downunder196 48 Report post Posted July 15, 2014 With the EKKA beginning in Brisbane beginning in just over three weeks what rides do you think will be new and which won't make another appearance at this years show? Also, has been everyone's favourite ride there in the past (or any traveling ride in Australia)? Mine would be between Extreme Speed, XXXL and the Top Scan. Reanimated35 3,484 Report post Posted July 15, 2014 (edited) TBH I couldn't care less about going on the rides. I'm considering taking my tripod along and getting some shots of the rides at night though. Speaking of rides, unless I'm reading this wrong, for them to bring the Taipan (ex-seaworld coaster) the ride owner has to pay around $20,000. No wonder it's around $10/ride. ~2000 rides just to break even on the fee to arrive. Fee per lineal metre ($) GST inclusive (Fees subject to change) Ride – Main $1, 380 Edited July 15, 2014 by reanimated35
Santa07 1,021 Report post Posted July 15, 2014 haven't been to the ekka for years. xxxl is one of my favourites
MaxxTheMonster 473 Report post Posted July 16, 2014 Go every year and the only ride we seek out is the Breakdance... for my wife... Apparently Airmaxx 260, Extreme, Pirates Revenge and Fungee Bungee will be there... They used to list the rides on their website but no specific information at this time. liz.wis 94 Report post Posted July 16, 2014 Despite having always lived in Brisbane, I've only been to the Ekka 5 times in the last thirty-something years, and not at all since the mid 90s. I am somewhat thinking about it for this year. I don't actually ever recall going on any rides.

No wonder it's around $10/ride. ~2000 rides just to break even on the fee to arrive. Some long exposures with carny rides at night make interesting light patterns. I caught extreme speed one year at LPS, and it's light array made one heck of a photo. It sounds quite prohibitive... I do know on the few occasions i've seen taipan it is normally either right at the bottom of a section or it is slotted in behind concessions skill games. I would imagine for something that has such a large footprint the RNA might offer something of a discount on floor space. I'm thinking that because it's done per lineal metre, it's the frontage that counts - so if they angle it right, and give space in front of them for other outlets etc, they may only incur the cost of the frontage for the stationhouse area... Adventures With JWorld 1,164 Report post Posted July 16, 2014 Ekka- has Spin 'n' Spews Dreamworld- has Spin 'n' Spews Why go to the Ekka when you can go to a park with less Spin 'n' Spews, turbines, dirty rivers, old rottend rides and you have a laser tag as well! pin142 737 Report post Posted July 16, 2014 Because when you are paying around $10 to experience each spin and spew you appreciate it more!

downunder196 48 Report post Posted July 18, 2014 Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Freak Out basically a newer version of Hard Rock and what's the difference between Speed 2 and Freestyle?

Tim Dasco 649 Report post Posted July 18, 2014 speed & speed are the same i think.
Reanimated35 3,484 Report post Posted July 18, 2014 I assume you mean speed2 and freestyle. I can't help but think surely some of these are accidentally added twice. It makes sense to have multiple dodgems but that's it.
Tim Dasco 649 Report post Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) I meant speed 2 and the original speed.(Both owned by Goldenway) Does anyone know what happened with the original speed. A lot of shows have more than one of the same ride dodgems, ghost trains, simulators(show has 2) & yes some shows have freestyle and speed. pin142 737 Report post Posted July 18, 2014 Dodgem Cars: Price: $10 Seriously? I expected rides to be expensive but that is just crazy! Reminded again why it has been years since I have been to the Royal Queensland Show (Sorry, but the term "EKKA" is a strange and odd one, guess "exhibition" is too big of a word for the locals to pronounce).
downunder196 48 Report post Posted July 18, 2014 All the other dodgem cars are $8 which is still pretty ridiculous.
downunder196 48 Report post Posted July 19, 2014 Does anyone here share the opinion that just maybe with the introduction of Freestyle the two rides might decrease in price slightly to compete with each other? From memory the original Speed ride still travels but they made Speed 2 so they could cover more shows around Australia. I think but I'm not sure.
Reanimated35 3,484 Report post Posted August 9, 2014 Went to the Ekka tonight. Not a bad show but there's a lot missing from previous years. Anyway, here's one of the photos. I took a total of 275, 5 turned out reasonably well.
