  1. A bunch of vehicles in the area today. Spoke to a maintenance guy yesterday and he said that the turntables are getting looked at and having old parts replaced. Also the western town before the big climb in the mine shaft is being stripped back and will be redecorated and weathered.

  2. Say what you will about this game but it has succeeded (with me at least) in getting me to do what drs have been telling me to do for years... Get off my ass and do some exercise... Yesterday I had a day off and would normally sit down in from of the computer and game all day... Instead I ended up walking around a couple of suburbs for a couple hours hitting pokestops and gyms... 10km later finally got home... Add to this the daily 2km I am now walking... All equals 1kg lost since last Thursday evening... I just might be able to start experiencing some of the rides at the parkz again by the end of the year

  5. I think they went 'eco' with the construction of them too. Everyone who books this weekend gets a souvenir PC allen key and has to build the tent themselves.

  6. Here's a comparison for those saying it's too expensive: Thorpe Park, one of the only other places in the world that offer a Coaster Climb, is over $600 AUD. Looking at Disney, their backstage tour is just under $360 AUD, it's longer, but the groups aren't capped. Alternatively, you could go for a VIP guide, which comes in at $2400 AUD (minimum of six hours.) Then there's Universal Studios, their backstage tour is nearly $480 AUD. And to top it off, there's Dreamworld, where you add a one to the front of the Star Tours price and get $1295 per adult AUD. That's not to say Dreamworld's product is overpriced straight off the bat. Ultimately i'd say these products fall into one of two fields, backstage experiences or more exclusive escorted VIP experiences. Given the size of our parks, I think Star Tours strikes a nice balance between the two, because the reality is I just don't think you need someone walking you to Superman Escape for the 5th time in a row when ultimately a Fast Track wristband does the same thing. If it was Disneyland though, where the crowds are constantly insane and you'd be lucky to squeeze everything in on a good day, then there's some value I think.

  8. Well the news I got while sleepwalking last night was this: Coming soon - Batwank: Escape from Movie World - will blow your mind. Movie World is just the start, it's going to make a right at the exit of the carpark and head down the highway to Sea World with 19kms of ejector airtime hills that will send coaster enthusiasts into their bedroom for some alone time. It's being part funded by the light rail as it will also be part of the Gold Coast public transport system with VRTP ticket holders riding free. Oh no it was all a dream while riding the express bus to movie world, sigh.

  13. The idea works in theory. The cost however could be another thing. Do they pay actors to work the whole night and keep everyone up?

  15. It'd be even more hilarious if nothing in the park was open, and it was just an excuse to walk around the park at night. Is that a fountain in the middle there?

  16. Fair point. I'll take that on board. I was doing a little SLC research earlier, and the most recent Mitch Hawker poll I was able to find was for 2013 (has he done it since then?) - where I found 'favourite Vekoma SLC located anywhere' ranked one spot above Dreamworld's Cyclone, and TWENTY spots below MDMC. That is an outrage. A travesty. this must be rectified.

  18. I can certainly see the value in it, it's not something you would do every Visit or maybe ever more than once. Wasnt even aware DW had a comparable VIP experience.

  19. Thanks for asking, @reanimated35 I think it comes down to a whole experience for me, because that whole area is one of my favourite parts of the park and I think that just makes me enjoy the rollercoaster even more (who doesn't enjoy a desolate siren playing asylum area, I can sit on a bench there for literal hours). I am also a bit biased in the fact I've had the opportunity to wear some of that fun loving orange, and it can be a lot of fun. The rollercoaster itself, I'm a person that is completely more than happy to be tossed around a barrel roll and some loops at approx 85km/hour, and for me that's what I feel a perfect rollercoaster for myself is. In comparison to Super Dork Superman Escape, SE for me is literally hills. Slower than the motorway/highway and hills. Still a really, really good rollercoaster, and I know the public absolutely love it to bits and rightly so, but I think after the who-knows-how-many times I've been on it, just going fast for me personally doesn't cut it anymore, but I'm still up for a ride every now and then to get that nice endorphin rush feeling though.

  22. ^Yeah, but why not - its common practice in a park that when you have a unique experience limited to a few, that you charge for it to limit participation. I'm sure there's been many a parent go off their rocker when staff choosing the winner of the dance-off didn't pick their child for the honour. by doing this, we contribute to a good cause, and have a justifiable reason for why your child can't (it's already booked for today, sorry). I'm sure, if they didn't have any bookings for the day they'll still select some kids randomly for no charge to fill the parade, but this is a way to guarantee your child gets the experience - even if they're a shitty dancer.

  23. Please do... This is something I have hoped they would do for many years... Probably since they removed the old Studio Tours and then the Movie Magic stage... Noticed last night but only had a proper look this morning... Prince & Princess Make your child’s dream of being a Prince or Princess come true with our new Prince and Princess of the Parade. For a $30 donation to the Gold Coast Community Fund your child can become Prince or Princess of the daily Streets Star Parade at Warner Bros. Movie World. Your little Royal will be crowned to take their position on the parade throne before joining the Movie World characters and Super Heroes for our famous Star Parade, chauffeured in their very own golden limo. Proud parents can view their little prince or princess from our exclusive VIP parade viewing area. Your donation will go directly to helping Gold Coast families in need via the Gold Coast Community Fund. So they have decided to take something else that was free (won at dance party with Looney Tunes) and get people to pay for it... Sure the money is donated to a good cause in the local area but still...

  25. @AlexB I liked your chart. It made a lot of sense and that's why I said MW should use it. @Theme Park Girl I'm generous because I am excited with what you put on the table today. I have been annoying Richard for years to use his super powers to get us in. I am looking at dates right now but think I want to see SE too. Hopefully you do a trip report for us.

  26. That's ok @Wyncenuros I'm already book in one and I'll be doing it again once SE reopens just on the off chance it's BTS on that too. I'll let you know twice what you're missing

  27. These costumes aren't based on the films; they're based off of DC Comics new 52 Universe. While it may not be as detailed as the costumes found in the DC Film universe, it certainly looks impressively close to the source material.

  28. @skeetafly Superman Escape - happy now backseat moderator? Like the actual moderators have stated, they have a pretty good set-up for ranking coasters based on reviews, and the number one result is going to be pretty obvious anyway. Why don't you a have a go at the other non-serious replies while you're at it keyboard warrior? Ooops I fed a troll, no more from me.

  33. surely he didn't grow that much in the day... I wouldn't say a Tigers are main portion of the park, they are a supplementary attraction to the rides. And to say "dont go to DW if you are scared to tigers" is ridiculous. I love tigers so it wouldn't bother me (though they are hardly cuddly creatures..) but most guests wouldn't expect large tigers to be being walked by leash around the park. Being scared of an animal but comfortable knowing they are on the other side of a 10m moat or a glass window is very different to having one being walked close to you with no physical barrier. 99.9% of people are scared of tigers, your comfort with them is knowing there are barriers to stop them eating you... took this last year at DW in the Lair. So cute & cuddly til they get hungry...
