Movie World Maintenance Schedule 2025
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to TV15's topic in Theme Park Discussion
All great suggestions. And while i'd love to bash village here and say they just went with the cheapest option to solve the problem, my bet here is that their risk analyst\consultant has probably told them the more thematic options Gazza posted above weren't acceptable because it only reduces the risk but could still be climbed and only 6+foot pool fencing would eliminate the risk, and anything less than total risk elimination simply wasn't an option for them in this current risky averse world. -
I dont mind the fencing they did on railblazer, though I'd probably put rust style thematic paint finish on the mesh: Big Grizzy Mountain looks good as well

I haven't been here for nearly 20 years. I check my archives, maybe I missed a whole generation of fencing. In my photo has have the same 70s style fencing you park your car against at the footy oval in the suburbs.

Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster Overhaul
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Spotty's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Its a hard pill to swallow when a rollercoaster can be built in a year, but it takes 3 years to rebuild. From what I understand, they had planned on upgrades with Mack and had booked their build slot - which I believe was supposed to be after WoZ opened - but the ride had to be closed earlier than planned - the build slot couldn't be moved up, so the 3 years has just been waiting on Mack to deliver in the timeframe previously locked in. I believe they've taken the time to improve other bits and pieces (and all the cars are getting replaced too, I think?), so there is a lot being done - but the time it has taken is much longer than actually required - which may set some false expectations.- 283 replies

Yes it does look bad, but the fence has been this style for at least a decade to my recollection, it’s just been made taller. And while it sucks they’ve had to do this, if there were that many people dropping stuff and jumping the fence to get there items then I see the need to increase its height. And while the height doesn’t look too significant in that photo, it’s just the perspective (as it was taken over the construction fencing) because of you look at the fence to the right next to the exit store, it’s nearly touching the ceiling. Which makes me think the new fence is at least 2m tall. Maybe the better solution would’ve been to install two fences with 0.5-1 metre separation so it someone did drop something and decide to jump the fence, they still wouldn’t be in the ride and envelope.

Yeah it would be cool to do the roof flame effect (2 m 32 secs) But if they can't get isolation for haze, I doubt they can pull off a flame effect.

Dont forget brake upgrades plus a control system upgrade too. Thats a big one that takes hundreds of hours of testing.

The fence looks awful in my opinion WWF was my favorite ride but in the last 5 years its fallen apart and most of the effects don't work anymore so this is just another stab to the heart.
-
Look it doesn’t look too bad, but definitely could have come up with some themed fencing similar to Jungle Rush or something.

Fence is finished. Looks the same as before but taller. Photo TPSN

To be clear, it wasn't machinery the kid was actually stuck in, it makes it seem like he was caught in some big machine. He stuck his head through the ceiling rose and when the pole moved it pinned his head against the fibreglass opening on the ceiling. He wasn't just standing up on a character when riding, but literally climbing up the character and standing on the seat itself, sticking your head up against the pole. It's not a fast moving ride in the slightest, normally you would expect someone would see the roof coming close to them and duck down, not stick your head through the opening. There is absolutely no way to enclose the hole the poles come through, you have forward/backward motion of the crankshaft, plus some lateral movement due to alignments that have to be allowed for it to function. As said, they normally install this nylon brush stuff as a deterrent, but it's not something that actually stops you from sticking a hand (or other body part) through the ceiling.

Not sure it needs more lighting effects, but agree with you otherwise. Maybe a fire effect/fake fire effect

Finally had a go on this last week. Very impressive.. only nit pick would be to enclose the bit of track from the station to the turntable room, add add more lighting effects and haze to the turntable room .

Dreamworld posted a short video of JR going from the turntable, forwards through the track and back to the turntable with Front, Rear and face cam of 2 riders. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DKVj-1jsOfq/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Pretty standard nothing much here, but it does have a not so subtle dig at their neighbours in the comment/description.

Which is a big issue when they struggle to manage their annual maintenance periods because it creates a very poor first impression when almost all of the rides at the front of the park are closed. But then you head to the back of the park and everything there is actually closed.

Movie World Maintenance Schedule 2025
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to TV15's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Honestly - in the current environment, the reveal would not be worth the potential foot traffic to their retail offering. Having almost all their merch and F&B down main street - i'd avoid it entirely. If you consider what the park offered prior to 2004 - Main Entrance offered BA:TRide and the SFX soundstages \ studio tour. That's it. "rides" and experiences were all through \ beyond main street. Roxy, Scooby, PASS\HWSD, Lethal, WWF, Kids, showstage and all the other various attractions that have come and gone over the years. Everything was in or past main street. Now, almost nothing is and everything is front-loaded. I realise the park has issues with noise (not a problem for indoor dark rides of course) but the front loading is so bad now you could effectively never walk past any opportunity to drain your pockets, save for the JL store at the exit. It just seems like really poor design. -
The only reason to turn left at the end of Main Street is to talk the back alley entrance to the left of Scooby to access Wizard of Oz; the reveal you should have for the land.

Movie World Maintenance Schedule 2025
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to TV15's topic in Theme Park Discussion
There is literally zero reason to walk past the WB Department store - everything open (for adults) is off the entrance roundabout. Edit: They should probably remove Doomsday from the list since they've announced it (and ripped it out of the ground) Edit2: even off the roundabout there's still 3 attractions closed - Rivals, Flash and Wicked Witch. -
Have to agree with you. My expectations are way low now.

Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster Overhaul

I was cautiously optimistic of the ride returning to the opening (of the ride) standard when this was announced, but after Oz and various visible maintenance/upkeep issues around the park I don’t have faith anymore. I’m not even confident it will open this year tbh.- 283 replies

You’re telling me that only having 50% of the park open isn’t a reason to visit 🙃
-
I was done being an Australian theme park enthusiast long ago, but this shit is the final nail in the coffin. I lived on the Gold Coast for 21 years, but I'll never visit again because there's no reason to. Doesn't matter that AirTimeThrills raved about DC Rivals or Steel Taipan. Nothing's going to get me to cough up a dollar to visit these parks.

Don't think so, here's a pic from Coaster Studios' tour after it closed

I was gonna say, that was 100% not there in 2012 when I worked at the park and did regular morning track walks of Scooby. So yeah, part of the next gen "upgrade" to tie in with the lift sequence ft. Scrappy Doo.
