  1. If they were to sell they wouldn’t sell to a developer for the land it sits on. No shit. Coast is not pulling a Sunway. But at the end of the day its land value is still a component of the park value. Add the additions to the park, especially in the last 5 years, and you’ve got a park that’s worth a lot more than what Macquarie/Ardent/Coast bought it for originally.
  2. Yes you know that Coast’s shareholders can wind up a company that’s solvent? Shareholders would get a pay day as well given how much Dreamworld would go for if sold. Brisbane Olympics are around the corner if you were a publicly listed company with an objective to make profit and look after your shareholders, you’d be a fool not to take advantage of the land prices that are surging across SEQ and sell at the right time. The level of capex investment that’s been made over the years has also added quite a bit to the park value. All of it points to a sale in the future. You don’t have to keep a business running for the sake of it
  3. That looks really nice. Yeah I thought they would flip the ride position. If it was kept in the same spot you’d be encroaching on shockwave. Will look really imposing to guests from Main Street (you’d see it in action from the car park and highway too probably) and will be nice to get a different view swinging towards tail spin. Thunderbolt’s land will probably go to whitewater world (as much as the nostalgia nerd in me would like dreamworld to rework the old station for another thunderbolt) Rocky Hollow is the next cab off the rank but I’d imagine ocean parade is the last thing they touch before Coast sells. Gold Coaster has only operated for about 25 years total and has still got a fair bit of life left. It’s a waste of time to replace the track as it’s not popular enough to justify that expense. It’ll go when the time is right to invest into that corner of the park
  4. Dreamworld social media team definitely read these forums, the jokes that have been made in the video give it away
  5. Those Zamperla restraints are genuinely awful for people above 6 foot tall or of a larger build though. They're designed for skinny short folks. I've been on a couple discoverys and being a taller person the restraint dug so far into my shoulders and could barely close properly, it destroyed the experience for me. Gimme this over Sledgehammer at Luna Park anyday. Intamin over the shoulder lap bars (that are also on Big Dipper and Goliath) are the greatest thing since sliced bread Having been on Beast a few times I have it on high authority that King Claw will have a better cycle too that doesn't stop right as it starts to get good. Doomsday was an ABC Rides baby brokered by Intamin. Claw has operated reliably for 20 years and both it and its successor is designed by Intamin themselves. Your point on Doomsday is dribble lol
  6. Surely you wouldn’t need to remove shockwave if you flip the ride position in the direction facing tail spin? At a brief glance on google maps you could fit it there and have plenty of clearance room with the Main Street shelter.
  7. Like you definitely could but then where do you put the house? Dreamworld is rezoning the land which the old house sat on and management today probably hasn't got any interest in hosting.
  8. Interesting to see the comparison between the nitty gritty details between Rivertown and Wizard of Oz land. Done by the same company, presumably on a similar budget across both companies. Movie World's approach with Kansas (jury is still out on the other parts of the land) looks plasticy and brand spanking new while the temple is already weathered and looks a lot better IMO
  9. Is this the first time they’ve changed the map for like 20 years? Giant drop looked pretty much the same on the map since I was a kid
  10. Yeah but not allowing guests to do their own seatbelt and making it another layer of the 69 layers of staff checks is world class didn’t you hear. Every other park known to man does it. World class theme parks have slow moving 2 hour lines as the standard.
  11. I’d say it was when the ride was repainted and given enhancements in 2014. That would make it 10 years since the last inspection but not sure if it was a ‘major inspection’, but given the nature of ride repaints I’d make an educated guess that the structure got a solid look.
  12. Thought so. Either that or the new vintage cars which we don’t have info on yet. I’d imagine this is just a new gyro swing model with 360 degree motion because Intamin hasn’t made that yet. Goliath is excellent with the new restraints and I’m glad it’s not the zamperla model because those restraints are garbage. Is fine but dreamworld needs more rides, not 1 for 1 trades. Imo I thought it would have been too short of a gap between 2 major capex projects (Rivertown/water ride) but the water ride will probably be the next cab off the rank in a few years.
  13. I’ll also throw in a Claw replacement/renovation into the mix (it is nearly 20 years old and markings have been seen around it) just as a thought - who is making the new vintage cars? Intamin has made Indy style EMV’s in the past, so the technology to make tracked rides like that exists within the company. I’m pretty sure we haven’t seen those vehicles yet (with all the attention going to jungle rush) and there’s been no information as to who is making the ride so it could be that. Is a bit early for another capex project me thinks. It’s pretty clear that a water ride of some sort will be the next cab off the rank though.
  14. On the contrary Hair raiser at LPS is less than half of giant drop’s height and is miles more intense than giant drop…
  15. Rule 0 of being a ceo and speaking positively about your company or having a dig at a competitor on Facebook - use a burner. Also biggest glass houses comment ever - movie world was a bees dick away from killing people once
  16. Coaster safety system functioning exactly as designed. Whoop de fucking do Nek minute a rollback on superman will be put on the news
  17. Old schwarzkopf jet star 2 the park used to have. The drop tower sits on its land these days. Some track pieces are still stored in BOH iirc
  18. They threw them in the skip bin a long time ago. Kept one for some reason though
  19. Gold coaster is a very simple ride mechanically. Dreamworld can run it for as long as they want it to until it is time for a replacement. It is also pretty forceless, which helps with track maintenance, so metal fatigue probably won't be an issue as it was with Arkham. The romance of a new Thunderbolt on Thunderbolt's site and Gold coaster's land instead being used for WWW expansion is very appealing to me. Given that bringing back old names (Rivertown) and characters (Kenny & Belinda) are the trend for the current management I think it would be a slam dunk.
  20. Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t zamperla the only choice for that project? Intamin I don’t think offers that kind of project, whereas Zamperla had their lsm conversion prototype (that’s now up and running in Canada) done up in time for Cedar Point to come knocking. I think the “too expensive” argument that while was relevant 10 years ago is a little bit out of date now. Mack is arguably in the same price range as B&M yet Village has bought 2 things from them (3 when you count scooby’s renovations). They have also dropped $50 million on Oz. If they want to they can get a dive coaster, Village has shown they’re happy to spend and considered getting a B&M dive (among other things) when making a call about replacing Arkham. I think you’ll find that the MO of BGH is pumping money into the parks through capex investment with the goal of flipping it off at maximum value, while day to day ops suffers. Coast is doing the exact same thing at Dreamworld, except the day to day part, because they have senior management who know what they are doing. Sea World has had the reputation of having rides shut without any immediate replacement for the last 10 years. I don’t think a lot changes on that front, Vikings will get its replacement eventually like how Corkscrew was indirectly replaced with Leviathan but I reckon movie world will get a major before them. I’d say the kids area is the next cab off the rank, that Nickelodeon contract surely is up for renewal soon. I’ve always maintained that Abyss is a good ride, they just picked the wrong restraints from the start. Would be much better with lap bars that are on other eurofighters.
  21. Rebel coaster has a little bit of airtime off the drop and before the curved drop into the loop. If you're not careful shit can fly out, I was hanging onto my wallet keys and phone for dear life. On the Disney example from my experience you're pretty much carrying loose articles with you on every ride. Have not been on Incredicoaster or Expedition Everest so don't know what that's like on those. On the corkscrew example I don't remember parks on the coast being strict on loose items back then compared to how it is now. Certainly don't remember hearing the "nothing in your pockets" lecture on anything barring Superman which is in the realm of the obvious. Though this is 10 years ago we're talking about, memory might be fuzzy.
