  9. Not quite as sophisticated as Mitch Hawker's @Slick, but I think a reasonably sound method for ranking. It's a modified version of the algorithm used on the IMDb Top 250 list... scaled down for the size of this site. Glad to see Abyss getting some love from those that have ridden. By all accounts it's worthy of a higher spot than it currently has, even if it's probably not the best-in-Australia that some proclaimed when it opened.

  13. @AlexB I liked your chart. It made a lot of sense and that's why I said MW should use it. @Theme Park Girl I'm generous because I am excited with what you put on the table today. I have been annoying Richard for years to use his super powers to get us in. I am looking at dates right now but think I want to see SE too. Hopefully you do a trip report for us.

  15. These costumes aren't based on the films; they're based off of DC Comics new 52 Universe. While it may not be as detailed as the costumes found in the DC Film universe, it certainly looks impressively close to the source material.

  16. I'm passing no comment for or against what you've said here, but I did this little chart to kind of visualise the maintenance in the park, based on what was on their maintenance page, and other info such as school holidays and doomsday construction. I haven't included fright nights or carnivale either. There would have been room to fit things around a little bit but once you add carnivale and fright nights in it starts to get a lot more difficult. I'm also mindful of the ongoing doomsday construction which - although outsourced - would still require day-to-day involvement from local crew familiar with the site. I think its been a very difficult year for them to plan. Something that also sticks in the back of my head with my background is when we see storm season, and when weather can wreak havoc on things like paintjobs. Mid-september is the start of that season, and May-early June is also a bad time for rain events. Looking at peak periods - it makes sense to close West throughout the winter holidays, but it would be suicide to close Superman. Superman went down almost immediately after holidays, and comes back up JUST in time for september holidays. I'm not having a go - but what could you see done differently to avoid the 'two majors closed at the same time' ?

  18. 300-odd reviews from you guys and this is what you came up with as the answer to this question: http://www.parkz.com.au/search/rides/ride_type/1/location/country-AU/sort/rating The ranking algorithm takes into account how many reviews a ride has, and balances that against the average of all reviews. So every single review has an impact on every other ride rating to some extent... it gets smarter and more accurate with more reviews. The more reviews an individual ride has, the more the algorithm will trust that ride's average, while a ride with only one or two reviews will be more conservatively weighted (up or down depending on where it sits in relation to the average of all rides). (Disclaimer: I just gave Surfrider what I'd consider a fair 5/10 review to bump it out of the top 10.)

  19. Thank you @Theme Park Girl for the photo. I don’t remember Superman being on the juice or could it be from pushing the train around the track for the last 11 years. @Slick I hope so. I can't hold this in much longer. I don't know how others do it. In relation to 2 major rides being down for such a long time at the same time is poor management. MW don’t have a that many rides to maintain in a year and should have shuffled things around to make it work. Overlapping downtime by a couple of weeks would have been ok.

  20. AA is my clear second. I love the height and initial descent after the lift fill, and the intensity of the ride overall. To be honest I probably prefer the ride experience on AA to SE but 'best' goes to SE purely on the dark ride element and launch

  22. I reckon MW should invest in relevant themed fence wrap for each area (really only 2-3 anyway) i mean, there's not that much greenery in the Wild West... Bit of an eyesore. even a simple western bar/saloon style image with a few wanted posters would look awesome.

  24. So which mod wants to check the IP's on the wiki page against the Parkz users to see who's been changing it?

  25. Could we at least get the shitposting to stay just on Parkz? I think it's quite bad that a lot of people in this community are going about and vandalising Wikipedia just for a quick joke. If you wanna have a laugh about the next "Churro Coaster" or "Hyper Wooden Flying Wing-Rider with a LSM launch", don't go vandalising Wikipedia to do so.

  26. SuperBatman for the win. Can I also include the coasters I pretend I'm riding while on the LPS Wild Mouse lol?

  27. @downunderdo you have to go to every topic and speak shit? We are having a grownup poll here. Got nothing to add? I picked Scooby because it's a well-rounded ride.

  28. @skeetafly Superman Escape - happy now backseat moderator? Like the actual moderators have stated, they have a pretty good set-up for ranking coasters based on reviews, and the number one result is going to be pretty obvious anyway. Why don't you a have a go at the other non-serious replies while you're at it keyboard warrior? Ooops I fed a troll, no more from me.

  29. @RichardIs there a way to show existing rides only? It's ok, I just worked that part out. If I put in Australia it shows me everything.

  30. Well the news I got while sleepwalking last night was this: Coming soon - Batwank: Escape from Movie World - will blow your mind. Movie World is just the start, it's going to make a right at the exit of the carpark and head down the highway to Sea World with 19kms of ejector airtime hills that will send coaster enthusiasts into their bedroom for some alone time. It's being part funded by the light rail as it will also be part of the Gold Coast public transport system with VRTP ticket holders riding free. Oh no it was all a dream while riding the express bus to movie world, sigh.
