  1. Dreamworld recently filed a permit for a refurbishment of “Legoland”. Now this was only submitted last month and the refurbishment of the Lego store happened late last year I believe. So my question is what could this be? My guess based on pure speculation is that we could see at some stage ABC kids world or Dreamworks rethemed to Legoland. As much as I love dreamworks as someone who grew up with the IPs they are starting to date. Pure speculation on my behalf.

  2. Some of you guys have no idea at all how things work in the real world. You know who complains about noise en masse? residents who hear the noise. You know who doesn't? people at the theme park. Bit lop sided huh? It's not like they are getting applications from people to increase the noise limits to counter act the complaints. Council get flooded with complaints about noise, if they cause enough of a disturbance they act on it by imposing restrictions otherwise they are seen as ignoring the residents. Politicians of all kinds care about their careers and making it into local papers because residents feel they have been ignored doesn't register too high on their wish list. Doesn't matter if its a theme park, a race track, a pub, a concert venue. Doesn't even matter if the venue was there first. as urban sprawl encroaches on these places this is the sort of thing they have to put up with. It's driven more than a few places out of business over the years because they simply couldn't meet the requirements/limits imposed and remain a viable business. For reference, a quiet street is about 40dB. You can easily hear the chain dog disengage from DC rivals from studio village, be surprised how far noise of certain frequencies carry. It's all the other noise that goes with opening at night though. Things like music, lights, people screaming (as mentioned), plus vehicles coming and going. Hell, I bet they have even had complaints about the masses of smoke/fog/bubbles wafting out of the park following some events. I've been to fright nights when it was completely still, no wind at all. The smoke just kind of hung around and drowned out the car park and onto the high way. Didn't really clear away. You can be sure that rustled someone's jimmies.

  3. Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but it appears as though Movie World have changed their FB page so you can no longer leave reviews or see reviews? Ignorance is bliss I guess?

  4. ...and i'd say loud screams, crowd noise, show explosions, and other theme park associated sounds, at 8-9pm - a time when many kids are being put to sleep during school holidays (and when many working adults are starting to wind down) is far more likely to keep people from going to sleep in the first place, as opposed to simple crowd noise at 2-3am (which is also further away) when people are already asleep. Either way, it doesn't matter. We aren't las vegas. we don't have a history of opening late on the regular. Our parks should have longer trading hours (and this thread shows they're looking at small extensions to try easing the crowds) but dismissing the concerns of residents, who were there first, who are demonstrably closer to sources of noise than other recent examples of noise complaints in residential areas - shows that you're not basing your arguments in reality - instead working on the selfish basis that all these other reasons shouldn't matter because someone else has done what you want these guys to do. Our coasters use seatbelts. our parks don't trade late. Movie World's neighbours were there first and don't like loud noise 12+ weeks of the year.

  6. If one was to retheme ABC kids world into Lego there is a lot that could be done to bring life to this area of the park. Remove the Fun maze and the sad tiny Tea cups ride, the Rock N Tug and ferris wheel can be moved around as needed. BRC ride can be gutted, and you have the surrounding area of the TOT station and Billabong. Also could work MDMC into the theme. See Red outline could be an entire "lego land". Re theme MDMC as some sort of Lego racing coaster (Market as a family coaster). Put a new trackless Lego themed dark ride or (Vekoma Mad house in the old BRC ride building. (Might need to expand the building back. Then buy a few new flat rides, a large Tea cups (Or even the Mack Twist N Splash version) and a Zamperla Telecombat ride (Think Dumbo) and maybe a new kids drop tower think Loopy Light house or even a small kids coaster see spongebob. Bamn you have a great family / young kids area perfect for the families. Then reopen Billibong as some sort of Lego food outlet. Realistically all of that should cost no more than $20 million and you have given new life to that entire chunk of the park. With a very popular IP. See video for Vekoma Mad house themed to Lego.

  7. I really hope it’s for the abc kids area and they bring us a great family dark ride based around LEGO. Maybe a shooter ride like they have in Legoland. That entire area is so tired and old and needs to be completely demolished and started fresh. If needed they could potentially take the billabong restaurant as well and utilise that space. Dreamworks is still a great area and I don’t think it really needs any work done to it (unless the contract has come to an end)

  8. It’s not that VQ was not working, or that it was consumed. Have confirmed that it has been turned off during the holidays, bit dodgy considering it’s an advertised inclusion with tickets and One Shot was still available for purchase.

