  1. fair enough Wyncenuros As someone who interviews regularly, it puzzles me why they would have asked you to continue to recite other ride/show scripts (thus showing your vast knowledge and ability to remember scripting) only then to say you are too qualified. Either the recruiter had no idea what she was doing, or there was some other reason why she didnt want to give you the job and that was her 'out'. You got offered the job the year that you wore jeans to an interview? Fair enough. Seems they have some bizarre people running recruitment over there.
  2. Spot on Randy. Own transport is key for a lot of casual positions, as you are generally on call for weekends and school holidays. Same goes for having limited availability. If they have 1 person who is readily available vs another that can only work days, you know who will get the job (providing interview/skills/personality are fairly like for like)
  3. how do they work exactly? why did you apply for a seasonal role if you were after an on-going position. Most of the guest services and f&b staff that are regulars, started as seasonal casuals and proved their wares. I also don't think they care enough about to other job to not give you position as you would have to give it up. If you are someone they wanted (i.e. you stood out, excelled in the interview etc) they would have given you the role in knowing that you would have done a good job and it probably would have led to ongoing employment.
  4. you can roll a s**t in diamonds and make it sparkly, but at the end of the day you still have a piece of s**t in your hand
  5. Let me get this straight, they gave you a script to learn, and because you learnt it and were good at remembering a script they said you were overqualified and ended your interview?? Just like that? Those exact words? Come on... There was certainly something else to the reason you didnt get the job. Regarding getting the job the following year, different recruiter? different mindframe? Maybe because you were "playing dumb" you came across more personable, maybe you were better presented the second time. Who knows.
  6. You'll generally find most companies are like that. If you left your job previously, it was obviously for a reason, you either were not committed (in business terms; you could have had a very viable personal reason for leaving) or you were moved on. The risk in re-hiring is you may have a change of mind again and then the company is back in the same spot again, needing to recruit. From having worked within Ardent, i know line managers cannot make decisions on re-hires, it is left up to HR/Snr Management and generally the answers are simply no. You should definitely get an email either way. The recruitment program they use automatically tracks and emails candidates. Have you recieved an email from them previously (i.e confirmation of interview times etc). If not, they could possibly have your email address wrong in the system. Also check your junk mail/spam folder incase your email program has dumped it.
  7. Congrats. Maybe u should run your own theme park website then... If I go to SW tomorrow my photos will be more up to date than yours. I Win!
  8. Don't know you personally Gary so I'm not talking specifically regarding you. I interview heaps of people as part of my job and the people with the most experience are often not the best candidates. They are set in their ways. It is also common that people without experience show a lot more desire & passion in interviews as they want a chance, and given what DW is looking for that may take precedence over experience. Again not saying you were not passionate, or didn't come across well in the interview, but I don't think you can simply label it a cost-cutting measure and a focus on junior recruitment for the reason u didn't get the role.
  9. LOL so we are taking away 2 of the current 4 maze locations, and at the same time adding more mazes?? 5 or 6 into 2 does not work...
  10. The news said we're likely to get one tomorrow afternoon. Strong winds too...
  11. in theory it sounds great. I guess only experience would show if it is worth that much money. The torchlight walk of the track would be of most interest to me, and if done well could be worth it, given ghost tours of brisbane charge upwards of $30 to walk around a cemetery.
  12. Well yes, technically it is, but for mine a coaster needs to at least have a change of direction at some point, a bend, a twist etc (not just a vertical ramp). That's just my opinion though. Buzzsaw would qualify loosely based on the fact it at least has the roll in it at the top. Dont get me wrong, i love TOT, one of my favourite rides, but i just wouldnt call it a coaster personally. they could, but that clearly just isnt going to happen...
  13. I wouldn't ever classify ToT as a coaster tbh...
  14. Better theming than Bermuda?? I doubt it. Bermuda was the only ride in Australia that even came close to Disney-like standards of ride theming (when it first opened-not in its final years)
  15. Penguin encounter isn't a ride Superman opened 8 years ago, hardly recent Green Lantern opened at the beginning of the school holidays in 2011 - mid december
  16. Fast track for nearly all mazes was less than 5mins from what I could see in the regular queue. Most times it was basically walk in
  17. Thanks for that, I do know what capex is, but agree on reflection in probably should have simply written 'expenditure' and left capex out of it
  18. Awesome, must have just missed them Really liked the way they did the film vault last year, hopefully a maze they further develop in the future with scenes from each franchise rather than just fencing and fog
  19. just a different version of Myers. I've seen both previously. Funnily enough i didnt see Freddy, Jason or the saw puppet last weekend
  20. Mike Myers & Leatherface were the only 'icons' I can remember seeing last week. The rest were all zombies etc. Didn't see the ringmaster walking around the park, but the other 2 were. Re: fast pass - if you have the $$$ get it. By 7pm last Saturday it was a 90min wait for Hillbilly Slasher 2 & walking dead, and about an hour for Evil Dead & darkness. If all u want to do is the mazes and u are there prior to entry u could definitely get them all done without it, but would pretty much be in queues the entire night. We got there at 5:45, We did evil dead, walking dead, 30min break for dinner, slasher 2 and that took us to 9:45pm
  21. There is an opening 'show' if u want to call it that for 5mins at 6pm 2 x Carnevil shows in HSD arena There is also another show (can't remember the name) in front of the big screen Programs on arrival tell u the times Rides (except Scooby) close at 9. Park closes 10:30
  22. You could also argue given the insane revenue MW would bring in from 8-10 nights of sold out Fright Nights they can easily justify a large capex expenditure on maze fit outs, whereas with DW being included on standard admission, there is no additional revenue source created, other than at initial launch when some people may visit the park due to the new attention - but most of those would have annual passes anyway so there is still no revenue growth
  23. If it was that terrible you wouldn't even go if you had a free pass. Instead of bagging out a family friendly concept without any rationale, how about you explain your opinion.
  24. i wouldnt say scared, certainly not by the dark/gruesome theme anyway or scare actors you get a visual on before they jump at you. Get a bit of a fright when someone unexpected jumps out though, as im sure most would. Similar to you i just like the atmosphere and seeing the effort and detail that goes into the mazes, that was all i was thinking of in Walking Dead given the scares were minimal, was "wow it would have taken some time to get all these cars in here and positioned right, and the campervan etc etc The IV drinks looked awesome, unfortunately didnt pick one up as they didnt look maze friendly in terms of chucking it a bag while you go in a maze
  25. Everyone will have a different opinion on that Providing you are in the park prior to 6 and focus purely on mazes to begin with, you will probably get on your first maze relatively fast, second with a moderate wait & then long waits for 3 & 4. I always head to the studio mazes first as you avoid the Main Street crowds that get held up bu the show intro and scare actors
