Adventure World New Coaster - Abyss

It really is the most bold-faced and shining example that theres no sense trying to prove a point and reason with this retard. Is there anyway we can set up a bot to 'autoreply' to any post he makes with two words ("you're wrong) and just leave it at that? then no matter what he says, he always gets a response that says he's wrong without anyone else having to waste their time on it? Better yet - Just set the forums to auto-delete? I'm sure theres a few things we could do. On another note - did anyone notice it started out as 'obviously the launch event tent' and ended as an 'event style tent'? -
I thought the exact same thing... Although a few people made those suggestions, I think you're setting yourself up for failure with a name like that because (rightly or wrongly) comparisons will be made "that's not a rampage!" etc. I also think that VR haven't chosen it, regardless of any popularity in the name simply because it doesn't really fit - given the duality of the attraction - both relaxing and turbulent options, calling the entire attraction a 'rampage' doesn't paint the picture of a relaxing paddle in a gently flowing river... for both of those reasons, and i'm sure a few more I can't think of right now, it was right for them not to include that option as a finalist. Didn't Jamberoo have something called boomerang bay? Or was that Billabong Beach? All this aliteration (?) is doing my head in. I think the winner has to be The Lagoon... or perhaps that could be tacked onto by calling it 'the lagoon + rapids' or something?

Well for starters it's indoors, and supposedly will have an immersive theme based on a miniature version of the entire park... as opposed to the two you refer to which are not. -

I think the trouble with Hallowe'en at Sea World is there are many locations where people under cover of darkness could cause mischief. The park is so strung out it is hard to have security keep a close watch on everything, and you risk things like contaminations to animal enclosures, people going swimming in the exhibits, and losing small penguins to the gold coast canals... They would need to contain any such event to midway coaster-zone... and thats still a big area to rope off - laneway between castle storm, ray reef, and the two pathways around ray reef... Nope. Our sea world is not suited to these type of events. -

Who is Boone, and why is he different to everyone else who rides men in black. The thing you've got to take a look at is that Universal usually runs with long-running franchises that hold popularity long after the movie is out of the silver screen - they only just retired Jaws 2-3 years ago, and that was easily a 25+ year run. ET stood the test for a long time until it was replaced, as was Backdraft. In most cases, the hardware stays the same and the theme is changed, ala Back to the Future into The Simpsons in Hollywood. Universal seem to have a canny knack for replacing an attraction when the time is right. Disney doesn't need to do this as much as many Disneyland attractions never held a linked theme - such as the submarine voyage - until a suitable franchise came along. Peter Pan is more than a movie, its a book and something of folklore thats been around forever - of course it continues to have currency today. I forsee Universal will keep MIB around in Orlando until they're sure Will Smith doesn't need another Ferrari (decides not to make another MIB movie). As for attractions like Revenge of the Mummy, considering Orlando, Hollywood and Singapore all have slight variations on this immersive and amazing attraction (each of which improved on it's predecessor) I don't see that franchise leaving anytime soon. Even without the movies to back it up, it's still a solid concept that lends itself to an entire themed land in singapore. Having not been to Orlando, I can't speak from experience, but from what most others say - your opinion sounds like the odd one out. I'm not saying you aren't entitled to it, it's just at odds with others I've heard from is all. I guess my main point is that if an attraction is done well, and if it doesn't ABSOLUTELY hinge off the film in order to make it relevant, if it can stand on it's own as a solid attraction, then it doesn't matter if the film is 10 years old or 30. Memphis Belle was released in 1990, and was still very appropriate, and perfectly suited to the special effects stage at Movie World for the next 15 years, as a classic movie of the time. Lethal Weapon the same as the foley effects section of the same show - especially after tying in with the coaster. ( The irony that the superman special effects show (along with the other two) was removed in time to install a coaster themed to the same character - around the same time as a new film of that character was due for release is also an interesting side-track. ) -

