  2. New construction wall art has been put up (currently behind the Flash construction wall) The rainbow arches seen in the concept art are now off site (Paradise Country road, bad photo and look better in person) Jaggs also posted a couple of aerial shots in his latest update

  4. Photos from today: Framework has begun going up for the building that’ll enclose roughly half of Jungle Rush’s layout. Look into the (gutted) inside of Billabong: And, the supports: I don’t know what the status of the turntable at Vekoma’s workshop is, but there are visible tags on the shipment that read ‘Platform Supports’, and that tied with the catwalks, and shape of some support columns, has me guessing these are for it.

  5. Is this the part where we are meant to accept that all these ride closure's are ok and if we argue with you then to start saying we are Village haters. its bs MW is a shit hole at the moment and your off your head if you think its acceptable to run a theme park in its current state.

  6. In all honesty, I don't know why parks target openings to occur bang on peak periods. There are inevitably teething issues and the ride's reputation is made or broken in that first peak rush. Open it in the off season, give your operators time to bed down the processes without a 3 hour queue of angry families behind them, and iron out the kinks. Advertise the hell out of it and get soundbytes and reviews from real actual guests, rather than stupid rhetoric from the C Suite for your marketing - anyone planning a last minute trip for the next holidays might see that and decide to go as a result.

  7. I beg to differ. I've been going to the park for 'decades' and It's never been as bad as what it has been now and in the past couple of years.

  8. Wrong. 100% wrong. At the most they would only ever want to have 2 majors at a time closed unless something ever went wrong. The general schedule was: Lethal Weapon / Arkham (After Aust day till early March) > Superman / Batwing (Early march till Easter holidays) > Scooby and RoadRunner after easter holidays > Wild West Falls from June till around August in prep for holidays. Then it would be Tunes / Batride between September and November. After November they would try to have all rides open and getting ready for the xmas holidays. Obviously with more rides sometimes a weekend (or maybe a single week with 3 rides closed) did happen but it was really avoided as much as possible. Only in the last 4-5 years have we really seen this many closures happening on a regular and it's 100% not acceptable. I really think at this stage, the park would be better running weekends and holidays only until they can catch up on things as it's absolutely pathetic the way the place is being ran.

  9. Let me help you out, with a repost of the GIF I made last year. So if you board the forward facing train. Green & blue sections of track = travel forward. Red section = backwards. If you board the backwards facing train. You will experience green & blue sections = backwards. red = forwards. I hope that helps?

  11. Let me get this straight - major rides are having rides built right next door, or within them, every winter? No. I'm sorry, but when your headlining (only) attractions are Roxy, Green Lantern and Justice League - you probably shouldn't be open.

  16. They should be. We know its a relocation and it isn't all that, but they're doing something (albeit it seems to have run into it's fair share of road blocks along the way) and the focus on BTS content and construction updates and the like isn't something we've seen a lot of from our parks before. I don't want to pour shit on the effort because honestly I want it to continue...

  17. I'm not surprised you're into it. Common misconception in the marketing community. Marketing exists to serve the business (in this case by driving attendance), not just numbers for the sake of the marketers.

  18. I don't post/comment loads here - but my two cents as a marketer (currently a Marketing Coordinator). I follow Dreamworld on IG and I have been LOVING their posts. Sure, it's a little cringe. But it's also fun and engaging, and it's making me laugh. And the point of social media marketing is to boost engagement and brand awareness. When I saw these posts, I immediately showed my husband! Far too many businesses these days are having very corporate looking social media profiles (especially IG) and that was never the point of these types of socials - I really enjoy seeing more businesses step out of the corporate box and have more fun, engaging content!

  19. If you have less than half the park open, with presumably less than half the operating costs (ride wear and tear and staff) - either charge half price or offer a free return within the next 12 months.