  9. Pretty standard business. It doesnt make sense to have negative reviews for your business on a page promoting your business. Plenty of independent review sites out there.

  10. Happens when people start complaining about their visits in the parks own posts/updates. They have previous form for doing the same, stopping people starting their own posts, then stopping people from commenting at all when the complaints overran everything.

  11. There's plenty of Google and Trip Advisor reviews to keep you all entertained if you want

  12. Clearly. Just look at the numbers. If they had fully recovered in the eye of the public they would have the same mental numbers of the other parks over Easter. They’ll get there (hopefully), will just take time.

  13. Go take a look at Wild West Falls. Nevermind - i've included a picture below - let's play spot the difference: See how Wild West has a giant wall built down the side of the drop? It shields residents from the screams of riders. Notice it's missing from the second pic? Thats Rio Bravo in Parque Warner - where no such residential issues exist. There is a big reason nothing else is built up that end of the park despite decades of people coming up with amazing concepts, and its also why they continue to develop and expand into the carpark. The residents were there before these rides were, and too much noise, or too many late nights, and the complaints go to council and the park has to deal with them. As for trees and tree heights - Up in Cleveland, channel 7 filmed a TV show called Holey Moley. The local council received noise complaints from residents who were (at their nearest) over 250m away through a dense forest of trees. The filming had a handful of family friends and rent-a-crowd numbering a couple of hundred, as opposed to the thousands of people who attend movie world night events. The closest house to Movie World's operations is under 150m (Stunt Driver's fireball finale), and the closest distance to rider screams (Wild West's drop) is 230m. It's just simply unworkable. Luna Park doesn't have to but only because of government support, court precedents and legislation. There was a time when the residents shut the park down. Come back and complain when Movie World is 100 years old, has been shut down and through court. Here's a tip for free - there's a lot of people here who have had these discussions a dozen times before. This site has been around for almost 20 years. You've been around for 5 minutes. Why don't you try listening to these guys who have worked in the industry over those two decades, instead of telling them (wrongly) why they must be wrong. Theres a lot of people being quite a lot more patient with you than they should be - but that patience is quickly running out.

  14. That reo seen in the images above was for a new pathway built alongside the current pathway under the GD. I’m assuming they old one will be closed off to allow for the refurbishment of the tower. I really do hope they use this time to fix the mess that this area of the park has become. With the shade sail over the MDMC now gone, it allows for a great vantage point for photos of the launch track from the GD exit. Unfortunately MDMC it’s scheduled to reopen next week when GD closes so anyone who wants to try get some good shots from this angle will have to wait until September.

  15. I’m currently at the Gold Coast for a family trip. We’ve only done two days at the parks and the crowds are insane. I’ve never seen Sea World so busy, but generally it coped quite well and I had a good day. Rides were seeing some wild times but they relaxed in the afternoon where we could get on Storm several times in a row. The park has the luxury of having a ton of people eaters, and the average punter seems to be more savvy about shows, etc. because there were clear masses of people going back and forth between the presentations. After watching reviews we opted out of Movie World and went to Dreamworld today. The family wasn’t too impressed with paying more for passes, but they had a great day. The car park was stacked, but the crowds weren’t wild. Every ride was basically a walk on including Steel Taipan. The only decent wait was Sky Voyager but being the only proper family ride on the Gold Coast, I can see why. Street Feast is nice but the food was slow. The kids, which range from toddlers to primary school, all had a blast as well which made the parents happy. Dreamworld really does have the luxury of size and with WWW in simple walking distance, it makes the crowds far more bearable. Talking to friends at the parks, those that have visited, and the occasional stranger in the elevator; Movie World and WNW are a mess. Everybody I know is saying to avoid those parks which is sad because they’re genuinely good theme parks with great rides, but nobody wants to put up with what is on offer. We will probably skip Movie World this trip, but my family now have season passes and they’re keen to come back on a weekend some time and hit it up when it’s quieter. I don’t envy those working at those parks at the moment, and I’m sorry for all of the crap that you’re having to put up with for decisions out of your control. The problems seem to go beyond just normal busy crowds, but without going I can’t comment much further then from what I’ve heard. Another quick note is that it seems that everywhere is lacking staff. Our hotel seems to be copping it a lot, and I’ve gone to several shops and cafes that are running ads for more staff or have notes seeking forgiveness for delays.

  16. I'd say the noise complaints at 8-9pm pale in comparison with noise complaints at 2-3-4am.
