^ Yeah, it does seem odd. Maybe they got it at a discount after all of the trouble they've been through with the BSG coasters or perhaps their mechanics are there so often...?

I just hope they manage to cram in enough story or unique features to make it different from the other family coasters in the park.

Was down at USS again today and it was very wet. Whilst work on the dueling coasters has been very minimal, they are powering along with their Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster. It has added a lot of height since last week and is starting to resemble rides like Escape From Madagascar or Freedom Flyer. It would be great if the ride was like Arthur and the Invisibles, but so far there is no sign of a large show building.

Second Drop reports that the scaffolding around Battlestar Galactica has disappeared without any obvious changes. Possibly, the trains have been replaced.

Screamscape reports that, according to German website Coasters and More, the new coaster at USS will actually be a Zamperla one, themed to Puss in Boots, with a spiral lift hill.

Yeah, it struck me as weird considering the scaffolding went nowhere near the large BSG logos on the ground. I did notice lots of rust and repainted parts on the coaster track.

Dejiki reports on the first sign of the spiral lift-hill on the suspended family coaster.

Dejiki has updated his Universal Studios July edition, once again. Some of the news includes:

  • 'Puss in Boots' Giant Journey' is the official name of the new family coaster.
  • There will be a Puss in Boots show too.
  • Possible trim brakes have been added to the Battlestar Galactica coaster.
  • The BSG trains may have been modified.
  • The ultra lame Monsters Rock show will be ending soon, to be replaced by an "all-new" Sesame Street show.

Over on Second Drop, he's looking at other developments on Sentosa, including the cross-island cable-car and the development of a Kidzania and a family friendly entertainment centre.

According to Dejiki, the BSG coaster will reopen later this year. Some of the track has been painted bright blue where repairs have been carried out. The Puss in Boots coaster's track is complete and work is being done on show elements, possibly around its circular lift hill. The Puss in Boots show is apparently up and running.

It seems odd to me that after all this time they are reopening BSG in its original theme? I gather Singapore has extremely strict protocols surrounding Theme Park safety and some policies seem odd (ie taller people like myself having to sit toward the Centre of the car). I wonder if Government policy forced these coasters shut for longer than they would be in other countries? We will never know with no other ride like BSG elsewhere else. My guess is this is a major reason why

Im at least hopeful they will have new trains to hopefully make for a smoother ride. Don't get me wrong, battle star is a good coaster (cylon side). Human side was a bit meh to me. Shame because I was hoping for a good and great experience. Especially coming from such greatness as Universal. It wanted to be Dragon Challenge and it fell so short of that. Here's hoping for better when it returns. Regardless, BSG is the missing big thrill that Universal Singapore has sorely missed

The human side was (and is) intended to be the more sedate ride, intended for the lower thrillseeker who isn't game to ride Cylon. That was always the intention - to offer two different experiences to cater to a wider demographic.

It was further shat on by their desire to make them dueling, resulting in many boring transitional elements on Human just so that there are some 'near misses' between the two trains. They sacrificed the quality of Human in order to achieve the necessary dueling effect, and to allow Cylon to be the thrilling ride that it is.

Fact is - in my experience at both Singapore and Hong Kong - the majority of the asian market are more interested in photos with characters, and shows, and less interested in the big thrills. American operators knew this when they built HKDL and USS and so they pandered to the local market (HKDL nearly failed because they didn't offer the thrills the tourists were expecting) - it was however great fun to ride and re-ride revenge of the mummy in a park that should have had 2+ hour wait times across the board. I think Cylon would have been similar, had it been open.

The latest reports from USS. No news on the BSG coaster. The Puss in Boots one is almost done and the rest of the park is getting ready for its Halloween nights.

That 'Second Drop' blog is terrible! Their attempt to write witty captions is an all-out fail. Compare that to the actual witty captions on many Parkz updates

^Yeah, he's just a young un'. Dejiki is very polished and professional and Luke and the Temple of Fun is also very popular. I think the guy who runs LATTOF has been in China these last couple of months.

What made me cringe on the Second Drop blog was the guy's first experience of going on a big coaster - very tragic. If most Singaporeans are this afraid of a big coaster, no wonder it's just a five minute wait for BSG (when it's working).

I guess you gotta start somewhere.

I rode Cylon first, and loved it. I rode Human and felt sick from it. The second time I went to the park (12 months later) it had closed. I'm excited that they'll be open again before I next visit.

MickeyD - I believe the situation with heights and different seating positions was to do with clearances for the near misses. I'm 6ft and had no issue in any seat. I rode these rides fairly early in the day and they weren't duelling at that stage (not enough riders I guess)

After they closed the BSG coasters the first time they implemented that seating plan. I think anyone over 185cm had to sit in the front row or in the middle seats of the rest of the train. I'm not complaining if it increased the odds of getting a front row seat (which it did). BSG has got quite a bit of height to it, but it isn't as fast as Superman Escape, as they tend to brake a little before the apex.

It also sounds like the new paint scheme will highlight the parts of the ride where they go through the tunnels/mist.

More Sentosa news, rather than BSG.

Second Drop

Discusses a lot of the changes that have been taking place on Sentosa, including the ride at Madame Tussauds, which doesn't sound too reliable, as well as a bird and animal encounter at Palawan Beach.

Xiao Bao from Luke and the Temple of Fun has apparently seen the new ride vehicles for the Puss N Boots coaster - no photos yet - just this:

It is a suspended car consisting of 3 rows with room for 2 riders per row.
The exterior of the vehicle is brown and the inside is bright orange.
I am not sure if they have already started testing though.

There's also some descriptions of USS' preparations for their Christmas/holiday celebrations, which begin on Dec 1.