Just on that picture - but it'd be interesting if the show building was still a hollowed out shell, if they considered using it for a scare-maze for hallowe'en... or even a walk-through scare maze such as the Evilution. I know it's in WB kids, and so not necessarily appropriate to the area, but surely they could adapt work around that? Unlikely, and probably impossible, but i'd like to see what they could come up with if they tried... -
Well they're adding to an existing venue, which is cheaper than trying to build a new attraction out of the ground - people already know it's there and they're just adding to the things you can already do there. The outback splash isn't something that would attract people to the park far and wide if that is all that is there - imagine building that, and only that on a vacant block, even if it were positioned near a major arterial interchange? Just wouldn't bring in the numbers, which would mean the money would dry up before they could build the rest of it. Aussie World is a good example - what started out with very basic attractions, mini golf, ettamogah pub and a small collection of shops is slowly revamping and reinventing itself as a bigger destination - adding in more permanent and thrilling attractions as it grows. If Aussie world opened today with nothing but the funnel web (or is it redback?), they wouldn't pull in enough visitors for future expansion. The 'shadowed' layout of the future waterpark expansion looks like a well thought out concept - i hope they progress to building it.

Whoa - wait, what? YOU want a thread back on topic, so suddenly WE should all just shut up and let you take the helm? To bad sunshine - if you can dish it out, you'll bloody well take it as well because you've shitted the rest of us on these boards for long enough. You love to shoot your mouth off, but you can't hack it when you get caught out by people who are smarter than you. Just looking at the others who replied celebrating you having nothing to say is proof that everyone here is tired of your shit. Fine, whatever, you love trolling because between church and being a lollipop lady you have too much spare time on your hands that you've got to find something else to do to amuse yourself. You'd earn a lot more appreciation and respect on these boards if you did one thing... You frequently shoot your mouth off, and occasionally you're correct, occasionally theres insufficient proof one way or another, and occasionally you're bold-facedly, flat-out wrong. If you'd just admit when you were wrong, rather than trying to offer up excuses on why you thought it was different (Mack, LPM Scenic Railway anyone?), you'd earn a lot more respect from people. Hell - The scooby fire eyes discussion is infamous on these boards to anyone thats been around long enough - and one of the people involved in that debate (who was wrong) freely admitted it. Although rarely seen these days, they're a community leader... so theres a lot to be said about a person who can admit when they got something wrong. Quite frankly I don't give a shit either way, but while you may be concerned about bringing this topic back on topic, i'm more concerned about helping you prevent yourself from taking EVERY topic OFF topic. Now just admit you got it wrong and shut up - or piss off and let everyone else get on with a meaningful discussion. -

One thing to remember about the big 'themed' parks is that if they have more than one site, it does reduce costings. Where new technology is developed by Disney for example, the initial attraction costs blow out to the extreme, however when you weigh it up across 4 or 5 parks, suddenly the development of new proprietary technology suddenly doesn't seem too expensive. I take your point about a 'different' experience to the other parks in the world under the same banner - what they need to do is use similar technology (same ride system), but give it a different STORY... especially when it comes to Disney and Universal, the story is more than half the ride - so a different story with the same ride system would still bring all the tourists to our yard.... -

All the responses you get are good... you just don't like them because they don't agree with your view of the world. You stated "WB used the park alot for marketing of it's major film productions(including the DC ones, SE was timed to open around the release of Superman Returns)" I responded by saying "There was also very little promotion of the film 'Superman Returns', and TBH, I don't see anything that suggests the theming of the attraction was anything to do with the release of the film six months later." Joz then says 'it's waaay more likely that Superman Escape was capitalizing on the upcoming movie rather than being an early promotion for it." And in your most recent post, you then try to make out like your point was actually that the park capitalised on the movie, rather than the movie studio using the park to capitalise on it's film releases. It's all there in black and white buddy - i'm sorry but you can't reverse your opinion now... Your statement that WB used the park alot for marketing of it's films is blatantly incorrect, and it is far more likely to be (as Joz has said) the other way around . -

