Has Coast Entertainment given up on Whitewater world?

Visited WWW yesterday for the first time since 2010! Wow where has the time gone?

I think it was definitely a wise choice to focus on DW first, it was in a much worse state and WWW although its not perfect its still ‘good enough’ to put on the back burner while they focused on the main park.

The Green Room is still the superior slide imo and I enjoy it more than Tornado at WnW. The rip really struggles to keep a moving line and you get the feeling it really needs triple vortex firing to keep it from being blown out. Temple of Huey tower is still great with something for everyone. The bro is still awesome, and being a bit heavier I get some serious speed on him, always fun.  Fully 6 was a little disappointing, if only the tubes were a little faster. 2 and 3 look fun, and it leaves a sour taste knowing they will probably never reopen.

Another chill people mover like a family tube ride like mammoth falls and a lazy river would be the first investments I would be looking at for new attractions. They really need to remove Wedgie, being a slide that aesthetically trumps everything thats open and is permanently closed is just a bit of a let down. A bar closer to cave of waves would be a really good move, bit more like the WnW set up. A facelift on cave of waves to improve theming would also be awesome. Looks cheap and dated up close.

Finally returning the back gate near gold coaster for easy park hop would be awesome. Considering their main marketing for WWW is two worlds in one day it makes little sense to make guests exit DW to enter WWW. This would be great if they ever decide to return ocean parade to its former glory and have a nice transition from that into WWW.

The closing of the thoroughfare between the parks has been mentioned before. (and we all agree, it sucks) The gate was original located in the Flowrider shop which made sense, because the staff of the shop would let you through.    DW have since created a dead area at the back of the park, which have created challenges with accessing WWW from DW.

DW had a staff member on a gate to check passes.

DW removed staff member and DW & WWW became one park.

DW went back to staffing the gate.

DW locked the gate.

If the arcade was moved to the thoroughfare location, where guest from DW & WWW could utilise the arcade and the staff of the arcade, could control the movement between the parks, this might work.

I definitely agree being able to access WWW from DW would be a smart decision, particularly when they offering deals like they currently have where it’s $99 for a one day ticket to access DW, WWW and SkyPoint. Being able to set yourself up in WWW for the day, then pop in and out of DW as you wish would be perfect. It could even just be during school holidays if there isn’t as much of demand in general weekends.

That store was a great way around having to staff someone at the gate to the right of the former Flowrider. I believe that store was utilised by the temporary Trolls attraction and is now just used as storage. As we all know, the back of Ocean Parade is a bit of a mess and needs a lot of love to bring it back to life. When that time comes, I definitely think they need to look at a way to open the access between the parks once again, while being able to also close it off during WWWs off season.

Greg young was just interviewed on Danes Theme Park Life once again, they are wanting a non thrill ride for White water world, good podcast, imo sounding like the lazy river as he mentioned through put etc

Sounds like WWW is going to end up with less attractions then it currently has.  Time will tell.

If they go with a lazy river, that increases capacity immensely. They've already got 4 of their slides SBNO for entire seasons, so anything to increase capacity would be great.

The best thing is something like a lazy river is going to be quite disruptive to park overall, but as they're seasonally closed, they can build freely without needing to work around guest accessible areas.

I don’t think we’ll see anything for the next season, but I have my hopes for the 26/27 season. What I do hope for next season is they get ride of the Wedgie; it’s been officially closed for a couple seasons now and is becoming an unnecessary eye sore.

I think we will see the Triple Vortex and the Fully 6 speed slides return, but that all comes down to how long the legal hearings take. But honestly, I wouldn’t mind if they removed Triple Vortex because it’s got nothing special going for it and takes up space. Having now ridden the Tsunami at Adventure Park Geelong, WWW picked a poor slide model.

Greg talked about DW had to take it's medicine and now it's WWW turn.  It will be interesting what WWW end up turfing out.

What I believe should be on WWW to do list.

1. Cave of Waves theming requires a face-lift.

2. Wedgie taken to the tip.

3. Provide a map for guest.

4. Provide a stand alone web page.

5. Re-install DW gate.

6. Arcade shared with DW.

7. New precinct incorporating a lazy river with new slides feeding into the lazy river.   (swim up bar for the adults😉)

I'm not sure we want kids in wet swimmers playing with electronic games - but even if that was ok, I don't really want to sit down in a wet seat for a car race either. Arcades do not belong in waterparks.

It's a dry park. Splash pad play isn't the core activity for the area so dealing with a handful of parents with toddlers in swimmers and asking them to change is a lot different to having literally every person in the park soaking wet.

I've visited plenty of water parks and can't say arcades have featured highly in any of them.

I’m in agreeable with @DaptoFunlandGuy there’s no need for a water park to have an arcade. Also it’s not like DWs arcade is directly backing onto WWW, there’s Tailspin, Gold Coaster and the former Trolls area in between.

@New display name why do you think they need one or should have access to DWs?

People are paddling up the wrong creek if they believe children will be fried because they are wet, or people will be entering the arcade dripping wet. The arcade is not at the end of a water slide.   As long as DW has had an arcade, DW have had rides that soak you and an internal water park.  Also, when there was a gate between the park, people could enter DW in their swimmers and enter the arcade.

The current arcade is accurately currently, 90% skill testers.   Somebody being damp shooting hoops or playing air hocky isn’t an accident waiting to happen.

Having a shared arcade accomplishes 2 things.

1.        The arcade creates a gateway between the parks which require no extra staff to man because the people staffing the arcade can manage the movement of guest between the parks.

2.        Having a shared arcade means if you have you have 1000 guest in WWW you have 1000 chances, somebody wants to pay to shoot hoops that you didn’t have before.  And the kicker is, your not paying for extra staff, for WWW to generate more 💰.

WWW strongest plus it had over WnW was the ability to travel between the parks with ease.

DW has killed this off and I’m spitballing ideas to get the gate open.

If somebody has a better way for DW to become accessible to WWW with ease.  Speak up.  I would love to hear them.

to be clear, I'm not necessarily suggesting someone will get fried from playing an electronic game while wet. My thoughts are more towards the longevity of the machines as control surfaces corrode quicker from exposure to chlorinated water.

I think the idea - to utilise existing staff to man the gate between the parks - is a good one. But do you put the gate on the WWW side or the DW side? Staff would have to be present at the gate - so what if a machine has a fault that has to be checked by the arcade staff? are people likely to wait at the gate to be let in happily, angrily, or start jumping the fence if noone is there? Does the gate at whichever end you have it prevent the other park guests from visiting the arcade without buzzing in (which would be a pain not worth it - passing up sales if staff aren't at the gate)

I think they'd do well to have a dockside style food outlet there - and food counter staff are more likely to be at their register and able to buzz people through than arcade staff (or you can have the gate in the middle with counter service, register and seating on both sides). Plus it gives WWW another food outlet in peak times - because off peak it's closed anyway. Stick some nice brews on tap and you've got a similar opportunity to the bar WnW had next to the wave pool... and you're more likely to make some extra coin off people at that end of the waterpark through food sales than you are taking a tween's pocket money for some basketball.