  23. I think that's the point though now isn't it. I just saw these photos on Facebook and thought to myself "oh well guess the lighting package for Flash is revealed...I'll go see what Parkz thinks" and sure enough exactly what I expected. Instead of a happy response to the fact it has lights, it's some post saying how 'oh it's Movie World clearly this is an awful idea and they are going to make it look terrible.' But no actually, it's for a special occasion and that's cool. You want to see terrible, go look at that bloody awful lighting on the Wave Swinger up the street, truely vomit inducing and that's the permanent scheme they've chosen! The last attraction Village Built was Leviathan and I might be biassed, however worldwide knowledgable people have said it's world class level (not just Village marketing dept). So why would their next thing suddenly assumed to be awful? Because everything is automatically bad because you don't like the CEO right? If Leviathan was lit up Rainbow for a special awareness thing I would think that was awesome. From what I understand the Park are doing all the lighting for Flash themselves in house and if this is the result (along with the sign) then how great! This whole Movie World is Evil and Dreamworld is the land of the gods just has to stop, each has good and bad points when you look at them objectively. Funnily enough the first lights for Wizard of Oz arrived in the country today, I look forward to coming back in a few months and finding out why they are awful too 😛

  29. I’ve spoken to a few staff members and people in the management team and they’ve agreed that they want to replace the SV facade and reinstate something that’s more fitting with Main Street, but it isn’t high up on the list in comparison to other things throughout the park. Because as you say, it doesn’t make financial sense right now.

  30. Looks great. One day they'll have some capex to redo the Sky Voyager facade and there will be much rejoicing from enthusiasts.

  31. We are planning a trip this year and the one thing we have learned is that you need to plan and research a LOT. I'm hearing you about it not being a park trip, so while it'll be hard for most folk here to not fall back to 'do this park too!' i'll try and balance things out a bit... First, a couple of things to echo - if you do Disney, DisneySea should be the priority. You should still spend 2 days there minimum, but if you only have one, spend it at Sea. We have 3 weeks, and we've already put down 2 days in each park. But don't not go just because people have said you need more time there. A little time is enough to show you if those people were right, and whether you want to go back again later for a better experience. Be prepared to be flexible. A lot of things sell out early (including express passes) and in Disney's case - vacation package guests, and then hotel guests, get first dibs on pretty much everything. A lot can be sold out so have alternative options if something isn't available. Know the dates things are made available - As an example, Universal passes are dropped around 2 months out. Disney usually drops hotels & vacation packages 3 months out, but in our case they dropped the packages early due to the opening of fantasy springs. This sort of thing drops at a set time of day, and some of the websites drop from too much traffic \ place you in a queue. (We waited in the queue for 11 hours to secure a Fantasy Springs package, but that's not the average experience). Even experiences like Shibuya Sky, some of the Team Lab experiences drop tickets a certain time out, and there is a rush to get all the best spots early. You might still find tickets closer to the day, but they may not be at an ideal time and you'll find yourself compromising things if you haven't planned. ESPECIALLY because you're planning to go in Sakura season - you should get a good idea of your itinerary NOW and so that you're ready to book accommodations as soon as they're available for your dates (usually 12 months out). You'll also want to be researching all of the attractions you want to do, though with two years before you go there are going to be plenty of changes in that time, so again, be flexible) Transport. iPhones these days can add an IC card like Suica for general public transport. If you're doing a lot of back and forth between cities, consider whether the JR pass will work, but note that it had a huge price increase last year and you really have to do a lot of long distance shinkansen to make it worthwhile. We're hitting Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Nara, Nagoya, Hakone and then back to Tokyo, so for us it works - but if you're just hitting the golden triangle, (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto) it generally isn't worth it. Many of our stops don't include parks, so may be closer to the itinerary you're looking for. Youtube is your best friend. The amount of things we've found, learned and researched by watching youtube is mind blowing. There is so much to learn, and we're still making tweaks to our itinerary based on updated info from the latest videos. We've watched a lot of different channels, but the ones that ended up in our subs were: For the bigger parks, TDR Explorer is really informative. For getting around (especially as a family), Kensho Quest has been really good For just seeing what a place \ attraction looks like without much waffle, channels like ITSUKA JAPAN provide walkthroughs Americans documenting their travels (which is great as you learn lessons from them as a result) check out Ordinary Adventures or Tales from our Pocket Hints and tips about everything japan from a local guy starting his own tour guide \ travel company - HARBLIFE Hints and tips about everything japan from a local - TOKYO KENCHAN Hints and tips about everything japan from an american guy who does travel videos everywhere - YELLOW PRODUCTIONS Good japanese advice from a westerner (UK) living and working in japan (but mixed in with silly video collaborations made with friends - Abroad in Japan (he's also written several books under the same name)

  32. @Brad2912 it’s for autism awareness month, so it doesn’t isn’t yuck. If they used this day to day, then maybe, but for raising awareness ‘yuck’ shouldn’t be the word used. But this shows the capability of the lighting package for the ride and I think they could do some really cool stuff if they just mixed red and yellow for this. And good on the park for investing in a lighting package for the ride, something they’ve only ever done for Rivals at the park

  33. It’s been lit like this for Autism QLD Day… just drove past and it’s lit up Red and Yellow now. Looks cool with Green Lantern, Rivals all lit up at night! Well done to the AV team, wonder what it will do when the ride is operating?

