  1. I just can't believe some of the stupid close minded self centered posts in this thread! The good news is that all of you saying how shit this is are in no way its target market. Top Gold is one of the fastest growing entertainment destinations in the US. It's meant for socializing and fun (which seems to be a bit of a foreign concept here) with a bit of wacking of a Golf Ball for a laugh thrown in. It's no more Golf than Putt Putt is. As for it being a rip off for mansion dwellers, beside that being a real bogan thing to say, there is a MASSIVE market for this. It's not yuppies, it's cashed up tourists and young people with disposable income. If it's not for you because you're a theme park nerd (nothing wrong with that) then as a theme park enthusiasts surely you can see what a great move and investment this is for VRTP which means more cash to buy you more rides. One thing enthusiasts do is lose site of the big picture and only worry about what is important to their own interests. That's a bad thing. I can't wait to have TG to go to myself. It will be awesome for tourists and locals alike. If we want a massive entertainment precinct then we need to cater to all sorts of folks. As for $35m. You've got land prep, site works, infrastructure, licensing, the facility itself, massive amounts of AV and Tech. I can't see that easily costing that much.

  2. Yeah thats a fair play - for me i've said the same thing over Buzzsaw, Tailspin and Pandamonium - although having been on Tailspin I now recognise it as a solid flat, I did not give it enough credit. It still wouldn't have been enough to renew my pass with DW but its solid either way... but I wouldn't call that lame just for that reason... I don't think VRTP needs to install something to make people buy a pass. The pricepoint at the moment is more than enough to bring people to the parks. The add-on sales of things like hunger buster are enough to get extra revenue. The park doesn't need a ride that will bring people to the park - the park needs a ride that makes the whole park better... and this - even if you never ride it - will still make your day better. Why? Because with a theoretical 720PPH (which let's face it will probably be closer to 370-400PPH with VRTP operations) will still soak up more people - thats less queueing in Scooby, Superman, Green Lantern etc... and with the interactive theming, an entirely immersive area, and the potential for more 'villains unleashed' in the same area in the future, it creates another sponge to draw people off main street and out of the big queues. Even if its shit - the GP will still patronise it, and that improves the park overall. It's what they've needed for a long long time. And anything that does that, can't be lame - right?

  4. ^sounds like a great itinerary! If they build the hotel complex discussed previously, they could probably have shuttles \ transfers between their hotel and SW resort. You could easily set something up for luggage at MW hotel being transferred and held at SW resort for the day...

  5. Matt Preston from Masterchef has said Brisbane is the one city where you arrive at the restaurant and have drinks at the bar, then get your table for your meal, then return to the bar after dinner. I find this is exactly what happens in places like this, or Strike. You'll arrange to meet your friends there at 6:00. Nobody will have thought to book ahead so it'll be 7:00 before you get your tee. There's an hour of drinks/snacks sales. You'll order finger food to arrive while you have the tee plus more drinks during the game. After you're done, some will leave but many will stay on and have more drinks. Building this at the Village Precinct seems like the best place to put it. If they either convince state government or chip in to have the G:Link continued from Helensvale station over through the precinct, I can see this area becoming a great place to be. Throw in a bar within the hotel then you've got a holiday destination in one location. Fly into Coolangatta and grab the bus or tram once they extend it that far, check in to the hotel and grab a drink at the bar, a round at TopGolf then hit the hay. Day two is all day at Movieworld with AOS afterwards, and a bar to go to for drinks after the show. Day three at Wet n Wild and then a quiet night in because that day is always draining. Day four at Sea World on your way out (SW might need luggage lockers or something)

  7. Thanks for the support guys. I survived the night although didnt get much sleep. Total raised was $14,500 and 3 of my exec team took part this year raising over $7k on top so over $21k in total. Well worth the discomfort and sleep deprivation. Mark

  8. ^Have you been on one of these before? Because if you haven't, you can't judge until you have. I think it's a great addition to the park, and they needed a flat ride with high capacity, and this is it.

  9. it's behind the Big Brother Cafe as what T-bone said, @T-bone I can assure you that I didn't do an Andrew as the gate to Car Park B was open, speaking about gates, someone was leaning on the gate of the construction site of Tiger Island and the gate swung backwards, no Andrews attempted to go in. Staff member at TOT2 knew it was an accident also... @The Original Belinda BrownI didn't know you and Kenny had a child!

