Regular minor versus occasional major attractions

That and there was recession during that time. Longhurst got out at the absolute perfect time. -
Buzz Saw Harness Does Exactly What It's Supposed to Do
Slick replied to themeparkdude's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The title irks me and gives me a "clickbait" kinda vibe. I'd hate for people who don't have a great understanding on how rides work to read a title like that and immediately jump to a conclusion like "that ride is unsafe" or "Dreamworld don't maintain their rides" especially when neither of which is the case. If anything, and this is speculative, but judging by the downtime something totally unforeseen by the manufacturer has occurred and the redundant failsafe worked exactly as designed. -
Regular minor versus occasional major attractions

Not to nitpick per-say but your perspective on additions is awfully subjective and leaves out some massive new experiences that Movie World has like Fright Nights, White Christmas and Carnivale, which, in their own right, are incredible seasonal additions to the park. To spin a similar bias, one might say from a thrillseeker perspective that both parks really have been quite equal in major NEW additions in recent times, with both parks adding both a coaster and a flat-ride to their line-ups (TailSpin and Buzzsaw & Green Lantern and Batwing.) That's just a thrillseeker's perspective though, and totally disregarding all the additional experiences that parks add that actually make a day great (and don't forget, everyone here always complains when the parks don't have actors out interacting with guests). -
What rides have you gotten stuck on, or have seen broken down?
Slick replied to Jacko's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The section that you face before you launch are all earth magnets - the very same that are underneath the carriage. When there's an e-stop, they essentially "bog" the pod in its place. This is in contrast to the white blocks down the track, which are essentially insulated electromagnets that switch polarity at high-speed to push/pull the pod down the end of the track. -

Ditto that thought. I always felt like that last little twist before you exit the disco room was like everything nearly all linked up between the custom and standard parts of the layout and they just sort of made it work in the same way you would in RollerCoaster Tycoon by clicking that auto-connect button (don't lie, we've all been there.) -

If there's one ride i've been stuck on the most it's the original Tower of Terror. Mainly just something causing the computers to trip for whatever reason which usually meant either racing into the e-brake section at full speed or slowly dawdling down the track at a few k's an hour. This was nearly a decade ago now, back during a time when I was there a lot (i'll say too much but whatever) and as a result would ride more rides and inevitably experience something like an e-stop. Will never forget my first time I e-stopped on that ride though. It was a quick moment of "...the hell? We were supposed to stop right about no..." transformmed into "HOLY CRPJLKFSD ..... well that was intense" - going from 150 clicks to nothing in the space of two dozen metres is a crazy amount of unexpected g-force. One ride i'd hate to get stuck on though would be Buzzsaw. Something about reclined seats, just a lap-bar, that height and no immediate catwalk still makes me faintly nervous. -

Definitely was a Pirates show back in the early 90's for a season. I have a photo on one of my old archive drives. Not enough detail to tell where it was though. At a guess I think it was out just next to Avalanche? -

My bad, thought it was this one at first glance off my iPhone. I'm sure you've read my thoughts about the ride, but in case you haven't - tremendous job. I know a lot of us have spoken about having a park pick up a Eurofighter for years, never did I think for a million years it would've been Adventure World, and given the quality of the whole setup I stand by my words in saying that you've really put yourselves on the map as a must see destination that rivals the east coast parks. Really big kudos. -

Was at the park today. This is what guests can see. -
The "anti-Tiger Island/Sea World/Australia Zoo/Zoos in general" club really irk me and shows just how powerful a film can be, irrespective of how misleading it is. Moreso, it's actually quite scary to think how many people these days will happily take everything they see and read as fact and don't do their own research. We're stuck in a world where people have the entirety of human history & knowledge in our pockets but instead choose to use our smartphones to look at cute cat pictures.

It's an incredible new website to be sure - it's responsive from the ground up so it's going to look sweet on practically any device. If you find any bugs, be sure to let the park know and post them below. I'm sure they'd appreciate a keen enthusiast's eye to go over the website and spot anything missing before the masses find it. -
To hijack a thread a little, with 500px's new groups & discussions features, i've created a group for theme park enthusiasts to share photos as there wasn't one at all on 500px yet. https://500px.com/groups/theme-parks-thrill-rides-roller-coasters/ For those of us who are 500px members, i'd love to see your work on there and for us all to create an awesome collection of work. It's a little bit niche but a very sweet little website if you want to show off your work.

Not really. Statistically speaking, Disney has a very low average injury rate per ten million, much lower then most parks but appears much higher given they have more guests visit their parks then any other chain in the world. It's alot like Apple, actually. They sell a crazy amount of the same phone models, and despite their failure rate being the lowest in the industry, it appears higher because a) the sheer volume of units out there in the world makes it seem as though the failure rate is somehow higher and b ) the media love a great story about big brands - it's easy clickbait.

Start of sarcasm Having absolutely no experience with mounting equipment to rides i'd say go for gold, in fact, go handheld - it usually yields better shots after the fact. End of sarcasm Don't do it buddy. If I were you, watch the decent quality ones Robb Alvey and others including myself put out that are professionally and safely mounted and are under direct approval and supervision of the parks. I can't express the safety component enough. Not only that, but doing stuff like breaking the rules and sneaking gear onto rides makes all enthusiasts look bad. Most important of all though, while you think your footage will end up looking like this: I guarantee it'll end up looking like this:

Luna Park Sydney - the future with Wet'n'Wild
Slick replied to JulieLovis's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Sounds to me that what they can do and what's the right thing to do are two different things irrespective of law. Always better to play nice and get along then to have a thorn always in your side, especially when it comes time for them to build new future attractions. -
Cyclone needs a minimum amount of weight onboard to safely complete a cycle, hence the water dummies - they're there so they can cycle and check off the ride before they open for the day. The key word in all of this is "safely" - i'm sure Cyclone can easily complete a cycle a hundred times over with an empty train just like I could ride Cyclone a hundred times without the seatbelt plugged in and come back unscathed - clearly there's an operational call made that it's better to be safe then sorry and prevent potentially having something like a train stall and having the ride out of action for an unspecified amount of time while they complete the arduous task of bringing the train back to the station.

....OR maybe the production company paid for the hero characters in the TVC and then they chose to tap into their vast social resources to find people who are happy to stand around in the back of a few shots for a few hours so they can get free entry? (Which is actually what Village do too, might I add.)

My bad. Fixed now. I noticed that too. Definitely ups the atmosphere of that room. Good work to whoever made that happen.