I thought the french invented the cafe? What sort of things could you buy at an indigenous cafe that would make it any different from the other cafe type outlets in dreamworld? -
It looks like I may have had some poor views of Mr Khan. As mentioned in the other thread (now closed) - Sydney's Wonderland website is up and running at www.sydneyswonderland.com.au Although some of the original (poor) renderings and artist's impressions are still present on the site, there are far more (read: better) renderings also. Some information is starting to look more like there is actually a plan for this that will work. There really isn't any more substance to the website other than some slightly better drawings of some pictures, and most of the information on the site are more flowery words, not facts, statistics or other 'potential investor' type information... so it is still lacking to some degree... However... a company has been registered with ASIC (www.asic.gov.au) called Western Sydney Theme Park Pty Ltd. The business name 'Sydney's Wonderland' has also been registered, and an ABN for the company also obtained at the australian business register http://abr.business.gov.au/Search.aspx?SearchText=51%20158%20135%20490 While you can get an ABN for just about anything and anyone, an ACN (Pty Ltd) and the business name aren't free registrations. The compliance requirements for a P/L company are also costly... so at least for now it's probably got SOME sort of commercial merit.

But that's just it - you haven't given the overseas visitors anything to visit for as you've just copied whats already in several parks the world over. Sure they could do overlays rethemes, or theme things to a slightly different concept (such as HKDL's haunted mansion equivalent) but you're going to try and do all this on a budget that simply doesn't allow for it. When we get a new coaster in Australia - the parks can spent up to about $15million dollars. Proposals by companies to build new parks from the ground up have started with modest $60million to a couple of hundred million... for. a. whole. park. Some of the more outlandish attractions made by disney, hit the hundred million mark and more... just for ONE RIDE. Disney has learned the lesson, several times, many of them painful... the simple fact is that the one version of their product that doesn't sell well is 'disney lite'. The whole reason why disney is so well regarded, so popular, and so frequently cited as being THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH is because the one thing they simply DO NOT DO - is anything 'on the cheap'. The few times they've tried *cough-eisner-cough* have been disasters, many of which cost them a heap financially. California Adventure was a perfect example of why you can't 'cheap out' and stick the brand on it, and expect people to come. They had to throw most of the park out, and rebuild it from the ground up, costing many times that of the original park to build. I know this is daydreaming, wishful thinking and brain storming, but much as i'd like to see Disney hit our shores, unrealistic suggestions like 'bringing just the best bits' don't work - because the best bits are the ones that will cost a couple billion dollars, which just won't happen. On the other hand - Zacsta has a more realistic idea - Universal is one company I could see coming to our shores... they are far more likely than Disney, at any rate. -

Village Roadshow is still a large player in the Australian movie industry. They are one of the best venues for a movie premiere in Australia, regardless of studio involvements. Any production company can book the sound stages, water tank and other filming locations in the area, using the production facilities on site as well. According to the 2006 annual report of Village Roadshow, they completed the acquisition of the theme park division by buying out time warner at the beginning of the 2006 financial year (July 2005). Superman Escape opened in December 2005, and Superman Returns opened in USA cinemas in June 2006. Interestingly, the 2008 Australian premiere of the Warner Bros film Get Smart, starring Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaway was held in the Roxy Theatre at movie world also. The 2008 Universal Fox film 'Nim's Island' also premiered at the Roxy. Warner Bros. Pictures also premiered Fool's Gold at the Roxy in 2008. In other words, your claim that the use of the park for the promotion of films (particularly from the WB stable) was ended 'unceremoniously' when they ceased to own a share in the park is quite simply incorrect. There was also very little promotion of the film 'Superman Returns', and TBH, I don't see anything that suggests the theming of the attraction was anything to do with the release of the film six months later. I would appreciate if you would include facts and evidence in any further rebuttal, rather than generalised broad statements. -
Well thats certainly good timing and good investment strategy - there would be those who would stay the night to do WnW. Is the drive-in still operating? - Go for a swim during the day, camp out in the car for a movie at night, and then crash at the hotel... It's a shame they aren't doing dive-in movies... western sydney nights tend to be quite warm in the summer season - the heat of the nepean valley doesn't dissipate as it's below the plateau, so it'd be quite warm enough to do it. I guess if they close the drive-ins they can always move one of the projectors over... all they'd need is a screen...

a few commented above that they had, and i have also. very minimal though - I haven't seen a lot like i'd expected from previous years. Most of the advertising i've seen has been 'tack on' ads to the VIP pass, or rather - VIP pass ads 'themed' to FN and WC.