  12. Everyone has their own opinion, and I respect that. When I mentioned the main street music I was thinking more along the lines of the stuff that wasn't from the movies. I agree that the music directly from the Disney movies is an odd choice, but there are people who seem to enjoy it (I have seen people singing to that music in the park). With that mentioned, I'm interested in hearing from@The Original Belinda Brown If there has been a guest reaction from the new music, or has it gone unnoticed?

  13. Given the choice between this and a regular golf driving range I am in this giving this a try group. Getting together with a group of people and relaxing at a place like this sounds more fun than going to a normal driving range. Who goes out and sees movies these days? I do, movies were meant to be watched on a large screen with decent sound setup. Things like IMAX and Dolby Cinema aren't something you can replicate at home. People keep comparing this to bowling. I see the same thing, I am happy to go to a standard AMF for a few games as it is cheaper than somewhere like Strike (plus it is more BYO gear friendly), but that doesn't mean I would never step foot in somewhere like a Strike bowling bar or put up the opposition to going somewhere that offers a more social environment if a group of my friends were interested. Will say I am willing to meet up with a group of people from here once it opens to see what it is like.

  14. Ok I've moved/removed a bunch of posts from the last couple days. Can we please try and keep each topic in its own thread so we don't get mega threads. Also take personal insults and bitching to another forum.

  15. Music choice is such a hard thing! When I used to DJ at parties, the number of people that would come up and ask you to play a song was insane. No matter what music it is, there will always be some people that dislike it.

  17. Hi Belinda Firstly, thank you for joining and providing an official outlet for the people of this forum to use. First i'd like to take this opportunity to say, It is very clear from the direction the park has been going over the past year and bit that Dreamworld is starting to get its mojo back. It won't ever be what it was, lets be honest, but its great to see things that management of the past decided to neglect get some love. Thank you. Now, can I ask a few question 1) With the refound interest in returning the Baldwin to service on a monthly service, are there any thoughts about the future of the Baldwin and ultimately the steam train service at the park? A few years ago I thought we would never see the day that a steam train ran on the tracks at Dreamworld in full steam again, now we have got to that, what is the future? Will we ever see the steam engine run full time again, worst case would the park be open to running the Baldwin more regularly? I understand there is staffing limitations, but there is always a way around that... 2) The Fire-engine which has been at the park since opening day if I am not wrong was recently returned to Main Street after many years of being blocked off from the general public. However on the last visit, the fire engine had disappeared from Main Street. Will it be returning? 3) Back to the Baldwin, has the park ever considered doing a "steam train tour" in the same vein as you provide for the animals? The idea of the tour would be to give potential tour guests the opportunity to visit the train shed during a steam up? Not only would this help provide awareness, but would also generate some extra income. I understand there are staffing limitations, but this wasn't offered before the removal of steam years ago when there was a full roster of staff. 4) Has the park considered adding random entertainment to the train ride? Theres a few good spots on the journey around the park which would be good for an old fashioned "hold up", just like the old days... 5) It's been posted numerous times on this forum that hit music usually fills Gold Rush Country, is there any reason for this? I do like that you have recently changed the music played on main street to be less "hit" like. That is all for now. Thank you for listening. I look forward to your response. P.S, just on the suggestions above about some Halloween Screamworld stuff, The Blue Lagoon area would and could be a lovely spot for a Halloween scare zone

  20. I think there are a few people who aren't quite getting it. This isn't for serious golfers, this is a casual activity that friends can go do together. Again the best way to think about it is a bowling alley. I suspect a lot of members here are too young to remember what bowling alleys used to be like, but it was always plain fluro lights, with no music or bar. These days it's all glow in the dark balls, loud pop music, bar foods and cocktails. Basically they're doing what they did to bowling alleys to a driving range now. Not only that, but there's also a game element to it with targets and all sorts of other fun things going on with the technology to make the main experience more fun. If it's anything like the places in the states there's also licences arcades and a few other things there. How often do you go bowling? Because that's probably roughly how often you'll go to this.
