I heard from my Dad who works for theme park that they're actually turning the Giant Drop into a 120m tall topple tower during the refurb.8 points

Movie World need to add more family friendly attractions. Unless they propose to do so. In which case they suck and they should have got a bigger thrill coaster.7 points

Spinning seat solo ... Most intense and exhilarating experience I have had on a rollercoaster in my life5 points

Jokes aside, I don't know how to feel about this announcement. I'm sure it will be well received but I really think that Movie World has a flat ride and people eater deficit.4 points

They need to demolish Speedys and replace it with a couple of new kids flats and maybe one central general family flat. They've gotten rid of Tazs bumper cars and put in that calming space, they've gotten rid of pounce and bounce, and of course the Marvin Maggot has been gone for years, so the kids zone is pretty threadbare imo. And it would be such a cheap bit of capital too!3 points

You can post anything you like. But that doesn’t mean that: a) the self commissioned enthusiast police won’t attack you to protect the sacred honor of the parks policies b) VRTP themselves won’t try and find staff responsible for violating their employment agreements and take action against them. So basically post what you wish at your own mercy/risk.3 points

I believe he was referring to the ‘Giant Drop’ text that’s been installed on the overhead mesh on the gondolas3 points

Dreamworld Kenny's Chick 'n Wings Hawaiian Parmigiana $19.50 Pretty damn tasty and good value. Coleslaw underseasoned and dry but recommended if you're looking for something thats not a burger or hotdog. 4/5 noms2 points

Yeah I think trying to organise a whole second shift for the fully 100 people who would be in the park after 5pm with the weather is a waste of time money and effort. It sucks but lots of things suck now.2 points

Hang on. Is this 100% legit? Why would you put in 2 family (albeit dueling) Boomerang coasters and then surround it with….another family coaster?? That seriously makes no sense. Of course the new Vekoma STC coaster is what is needed here. Surely Movieworld can’t be THAT stupid? Look at the success of the install at Tripsdrill. That looks amazing and by all accounts rides fantastic. As a direct replacement for AA then it makes complete sense. To have a non inverting coaster as well as the other 2 family coasters is quite frankly an astonishingly unbalanced decision. I sincerely hope that this is not true.2 points
-
I mean they did just build rivals and green lantern as thrill coasters that didn’t replace existing rides. So they could still remove AA to replace with family rides.2 points

All new Vekomas are good now they have updated the track system.2 points

Movie World and Joker themed rides, name a more iconic duo trio. PS, I think MW could have maybe one more large family flat (like a dumbo or NebulaZ type thing), but on the whole new flat rides never seem to draw crowds. Never waited more than one cycle for one in Aus. If you want flat rides, go to Aussie World I guess.2 points

What's wrong with Vekoma? It's not the brand, mate - its how you use it!2 points
-
Probably exactly why they have gone with this ‘3 for the price of 1’ concept, to 100% tackle capacity. Whilst I agree flats would be good, hell so would a whole new kids area, coasters drive gate.2 points
-
When they reduce to one train operation, they use the spinning seat. They’ve been operating both trains for the morning (at minimum) and when the queue settles down they put the spare train in the maintenance building1 point
-
ST moves onto a one train op once the crowds are getting quieter and most cycles are empty, not when the carpark is filled to the brim with 2-3 hour waits1 point
-
MDMC’s second train is currently in the storage area and pretty sure the original train got replaced as well as it looks bright and brand new Also, vintage cars is back to 5-6 cars instead of 3 and are utilising all 3 stop lights (2 in station before the load / unload area and 1 in the usual spot before the station) don’t know how long it has been like this but just thought i’d update1 point

@Gazzathe rumour I heard was this is the model MW are getting. "Rumour"1 point

It’s not being covidsafe, it’s the fact that there are a heap of staff in isolation waiting on results or having Covid1 point

It's a sad day when the ginger factory family ride is better than MW family ride offerings.1 point

