I would say the most iconic ride Australia has ever had was the Tower of Terror. It might of only had the world record because of a delay, but it is that it held that record is what is important. I think it is what put Australia on the map in terms of theme parks. DC Rivals might be too young to be called an icon, but it will definitely grow to become synonymous with the Australian theme park industry. I mean, one can argue it is already the star attraction.1 point

You know it's funny but there is a point to this. Like I listed Lethal Weapon deliberately, not Arkham, Corkscrew not Sea Viper. Rivals really doesn't have that same thing about it. I think it will be an icon given time (just the scale and impact off the highway), but it doesn't really hit the way it should. I'm sure people are constantly saying let's ride the Hyper Coaster (Which goes against marketing calling it HyperCoaster). Suicide Squad would not have been better, nor would Batman V Joker. Jist Joker might've worked though.1 point

I passionately disagree with the idea that 'does it make money' be the only factor in deciding if something is worth it or that 'It makes the place shit' is not a valid reason. Not only do I disagree with you, but the people who built the parks disagree with you (I've seen it first hand), and the management teams who actually give a shit disagree with you. Good news is the people who mismanaged Village Ardent and Wonderland all agree with you 100% EDIT: I'm not saying remote control boats are bad, and I know you're not advocating for them in the dumb places they were, but honestly the bin is a fine place for them and they don't need to be shoehorned in for a fairly inconsequential amount of loose change just because you have them.1 point

Probably because you could pick another body of water in the park where it looks less silly.1 point

I think once upon a time that all of our parks were filled with real, genuine Australian can-do spirit and put passion and pride into doing big ideas on shoe-string budgets (and showing up the big players in the process.) There's that story of Lassiter's Mine costing 3 million and Disney Imagineering folks saying it would've costed 20 million. There's another similar story about Gum Tree Gully at Dreamworld. And then I think about rides like Bermuda Triangle and how cool the Pepper's Ghost effect was even as an adult and how so much of that ride would still hold up today. Same goes for Police Academy. Genuinely funny, really good stunts, brass-ring winning show. Same goes for Steam Trains. Super unique and a part of Australian history. Same goes for the Batman Ride - beautiful themed set pieces, awesome embark/disembark procedure into the simulator pods, totally mind-blowing stuff for kids. Really unique ideas executed well that are over-achievers in their own right. What happened? I think OH&S plays a part in some ways for sure, but as @joz eloquently painted the picture above, somehow all of our parks got into this epic death of creativity through a thousand cuts and two decades on it shows. Every park has big, obvious SBNO crap somewhere. Facades that have no place in the "themed land" they exist in. Unkempt gardens. Lacklustre theming. Just yikes all round. Take me back to an era where creatives created, not execs.1 point

I would love to see Disney bring a cruise to Australia. Although in this current climate, cruises will need to build consumer confidence. It would be a good way to test the brand before maybe investing in an island resort.1 point

I definitely miss Gremlins and the original Bermuda Triangle from the Gold Coast parks, but here comes what may be an unpopular opinion, I really miss Bounty's Revenge from Wonderland. I remember being mesmerised by it as a kid and then finally being able to go on it when I got older. Any rides that took you upside down were crazy for me as a kid and I never understood why people would do that to themselves, then I did it and now I can't get enough of going upside down lol.1 point

The batman ride at movieworld will not be worth having today, time zone have simulators that are just as good if not better. @Levithian1 point

YOUR PARK UPDATE At Village Roadshow Theme Parks our number one priority remains the health and safety of our guests and team members. TEMPORARY CLOSURE UPDATE VRTP is continuing to follow Government updates regarding COVID-19 and at this stage Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World, Wet’n’Wild, Paradise Country and Topgolf will remain temporarily closed until at least 30 April. Australian Outback Spectacular is also temporarily closed and more information can be found here. Throughout the closure we have been engaging with our team members and will continue to support them during this period, including providing access to their accrued leave entitlements. VRTP is also allowing team members who have exhausted all of their leave entitlements during the stand down to go into ten-days negative leave. Since COVID-19 emerged, VRTP has worked closely with Government and leading experts to ensure that at all times it has adopted the highest level of health and safety practices and we are continuing to work actively with all levels of Government during this difficult time. Our dedicated teams will continue to care for the animals at Sea World, Paradise Country and Australian Outback Spectacular during the temporary closure. Village Roadshow Theme Parks will continuously review the situation and will take steps to ensure that once the threat of COVID-19 passes, it will continue to operate as the leading theme park business in Australia. SEA WORLD RESORT UPDATE Following the impact of COVID-19 including Government restrictions affecting interstate and international travel, dining and recreation facilities and the request for social distancing, the decision has been made to reduce operations at Sea World Resort. Sea World Resort will continue to operate however, we will monitor the situation and follow the advice and guidelines of the Government and the Queensland Hotels Association. WHEN WILL THE ATTRACTIONS RE-OPEN At this stage, we anticipate the Theme Parks, Australian Outback Spectacular and Topgolf to remain temporarily closed until at least 30 April. AOS have said at this stage shows will recommence on April 14. An update will be provided on March 31. I definitely don’t think shows will be starting up then. I’d expect in another couple months1 point

So why not just close for the time being. When half the park is closed, people won’t want to be paying full price anyways1 point

From the 18th all of H2O Zone is closed as well as mammoth falls Parts of Castaway Bay are closed And maintenances heavily extended at this point they should seriously just close. When I briefly visited yesterday you can tell that it is effecting the parks. @Adventures With JWorld you were there too so feel free to provide your thoughts on this. It was Friday, but I’ve been on that day before and they’ve been much busier. Queue wait times were very low and there was only one tourist group in the whole park. The rest seemed to be locals or inter-state guests I am surprised they haven’t decided to close for the rest of the month like Disney and Universal. If the big guys are doing it, even if they haven’t directly been impacted yet, then our parks should do too. Even if it is just for the 2 weeks.1 point

A wheel would have been perfect for where Vortex is going. It might not have suited that theme, but it works for that area. Hopefully they pull the Vortex off. And I would love to see a spinning coaster, which could be a perfect family attraction. Something likes Crush’s Coaster at Disney Studio Park Paris.1 point
