  1. I'm sure I'm not the only who's thought that the Wild West Falls area would really benefit from a wooden roller coaster in it.
  2. They installed the netting after boats started flying off during testing. I'm sure it's already known by a few on here, but for those who don't the reason this happened is because the weight on the raft was not properly distributed. Three people per raft, no more than 550 pounds of people per raft, the kid (74 pounds) was on a raft with two others, one weighing 197 pounds, the other 275 pounds, he should have been seated between the people but instead was put in the front hence the raft becoming airborne and connecting with the netting and the metal loops that held it up.
  3. It does seem very familiar, but as said before I would have been very young at the time so I can't say with 100% certainty. Nice find @Jamberoo Fan!
  4. @Jamberoo Fan I recall some days or maybe a week ago there was an interview with a guy from Movie World saying 'we look forward to announce the ride' or something. So I just called it a pre-announcement announcement.
  5. Better contact Dreamworld too and tell them they have the longest roller coaster in Australia lol
  6. I think you can make a ride taller without moving supports by just changing the angle of the lift hill to be slightly steeper?
  7. File this under the pure drunken speculation folder but what if the announcement is 'delayed' (as some are assuming) and as perhaps evidenced by the pre-announcement announcement the other day because Movie World saw the ire and confusion that came out of having a 'hyper' coaster be a couple of feet short of 200 feet among die hard coaster fans and quickly got on the horn to Mack to see if they couldn't up it a few feet without impacting the location of the support foundations? We all remember the kerfuffle about Green Lantern's "record breaking" drop angle and all the back and forth with that, so maybe they're just trying to avoid potential embarrassment of announcing an 'under 200 foot hyper' to the press and public?
  8. *looks at terrifying CGI Blinky Bill* Yep, I guess I do have something against him.
  9. Blinky Bill is at Currumbin? I haven't been there since 1999, so I'm honestly not sure what it's like anymore lol.
  10. Could we maybe get a livestream set up to watch this grass? I need up to the second updates on #grasswatch2017 as the situation develops.
  11. Because they think people are fine with that kind of thing, minimal effort into design and originality. And maybe Joe public is tricked into thinking coasters like that are worth the time and money but until someone with a lot of money and a vision to back it up comes along to build a world class park filled to the brim with world class roller coasters, companies will keep doing the bare minimum to keep relevant in the public's eyes, or irrelevant in the eyes of coaster fans.
  12. I agree @Richard I think as ride technology advances we either have to expand what the definition of a roller coaster is, or forget about defining the differences at all. I'm sure there were a lot of purists out there back in the day who said "roller coasters can only be made of wood, I'm having none of this 'steel' business!"
  13. I guess I can understand the gravity argument, makes me wonder though, if a park made a slot car style ride that was powered throughout (i.e. not utilising gravity) but had it follow a track identical to a 'typical' coaster track, (lift hill, main drop, inversions, etc.) and presented it as a 'typical' coaster (minimal theming) would that blur the line enough for the people at the RCDB to consider this type of ride as a roller coaster?
  14. Sorry to resuscitate an ancient topic but it's exactly the topic I wanted to talk about and I didn't want to make a new one and invoke the ire of some of the residents here. Anyway, seems like most agreed that Tower of Terror is a roller coaster, as do I, but while I was making a list of all the coasters I've ever been on in a word document for my own bored amusement (and giving them a score out of five) I came upon one I do ostensibly consider a coster but for some reason isn't listed on RCDB as one. Journey to the Centre of the Earth at Tokyo DisneySea, wikipedia calls it a 'slotcar ride' which I get as that's it's technical designation, but you go over that drop at the top of the mountain and try telling me this isn't a roller coaster. I'm sure some would argue its design is akin to a ghost train/dark ride, but come on, it has multiple rises and falls and goes 70+km/h that's totally coaster territory. What say you Parkz folks?
  15. Creature Cruise was something I completely forgot about until you mentioned it, very weird attraction now that I think back on it, at the time it was just dull and underwhelming but in hindsight it didn't really fit with the park at all, felt like something you might find at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary or worse, not Dreamworld.
  16. Well in order to be the tallest attraction on the gold coast it'd have to be taller than the Tower of Terror/Giant Drop, I was just making reference to the hyperbole in that comment. I suppose if its 60m above ground and continues 60m below ground it would technically be a strata coaster?
  17. "will become the Gold Coast's tallest attraction" are we getting a strata coaster now? lol
  18. I'd say more to the east, like MickeyD said, basically where Tiger Island was. Why do you ask @Glubbo?
  19. The main reason I think it will Joker or villain themed (so maybe even Harley Quinn, though less likely imo) is because of the whole super villains unleashed thing they did for Doomsday, I think this coaster will be an extension of that. Though I do agree they have too many DC themed rides I hardly think that's going to stop them.
  20. I'm still betting on it being a Joker themed coaster, so I'm thinking a predominantly purple track with pink highlights and maybe yellow supports.
  21. @MickeyD Oh good, so I'm not going completely crazy! Thanks for the info, I was so sure it was Dreamworld, glad to get some confirmation. If it was 92/93 I'm surprised I even remember as I would have only been 4 or 5 years old, must have made an impression on me. I do recall it being after the Matterhorn too the more I think back, so in the area Tiger Island is now checks out too.
