VRTP have announced on their website that the DC Superheroes and Supervillains event will be running from December 27th 2020 to January 16th 2021.

I guess it’s easy for the parks in Aus to get away with doing the bare minimum, because there’s hardly any competition.. but this event has been running for like 4 years now? They really need to breathe some life into the event, come up with something new and exciting.

Maybe i’m the odd one out, but it’s just very underwhelming now.

I’m happy with extended trade until 8PM for the peak period regardless of the DC event.

Suprised they have announced it without the usual details of up charges and shows.

Wonder if we will have a new character (or updated design) debut as has been the case for the previous events.

Possibly. Most of the villains are returning characters from Movie Worlds earlier years (mainly from Burton/Schumacher Batman films) and all the heroes have already had their New 52 upgrades, I believe. The only characters I could see appearing would be another villain from the New 52 universe.

What I’ve noticed over the last couple of years is that there a fair few cosplayers attending this event and very often do guests seem to ask them for photos. I wonder if Movie World will allow cosplaying this year due to the COVIDSafe plan.

It’s an annual event that is EXTREMELY popular and being in summer this time around rather than winter will make those extended trading hours even more attractive for locals and interstate visitors.

You don’t even know what they have planned and are already bitching & moaning... seriously.

You're absolutely right, it is incredibly popular, and that's great. What i'm trying to say is, nothing is changed each year, and from what I can see so far, nothing has changed this year either. I'll be happy to stand corrected if that isn't the case once all the details are released - but in years past, these events (DC Supervillains, White Christmas) have stayed entirely the same with no worthwhile interesting additions or changes.

As for what both @joz and yourself are saying, i apologise if what i said came across in any way as 'bitching and moaning'. I would simply like to see some new exciting additions to the offering (new shows, more precincts, extra theming etc.).

I can’t really speak for WC because I only really go to ride the attractions. I don’t partake in any of the festive activities.

But as for Heroes and Villains, the first year had great feedback. It seemed to have a Batman Returns theme (kinda), the second year they focused more on the New 52 universe. They brought out a new design to the new Batman, Robin and Joker characters. They also had the costume competition and an amazing parade. Third year, they introduced a new design to the Harley Quinn character, a new parade followed by the Jokers funhouse party with themed food outlets. They have definitely changed it up over the last few years.

Thanks for pointing that out. I guess I had my expectations a little high on new additions 😅

What exactly were you expecting? An Arkham Asylum maze? (which has already happened). A Dark Knight Stunt Show?

Technically speaking, DC Superheroes and Supervillains isn’t really a special event (compared to WC & FN). They’re offering extended hours and you don’t need to purchase a seperate ticket to attend. It just sounds like you’re not really appreciating the work that goes into these events.

This is a bit much now, don't you think? I've apologised, I've pointed out I made a mistake, is there really a need now to drag me about it?

Extended hours aren't the most extraordinary idea, nor is allowing day-pass access without a seperate ticket. I've mentioned it twice now, all i was saying is it would be cool if the event could really be changed up each year apart from just a few costume designs, parade floats and new food outlets. As you've mentioned, specialised stunt shows (could occupy the HSD arena) would be interesting to see at some point. An event-only 4D Film?

Really, i'm not trashing the event at all - i'm merely pointing out some ideas which I personally think would be really interesting to add to the line-up already delivered each year.

Whilst these would be great, I can’t see it happening. A stunt show would take too much planning and rehearsal time for a two week event.

Also, VRTP don’t  create their 4D films so they wouldn’t be able to show a film specific to the event. Most of their 4D films have been shorter versions of feature films such as Journey, Rio, Yogi Bear The closest thing they could show is Man of Steel the 4D experience but it might a little too frightening for younger audiences.

Hey didn't they show Polar Express specific to WC, and that Freddie V Jason kills one specific to FN?

Therefore it stands to reason they could do it for this.

Polar Express 4D experience was created by Iwerks Entertainment  and Friday the 13th was just a montage of kill scenes from the films. The only 4D experience Movie World created was Adventures in the Fourth Dimension (1991).

You wouldn't create one though from scratch you'd just find a 3d film relevant to the event.

The only DC themed 4D experiences Iwerks has on offer is: Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Man of Steel and Green Lantern. These 4D experiences are all shortened versions of the original feature films.

I'm sure there's enough fans out there to even warrant a small up-charge to be able to see these films in 4D. Especially Aquaman or Wonder Woman.

I'm a fan of them but wouldn't be willing to pay even a small up-charge to see a 4D condensed version.

How about WW84 screenings after the parade for $15pp?

You know as much as I hate the whole 'Shorten a feature length movie into 15min highlight reel and call it a theme park attraction' thing, playing the condensed Aquaman between 5pm and 8pm wouldn't be the absolute worst thing they could do. I mean it's on theme, was filmed next door and the park has props on display from the film. I wouldn't hate it. Don't think it's necessary, but it would go alright.
