  1. A start would be to remove the Village uniform.

  2. I don't think it would have saved money to do the triple launch? Less LSMs but more track, and its expensive tall track with deep foundations..

  3. I should get this printed out and put in my office, always need to remind myself of this.

  4. Am I actually assuming that though? Taking a step back, it’s pretty clear there was budget available for theming, and they spent that in a way that’s different to the way I would’ve spent it and, in my opinion, may have made it a far more iconic experience. It’s also just my opinion, we all know i’m passionate about the park, and just because they didn’t do it my way doesn’t make them wrong either. Putting aside what budget they actually had, why risk a 30 million dollar asset’s success over an extra 500k? It’s a theme park - experience matters, and not only is it a once in a generation investment, the whole park now relies on the success of this ride, so being austere at this point is borderline negligent, especially when it’s been proven that tactic hasn’t yielded results. Sky Voyager is a great example of how delays, poor marketing and a mediocre pre-ride experience (and facade to boot) killed a 20-million dollar investment - why make that mistake again, especially when it literally casts a shadow over the new project? Superman Escape was delayed and ended up having another four million spent on it. The end result though was that the park was transformed into a legitimate player against Dreamworld in the thrill ride space and drove a 9.5% increase in attendance.

  5. I'd be happy for them to dramatically increase their annual pass prices if they stopped treating their theme parks like a single entity. The 'one at a time' mentality behind how they improve their theme parks really leaves more to be desired especially now that the Gold Coast basically has a net-loss of theme park attractions because we can't build rides quick enough to counter the early days where most parks were adding new big additions annually. Now that they've got the private investment firm behind them they really need to make sure that all of their parks are constantly being improved otherwise it's going to 6-8 years before Sea World gets touched after New Atlantis.

  6. Dreamworld has typically done this in the past, and has thrown in a pun to boot. Have some fun with this stuff I say.

  8. The clean-up at the front entrance is mainly down to a redesign of the souvenir shop. Instead of exiting through the shop, you do a u-turn and exit through the same doors you entered the shop, and then quickly exit through a small gate beside the entrance booths. So the giant fuck-you billboards are gone because they no longer need to steer you back inside the entrance plaza to flog you a shitty greenscreen photo, because by exiting you beside the entrance booths, you walk straight by it. It's time they redesigned and refurbished the entrance plaza and begin using it the way they used to again.

  9. Given the saga that has been Dreamworld's construction of Steel Taipan - do you honestly believe the 'ton of money' they 'saved' by reducing the launch components was just shovelled into a dumpster waiting for them to buy theming with it? Or if the 'saving money' part of reducing the launch more likely brought the pricetag down to a point where they could just afford it, leaving no money left to actually build it, requiring a loan from the government to do so... I doubt they had much in the way of 'extra capital' to do anything with, beyond what we've already seen.

  10. I think we'll find with Dreamworld every ride should be open by Summer time. I always like to think of what marketing might sit behind the parks at Christmas. Dreamworld Steel Taipan, New Train, 'Rides & Slides', New January 'event' VRTP New Water slides at WNW, Probably a cute animal at Paradise Country, Movieworld should have extended hours (DC Rivals Vs Heroes event), perhaps even a new WB Showcase

  11. Whilst I agree that increased ticket prices are the way to go to secure a more quality experience, this is some strange strategic timing especially considering the New Atlantis delay and the Steel Taipan opening right around the corner. For a family of four locals to visit the Village parks with annual passes it'll cost them $756 for entry with no discounts, and for non locals its $996. For a family of four to visit the Dreamworld + White Water World with annual passes it'll cost them $476 for entry with no discounts. I guess it really depends on what you're after, but at Dreamworld you can get animals, a water park, decent rides and Steel Taipan with an additional $250-500 to play with. A family could easily eat like a king, grab souvenirs or add some extra nights to their accommodation with that money. I know that some will argue that the value proposition is still in Village's hand, but it's going to be really hard to drag people away from the theme park with a brand new launched roller coaster which is cheaper, has animals, and a water park connected to it. I'm interested to see how this holiday season pans out!

  12. Makes the old Memberships more valuable, despite seemingly missing out on some promos and in park discounts compared to One Pass… $144 a year including fright nights tickets (when it’s on) is a steal

  13. Seconded. It’s finally more than Adventure World’s off-peak season pass. If we want better parks, this is the road we need to be on.
