  1. I don't agree with this "Dreamworld doesn't look after its theming" stuff - perhaps 5 years ago I might have - but not today. Cyclone was a case of rotting theming because Dreamworld didn't look after it yes - but that was the result of lack of maintenance many years back now, and if they didn't want to look after it, HWSW wouldn't be a thing. None of Dreamworld's "new-gen themed rides/areas" (Wipeout/Tail Spin/Tiger Island) have been around long enough for us to know if they've turned around their theming maintenance with this new effort in theming. Are the surfboards back on wipeout, and have they been repainted? If so, then that might be a sign that Dreamworld are trying to turn their past reputation around. Even Claw's repaint a few years back was a sign that Dreamworld are trying to improve things. When Tail Spin or Wipeout become to look like some of DW's older rides, then I will believe that Dreamworld doesn't look after its theming, but I currently believe that's a statement that really only applies 5 or 10 years ago. Wipeout's refurb and HWSW are both perfect examples that Dreamworld are fixing some of their theming, just slowly. Plus you have the little improvements at the park - general repaints, the themed wall next to ToT, etc. Whether they could deal with a Dark Ride, that's something I don't think I could say since DW haven't done something on that level before.

  2. The theming they did have I thought was pretty good and did suit well, it was just way to cramped and no air flow at all making it very hot when in the queue. If that theming was spread out and allowed for air flow it would've been heaps better

  3. Like said before, any sort of theming that DW puts on its rides are simply left to rot with age. This has been a flaw with DW's maintenance procedures for years and years. Cyclone's old theming in 2014/15 is an example of how poorly DW treats its on-ride scenery. There were cobwebs all over the station, the theming inside the old queue was intensely sun faded, blue paint was splattered across the floor, bird shit was on the turbine and the onride photo was non-functional. The place was a mess. This is why DW shouldn't do elaborate theming or any dark ride for that matter. It looks fantastic for a couple years, before it becomes dilapidated like what happened to GD, Cyclone and TOT2 to some extent.

  4. Ditto. And anyone who knows me personally also knows how much of a massive Doctor Who fan I am. Just no....

  5. All these ideas about how Dr. Who could work have successfully convinced me that Dr. Who is an awful idea.

  6. Only omission I can't understand is WWF.

  7. Sea World basically exists because of having Dolphin Shows. I don't think Affinity is the best incarnation, but again is see it as 'dolphin shows at Sea World', in which case it totally belongs there. Mammoth Falls I think is also deserving of its place on the list. I mean it has a very long ride time, a small height requirement, genuinely fun for all ages, is rerideable, and a has massive capacity. It was also the first of Wet "n" Wild's big modern slides and really helped the park transition from small local water park, to something quite special. I think it's a pretty good list really. All of those attractions are not only the best the Gold Coast has, but they were also what made the Gold Coast what they are. When you look through the list, (with the exception of PA which was just perfection itself) most of those rides represent some sort of coming of age for the park they're in, and resulted in a boost which propelled the park along. The only change I would have made would be to combine ToT/GD onto one spot and get Corkscrew on the list. While nothing special in terms of a coaster it was able to be the signature thrill ride for Sea World pretty much it's whole life. I'm glad that rides like Green Lantern, Claw and Buzzsaw didn't make the list, because while all fun rides, I don't view them as being anything 'special'.

  8. ^ I would agree, and I personally think Imagine was a better show than Affinity.

  9. Just going to add, I am 16 and I have heard the name Doctor Who, but have no idea what its about. Plus I asked lots of my friends my age and a lot of them are clue less. So I wouldn't say Doctor Who is something that everyone knows.

  10. My 8-year-old was watching H20: Just Add Water on Netflix, and the particular episode featured quite a bit of Sea World - she called me in to show me "how cool Sea World used to be". This particular scene was showing Bermuda Triangle in operation (just externally at the final drop).

  11. RE: Re-use the Rapids Ride Cave for a relocated Vintage Cars No. Just no. That is a horrible idea. Re using any infrastructure from the Rapids ride is in poor taste, and would serve as a constant reminder about what happened. Also people are suggesting keeping the Gold Rush theme and moving the Vintage cars to the area; the last Goldrush was over way before Model T Fords came along. The only advantage of a rethemed area with Vintage cars is that it would be very cheap; it's just the cost of demolishing what's already there (which they have indicated they're planning to anyway) and pouring a new roadway. The cheapness is literally the only thing the idea has going for it.

  12. Why not both? In any case, I hope it gets the same love Tiger Island got. That'd make me really, really happy. Dreamworld's biggest advantage is being one-stop destination for out of towners, waterpark, rides, koalas, kangaroos, local culture, pretty tough to beat in terms of a one day destination.

  13. That sign would be tacky as hell in that location anyway. It's a peaceful tropical area of the park, the sign takes away from the area. However, the fact the sign is pointing away from the ride takes it from tacky to embarrassing. Can people see why I'm as negative as I am?