I was addressing your comment that the layout seems to have gone backwards, which I disagree with. If I went to a park and it had a normal SLC layout and the Tripsdrill one, I'd go ride the Tripsdrill type one first because its got better flow and elements.1 point
-
Whilst i'm not overly thrilled with the choices at the same time they do make sense to me. Sure I would have liked to see another big coaster like a B&M replace AA this is probably a much better use of the space. I agree while B&Ms can be great there are so many other options out there that provide ride experiences that are similar or better than B&M and cost a fraction of the price. Movie World is going to get more bang for the buck with this decision.1 point

@Gazzacompared with AA it looks like the layout has gone backwards.1 point

If Movieworld can theme along these lines , add in another Boomerang coaster then how can we not be excited by these plans?1 point

They have replaced SLC's with STC's now. Different train, different restraints, different wheel carrier design.1 point

To be fair, theme parks are businesses. I wish our parks were more idealistic but they are not and likely never will be. If slapping down three coasters makes them big bucks even with the possible problems it could create down the track then ultimately it's Movie World who will have the last laugh.1 point

Serious? Sorry mate I consider that a fairly ill informed comment. There are loads of examples of just how good the new generation of Vekoma coasters actually are. Think Lech coaster , think Abyssus , think the new STC at Tripsdrill , think the numerous new Vekomas opened or opening in China. They are producing some great rides and they are definitely cheaper than B&M’s. Realistically this I great bang for buck and is a great move for the park. Other thank LPS, name another Australian park which has opened 3 coasters all at once? And these will be full sized coasters…… B&M’s are great rides but they have been discussed on these forums ad nauseum on why an Australian park will likely never get one… I would take 3 new coasters like these over one B&M for a park like Movieworld…this is a great move. Also who says that the coaster will not be inverting? Surely this will be the duelling family boomerang model and the STC model similar to the setup at Tripsdrill?1 point

Hasn’t been posted onto Parkz. Won’t be posting it unless someone rules it’s not open slather to post anything you want - but that generally isn’t the case1 point

I think there is a balance between the two that would be right, and the current version isn’t quite that, so 100% see your point of view. I could think of a few things I’d change right now that I don’t think work at all. And whilst a really solid story, it lands a little bit too depressing for me. Having said that I’d take 90% of this show over the last one with a random circus scene plonked in the middle with a plastic elephant For me, less death and a bit more audience interaction and it would be a 👍 from me.1 point

The new fall protection netting over main street and taipan is gonna be awesome with the night lighting package. Yeah, GD just needs a simple set of stairs up, and a doubled-back ramp down to function as both exit and wheelchair access and rip the rest out.1 point

I mean, Clark was chairman of VRTP since 2015 (and COO of Village since 2012) - so even if he wasn't CEO of the parks, he's been involved in some capacity for a while.1 point

I have family about to depart on essential travel who will need a RAT to return home as the current rules stand. Couldn't find anyone that had them in-stock, but asked at the counter and they produced one from underneath. Shopkeeper said their corporate office had told them to remove them from display and only sell singles when asked as those buying bulk for profit are unlikely to ask, and if they do, will baulk at requesting more than one anyway. Smart fricking business in a shortage - They could have sold boxes to the first joe-bloggs with enough cash but instead recognised the need to limit supply in a time of desperation, and for that, we'll remember their willingness to not cash in for profit and to limit supplies for the needy - they're a few minutes extra to drive from our local big-box, but we'll now make the effort to do so even if they are a few cents\dollars extra for most items.1 point

Just like Big 4 Helensvale too - whose only real selling point is the close proximity to the theme parks, offers both cabins and campsites - and offers some really awesome waterpark facilities on site. (I mean, the site floods too, but then - so does movieworld!) 100%. Amenities and facilities are still needed, but its a lot less than a multistorey hotel.1 point

They were willing to offer a chunk of land, but they weren’t impressed by the offers. https://www.ausleisure.com.au/news/northern-territory-government-remains-committed-to-darwin-waterpark-plans-despite-applicant-rejections/1 point

It’s a family duelling boomerang and a family suspended. No inversions. Really you are replacing nothing with family attractions. AA has been SBNO for long enough that the GP are not thinking “they are replacing this with that” but that you are adding 3 new rides0 points
