Annual passholders received a 208 day extension to their pass expiry Rides retired are officially announced instead of being SBNO for 8-9 months without word from the park (and Flowrider was a low throughput attraction to be taking up prime real estate in OP) 3 major attractions won't be operating on opening - Sidewinder (painting), Buzz (coaster construction) and train (botched entirely). No other huge swaths of 'down for annual maintenance' like we saw with Movieworld, so the suggestion that they were getting maintenance done in their extended closure seems to be accurate The other 'experience' based attractions are closed as distancing and hygiene are harder to manage. Rick's was a similar reason I believe? Seasonal waterpark operations which have long been suggested for WnW also and probably a wise move all-round (for both companies) A reduced pass price for locals (non locals probably aren't coming right now anyway) is also a nice concession (although probably needed with all of the ride removals recently). I'd have liked to have seen Village do similar - especially when so much was closed. Proof is in the pudding and it will remain to be seen whether they sustain this post-opening week (after which, we saw Village cut back a lot due to low visitation), but on paper it looks like a much better way to return to operations.16 points

I’ve actively avoided having another child since my son outgrew BRC for fear I’d end up having to repeat 4 years of that god forsaken ride. My partner will be over the moon when I tell her it’s time to start trying again....4 points

Wow Shane Warne would be proud of the spin you've achieved there.4 points

Buying a park for cheap is great until you realise you've gotta pump an extra $300m into it just to hopefully provide short-mid term results3 points

It seems they wanna press ahead with the coaster. But at the same time you wouldn’t wanna build the coaster and not be able to get MAck into the country to commission it and you paid $32 million dollars for a ride to sit empty. Like currently is the case with Vortex.2 points

One of the few times a ride closure will actually increase ticket sales.2 points

Hey hang on a minute.... I'm very much not in the 'dreamworld can do no wrong camp' and have stated many times I prefer Village over Dreamworld. This illustrates just how hard you guys are going on 'beating down pro-dreamworld sentiment'. What, exactly is the issue with what i've said? I've made comparisons to Village \ Movie World in numerous dot points, but everything is pretty factual - please tell me which of them isn't a reasonable comparison? As for the coaster count - thats fair. It has however been long stated that Dreamworld kills Movie World on the flat front, so the ride count still available is vastly different. There is still plenty to do for most demographics at Dreamworld with Sidewinder and Buzz down. Movie World's image wasn't helped by the fact that Arkham was still on their 'maintenance list' instead of just being removed entirely too.2 points

Enthusiasts when Movie World had only two coasters open for a few days due to maintenance - how dare they, Village is evil. Enthusiasts when Dreamworld will open with two coasters - nah it's alright, they're trying. Something something not aimed at management something something pointing out enthusiasts are biased.2 points

I believe BRC was already on the chopping block as it's part of the ABC Kids revamp and refurb. Flowrider is a bit unexpected but it didn't really get too much use and if they ever wanted to put a new one in, they aren't exactly expensive2 points

To be fair anything would have to be better than Carnivale at Sea World. That was the biggest massacre of what was a great event at Movie World ever. Hopefully this is the ground up tailor made event Sea World needs.2 points

With the Ranger, it was up for sale a few years ago. While no official announcement has been made it is rather old now. Remember when the UFO went. I just suddenly shut for a short time then vanished. We will see the same with Ranger.1 point

I’m hoping that as flow riders aren’t expensive it’s being closed and a new one will be built down the track. However the new one being built inside WWW not dreamworld. Also hopefully the BRC ride closing for good means the ABC kids world revamp is finally happening along with buzzsaw closing for construction of the new coaster to commence. Also side note; I thought mega threads weren’t allowed anymore?1 point

I wouldn't take it personally - more of a read of the room as of late. In regards to Arkham - both chains could do a lot better with being transparent, direct and consistent (see Log Ride, Bermuda Triangle, Looney Tunes, Wipeout etc. etc.) in announcing permanent closures. All in all it's great news - there's a lot of great people that work at Dreamworld and i'm glad that this closure saga is finally over for them.1 point

Neither company was performing anything but the bare minimum of preventative maintenance while things were shut indefinitely. Dreamworld have a full 5 weeks from today and a check for 70 million to catch up on maintenance and certification. They also had 7 weeks before now to get ready. The comparison is accurate but not the full picture.1 point

Well, it's positive news. The park (DW) will reopen. BRC was due to leave us anyway so that was somewhat known. Flowrider is a shock as last year it had a refurb. It has always been in super awkward place within the park anyway. So not a really big lose plus it was the only upcharge attraction in the park. Obviously numbers are going to low at the park. With no interstate travellers for the foreseeable future, it means all parks will seem rather quite. Whitewater World moving to become a seasonal park is a good move. Operating cost get lowered straight away and they also have the ability to take those staff and keep them on (if they choose to) within DW. This will help in the definite short term in lowering that all-important overall coast. I would like to see the parks season be a little longer tho. January it's way too early. You could easily run it until the end of easter.1 point

Source: https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/dreamworld-announces-reopening-date/news-story/2202d1785a4076dd99c6f3f57ea617ce Key thing I pull from this they specifically call out the coaster construction starting in the ambiguous "near future".1 point

Well they are... They could probably try to argue a major theme park is critical to economic recovery given tourism benefits. Especially if film & TV production counts and they’ve managed to get overseas actors back in.1 point

What? Where did they generate liquid assets prior to covid then? Where do you think the money will go that it's flushing it down? It's not going to keep people employed? pay accounts and services? There's absolutely no return on the investment? 100 million dollar losses didn't come until after the accident and included the valuation losses to the business. How is it not profitable when prior to the accident they were generating about 33% margins and ebitda profit figures of 30-35 million on average per year for the 5 years prior? There's a reason why dreamworld returned valuations of around 220-230 million prior to the accident. It's because it operated within stable division generating steady profits, not because the park is worth 60 million dollars in land and completely mismanaged. Like the direction the park has been heading in or not, it matters very little when they were still seeing 2.4 million people through the gates each year. Don't get sentiment confused with actual operations.1 point
