Mine Ride

The sign on it says closed for maintenence, would they really lie like that?
Why not? It keeps people thinking it's not going. It even gives them the option to 'buy' more time while thinking of what to replace it with. After all, Dream World is a owned by a big corporation. And, big corporations do silly stupid, stupid things  . Of course, this may not be the fact for Dream World and Macquarie Leisure. But, we must take this into count.
You know I'd rather see dreamworld board up a ride and take it off the map if it's going to be closed for a while than put up temporary fencing. It looks much better than making it blaringly obvious there is a closed attration here.
Thats true. I agree with you there. Even if it is closed. I'd rather see board the ride up than putting up temporary fencing.
Unbelievable. That is the sort of thing Wonderland was doing in the months before it closed. When a ride would break down or needed a major overhaul, rather than repair it they'd just close it and put picnic benches/seating areas in the old queue area. They knew they were still going to get the crowds in even with less rides than ever as everyone wanted to go before it closed. Scary. I think DW really needs to pick its act up
I think everyone agrees with you here. I've been getting the feeling that they're just not in the race anymore. Maybe they think that Movie World has pulled to far out in front, and they should quit while they can? Like I said above, Big corporations do silly stupid, stupid things. I think this maybe another one of those silly stupid things. When Dream World just can't look at the clear picture of what happened to WonderLand. I guess time will only tell? :(

I have no idea why people keep on saying Movieworld is ahead of Dreamworld, it is not true at all. I go to both very regularly, they are both in fairly similar repair, Scooby Doo is especially starting to show some damage, it just happens through age. Also Dreamworld is a full day park, Movieworld is a half day park at the most, it is quite easy to go on everything, some rides a few times, within 3 hrs. Dreamworld is a far larger park. As far as the mine ride is concerned it received annual maintenance not that long ago including a major refit in 2002 as far is I can remember, I am not sure of their intentions but they may just being doing repairs if it were shut I'd say they'd take it off the website and they would certainly pull the track down. Obviously its going to be closed for a while and I'd rather the space be used by some seating than the view of some shade cloth Edited by joz

Yeah iI agree. It's starting to become an old record.
How is movieworld not 100 times better then dreamworld? Lets see, Dreamworld: - Claw: really good ride - Wipeout: old, boring - Cyclone: worst rollercoaster ever! - Tower of Terror: ok its a good ride, starting to get old.... u only go up like half way now - Giant Drop: good ride - Mine ride: closed? - River Rapids: borrrrrrinnnggg and smelly water and ugly pools of water - Log Ride: borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring.... make sure you take some chewing gum to stick on the wall! - Waverider: borrrrrrrrrrriinnggg - Gravatron: borrrrrrriiiiinnnggg - Bumper Cars: borrrriiinnngggg - Mountain ride with cars (dunno name): borrriiiing - Nick Central/Wiggles World: great for kids - Old car ride: BOOORRRRRRIIINNNGGGG so out of that maybe 3 good rides? Lets see, Movieworld, - Superman Escape: awesome! - Batwing Spaceshot: awesome! - Batman ride 2: meh to old but still 'ok' - Scooby Doo: awesome! - Wild West Falls: awesome! ps no chewing gum collection here - Lethel Weapon: good, not awesome. it actually does get lethel sometimes - Looney Tunes: great for kids need I say more? B) I agree dreamworld used to be by far the best, but honours clearly go to movieworld now. dreamworlds biggest mistake was making WWW..... they will never ever compete with wet n wild mainly because they have no more room to put rides Edited by Harrop

When I was there MW was in far better repair than DW, DW had the afformentioned chewing gum collections, litter lying around (and this is was in the morning so it would have had to be not cleaned from the previous day), bad paint jobs etc. Theres also other factors too, the food is better at MW, there is less blatant commercialisation (such as temporary stalls selling wax hands and tatoos, that RCT style hot dog stand, the main st water feature being used for model boats), MW runs their rides better and more efficently (maybe the reason you get the rides done so fast at MW is because you arent spending so much time stuck in queues like you would at DW), and of course there is the whole theming thing which MW excells in. And for me MW was a full day for me, rides like SDSC and SE are very re-rideable. Edited by Gazza

I agree with your post regarding Dreamworld. I've never understood how people can like it SO much more than Movie World. However I totally disagree with your comment about WWW. It is a top notch waterpark even in its current state plus it is only aiming to attract about half as many people as WnW at the moment. And yes they do have room for new rides they have already announced they will consider expanding into the current staff car park area

Dreamworld has Big brother therefore it is better than Movieworld! Besides from that, way more selection of rides!! MV has like 6 rides total practically. It's something I'd do once every like 5 years. Dreamworld I do all the time, and I never get tired of the giant drop, scary every time! :D

Well, i guess it comes down to quality over quantity which is why I prefer MW. DW does indeed have more rides, but most of them are flat rides which I'm not really in to, i like the full on experiences MW does. And for the record, I have no interest in BB so that isn't an important factor for me, that and the fact you cant ride on BB :P Its locked up half the time for filming and you cant even get anywhere near, and while they do have house tours I dont find them paticularly interesting. If I wanted to walk around a modern house and not be allowed to touch stuff I would go to a display home village.

Harrop, you have no proper evidence. An opinion from some coaster nerd about rides being "BoRiiiNNg11!11" is NOT evidence. Dreamworld has been falling behind in the last year because of the owners are focussing on WWW. I'm sure we will see Dreamworld get back to its previous state soon. Also, WWW does have room to expand, and it isn't just the car park. They can move a side road and build on that area. They have a lot of space. Dreamworld is still raking in thousands by thousands of guests. They have rides that no other parks have. Also, the Cyclone is a good rollercoaster - it is the largest looping coaster in the southern hemisphere. Nick Central is more entertaining than Looney Tunes - ask my 11 Year old brother.

http://tinyurl.com/yklybu Now that has been said, does anyone know what the cause of the closure is or is it still in the undecided category. It has been down now for quite some time hopefully it does not get removed unless it is being replaced with something worthy of the space that it occupies. I was most disappointed that it was not running last time I was there as it is a great ride.

I'd rather ride TOT 1000 times then go on batman adventure once! It's so bloody boring and kinda rough and you should check WWF more closely for chewing gum. I'd rather spend a week at dreamworld then 2 days at movieworld because movieworld is so boring.
Well i dunno about that. But DW would get my preference over MW anyday.

Well the cyclone is boring...... I see people say that all over the forums! And when you comapre it to lethal/superman it just cant compete! Dreamworld used to be the best by far but there rides are just too old now. I would have picked dreamworld over movieworld anyday but movieworld is just so much better then dreamworld now. BTW I have annual passes for both dreamworld and movieworld. Movieworld has less rides yes, but I would prefer to go on fewer rides that are quality, then lots of rides which arent that fun. They really need a new coaster.

What a biased opinion you have. You call all the movieworld rides awesome and label all the dreamworld rides as only good at best or boring. You say that the spaceshot is awesome and then you say that the GD is only a good ride when w'ere comparing a pretty average spaceshot to the worlds highest drop tower! TOT was once the fastest ride in the world and you say it is only and okay ride.