You're right Jobe - I will. This is just personal opinion, but i'd disagree that a Theme Park is a sub-genre of an amusement park. Disneyland is commonly hailed as being the first 'theme park' - however most of the inspiration for this park came from Knott's and Tivoli Gardens (mostly Tivoli). Take a look at Tivoli and Disney and you'll quickly see an extreme difference between them and LPM. I have never viewed LPM or LPS as a 'theme park' - only an 'amusement park'. To say a theme park is a sub-class of an amusement park is like saying the space shuttle is a sub-class of an aeroplane. A theme park usually has more than one themed land, with pains and efforts taken to make EVERYTHING fit in to that theme. Right down to the garbage bins in Disneyland, you can usually tell what land you're in. The shops, food outlets, rides, sometimes even down to the pavement is changed to fit in to that theme. Although it was changed over time, Wonderland started with Cobbles in Old Botany Bay International village. Comical paving took over in Hanna Barbera, whereas goldrush had plain black asphalt (dirt tracks are too hard to maintain). Dreamworld is often criticised for installing rides into areas where they don't belong. Ocean Parade was born out of the installation of rides such as Wipeout and Cyclone, but gradually they've struggled to maintain the theme when they installed rides like the Claw (a tenuous link at best) before finally destroying it with V8Redline. (There is a very in depth conversation on these boards that occurred when Redline was being launched about the lack of link to the existing theme). Dreamworld now regularly refers to this section of the park as 'Adrenalin Alley' - therefore technically still maintaining a 'theme' of sorts. So - numerous other people have already said it - but let me try to be as blunt as possible so that you finally understand. NEITHER LUNA PARK SYDNEY, NOR LUNA PARK MELBOURNE ARE THEME PARKS. THEY ARE JUST AMUSEMENT PARKS WITH A LONG-LIVED HISTORY. If it weren't for heritage listings, some of the structures and rides still in operation today, wouldn't be... simple as that.

Having been through two disney parks with a person with a mobility impairment, the discussion within my family has been quite interesting. On the one hand, we feel that the lengths Disney goes to to ensure that everyone can ride, and do so as quickly as possible is amazing, and to be commended. At the same time it is hard for them to control the system to prevent abuse. We saw many people utilising the mobility wheelchair gates who weren't. Now before I get flamed - i'm not talking about 'invisible' or 'mental' disabilities. As the article mentions, I understand issues like autistic guests who can't wait in line. The proposed system which is similar to fastpass is a good one for some high popularity attractions. GAP (or Guest Assistance Passes) have different categories, from 'can wait in line' to 'load immediately' (note: not the actual words written on the pass, just it's meaning). These passes can be obtained by approaching town hall, and telling them you need one. no evidence is required or requested, and i think this is where they've gotten themselves into trouble - they've been TOO sensitive to the needs of the differently abled. During our time in Disneyland, we were able to knock most of the fantasyland rides on the head one after another because the wheelchair entry was a walk-on. Obviously they cater to those needs, but they are rarely used. It's the big ones like Space and Big Thunder that really need better control. Personally, I think the biggest problem with the system is a mobility impaired or otherwise disabled guest can take up to 8 people along with them. I think if those numbers were curtailed - say the wheelchair and one mindercarer, the system would be a lot fairer, and it would also eliminate this problem they seem to have with 'disabled tourguides'. If there is more than one (or maybe two) persons with them, then they should approach a cast member, and obtain a ticket of some time either to return as one party and be 'backdoored', or the remainder of their party should queue as normal, and advise the cast member when they reach the front that they have a wheelchair (or similar) outside. Even space mountain (which has it's own 'disabled' train which can seat 16) shouldn't allow a party of 8 to come on as part of the disability queue. In the same time that one disabled person and 8 friends can ride, they could put through say 4 wheelchairs with minder - which would also make the disabled queue move faster too. In the case of those who physically can't wait (in line or outside the queuehouse) then it should just be the 'fastpass' type system... either way i'm not sure their current proposal is the best solution.

Well they should just count each individual spot on a raft - so they can add 4 new attractions by purchasing a new cloverleaf...