  36. Word is they want it open, but they’re ‘waiting on insurance’. If that is the case, and it continues to take longer than expected, I reckon they should make that clear & have it closed with no known reopen, instead of delaying dates like other parks do/have done.

  37. Just came across this video from Mitty Theme Parks showing the land has already been demolished to make way for the lazy river and dodgems. I believe the park is now closed for the cooler season, so we probably want see anything until the area is complete when the park reopens.

  38. This comment seems to have slipped under the radar, but it answers the question about staff operating seat belts. So thanks @mba2012 for getting it right. If the seat belt is fastened and the strap tightened, it interferes with the push/pull procedure, where the 'pull' is just testing the tension of the seat belt, not the primary restraint. If there is a hydraulic/ratchet restraint failure in such a scenario it wouldn't be detected, and the seat belt would be the only restraint with no redundancy. The safety standards and codes that govern Amusement rides aren't just for parks. They're also for traveling rides that experience wear/tear/damage in setup/pack down and transport. It's one set of rules for every operator and every ride. So while it's highly unlikely a ride like Rivals or ST would need a seat belt, people can and have been ejected from traveling rides, and severely injured or killed. Even a ride as mild as TRRR was able to fail in a deadly way, GL also failed in a way that could have been deadly - different rides, different parks, different reasons for failure. Every safety standard is written is someone else's blood. Unlikely things happen. Operations are never slower because of safety, they are the correct speed to safely operate the ride. At Village parks, operations are slower because of corporate culture, under-staffing and, in some cases, poor station design. Removing the current locker system at SE won't speed up operations. It will just move all of the pocket checks to the front of the queue. SE pulls strong forces where riders are seated with their knees above their hips, which means anything in your pockets will fall out - potentially onto people in the paths below. So while you could have a better loose article system at the station, guests cannot be trusted to actually empty their pockets or understand the potential consequences of not doing so. For that reason, the park is not likely to change the current station or procedures.

  39. It's not about productivity. I really don't understand how you're still beating this dead horse? People are fine with closures in off season, it happens. The issue is closures in off season is normally 2, but max 3 majors at a time. Not SIX. This is like going to timezone, loading up a 2 hour unlimited game card and then finding out that all they have is whack a mole and ski ball. It doesn't matter that it's midweek outside of school holidays. This is going to KFC and they tell you they're out of chicken after you order and pay for your meal. It doesn't matter that its 11am on a wednesday This is going to the Cinema to see Sound Of Music, but all the songs have been edited out. It doesn't matter that its cheap tuesday's morning session This is having a round of golf, but 12 holes on the course are closed for groundworks. It doesn't matter that it's cricket season. How many others can the rest of the forum come up with to try and explain this to you? It's a poor offering. All of the recent google reviews on the park are demonstrating the park is not meeting a minimum expectation. It's not acceptable, and you should feel bad for trying to excuse the poor experience as "those people who were disappointed should have known that they'd have over 70% of their rides down for maintenance"

  40. Where have I seen that image before… Oh, yeah!

  41. oh fuck off. You're the first one to come on here and complain about how slow operations are, and how much faster they could be if they just copied *insert overseas park \ ride example here* with complete disregard for whatever possible regional differences in law and compliance they may be impacted by, and then in the next breath make suggestions that would demonstrably slow down operations even further. I've been on Electric Eel and that station is PACKED with staff. The park has more than double the annual attendance and a comparable ticket price, and lower wages make it easier to staff operations positions. Go back to spinning your little turnstile.

  42. I personally do not see a point in replacing the facade. Why spend all that money with no gain? Nobody would go just because of a new facade. You would also need to retheme the entire queue which would cost a lot of money.

  43. That would just create a ridiculous shit storm, and i'd hate to be the ride attendant telling someone hey i know the guy before you got these seats for $10 each, but you have to pay $20, unless you go back and wait for 9 more people to purchase. Way too convoluted

  46. Movie World have shared another update for the ride stating testing has been happening with Intamin, and after their inspections and testing, they will hand the ride over to the parks engineering team to commence their commissioning which includes the addition of harnesses and seats.
