  1. It wouldn't be Parkz if we didn't have people lording insider information over others, only contributing it when they think their authority might be challenged, would it?

  2. They are wrong, Blue Fire is superb.

  3. But they spaced out their floats better and have different lighting displays in scooby now! Why do you have to nitpick?

  4. isn't that what they did with wipeout? isn't that why they announced TOT closure in advance, so people could get one last ride? isn't that a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't, and won't make people happy no matter what, so you do the best you can by listening to all the feedback, positive and negative, and do your best to fix up the little things like bins in the... nevermind.

  5. 4 rides on Scooby this afternoon and I can say, having seen what seemed to be unique/different lighting sequences on each ride, that the disco room itself hasn’t been better than it is now

  6. I’ve heard through a reliable source that 2020 will be the year for WnW GC. With possible slide refurbishments, relocations and one (maybe even two) new attractions. Multiple locations within the park are being explored (Buggy’s, Mach 5, Behind Block Hole). I would at least hope to see Mach 5 removed, with a replacement attraction and some slide refurbs (River rapids, Aqualoop, Constrictor, Tornado). After WWWs big investments last year, I hope that is a wake up call for VRTP to invest into the park properly.

  7. Hang on... Rivals and Superman closed at the same time? I feel bad for guest services staff already.

  8. Well at least it shows Arkham asylum getting more maintenance this year after current period. Hopefully she reopens soon and has many more years left before they retire her.

  9. Isn't this a case where the middle way might be the answer? SDSCNG has received some attention since the relaunch which has been great to see. The Disco Room looks better than I have ever seen and small adjustments have been made to the first few scenes. Yet, there are still issues with the experience. Waiting in the hot sun isn't very pleasant, especially when you enter to realise that half the space is partially unused. The queue and station atmosphere are shadows of their former selves. The ride is improving and evolving, which is great to see, but there is still more to go. Call me the King of Kumbaya, but I think we should call it how it is and acknowledge that it's great to see change and what can still be improved. This is a cycle that will never end; There will always be a way to push it further. Should we all take a bite of the feedback sandwich?

  10. I have talked to many friends who are outside of the enthusiast community and still call rivals "the joker coaster" They asked me what was happening with Scooby not long ago because it's been all over the place the last few years. One of their biggest concerns was that they had to queue outside because half of the inside is blocked off with no clear reasoning. They asked a staff member and were simply told "we can't use that side anymore" and that's all. Even though the ride has received some of it's themeing back after being a shell for so long, I still get asked if it's closing because it's so inconsistent and nowhere near what it used to be. So it's definitely not just "entitled enthusiasts wearing rose glasses" who are noticing these things. I don't think these people could be any more part of the general public if they tried.

  11. You agreed the projection spaces were shit. You then said everything was back as it was. I pointed out things that weren't back as they were. combined, those things plus the projections, if I haven't covered 100% of what's in the ghost train section, it's pretty damn close to it. The queue house is still 'empty warehouse' - the firepots where the queue enters the narrow hallway are broken, the fountain isn't fountaining, nor is it fogging\misting\steaming. hell, one of the lights that light the gargoyles is currently floating upside down. The station lighting is constant, but i'll buy that one as fire safety, but there's no lightning cracks and accompanying sound effects, and the windows on the opposite side of the station no longer flicker with lightning either. there is tremendous sound bleed from the effects in the ghost train section coming into the station which never used to happen, presumably because the station used to have much louder ambient noise like wind and lightning that are now missing. You can call it nitpicks, and in isolation, each one of them is. But small hills make mountains, and yes - from the outdoor queue tape right up to the reverse drop at the top of the elevator, its still a pile of shit. I agreed it wasn't a steaming one didn't i? Disco room is looking much better. i'd have loved the original green lasers bouncing off the mirrors, but i get that the original laser design isn't easily replicated, and what's there is looking much better than what it was 12 months ago. the 'final drop' room is nice (I miss the fakeout laser drop, but what can you do) and the Tiki screen in the brake run approaching the exit station and associated paraphernalia is good too - so yes, from the reverse drop to unload looks great, and load to elevator looks shit. ...so it's half a pile of shit? can we meet in the middle? I'm certainly not crying wolf. This is genuine critique. fine, it might be insignificant in your eye, but perhaps that sort of attitude is why MW's standards have slipped? because nobody cares about the small stuff and they think guests shouldn't care either? I'm not trying to be argumentative or antagonistic - i genuinely care, and I remember a time when the park cared about things like taking down the christmas lights. preserving the illusions that a 'movie world' was supposed to create.

  12. Are you basing your assessment of this ride on any in-depth mechanical, engineering, or maintenance experience from working at Movie World? Or are you just going off the fact that others have said it's nearing end of life? Or perhaps on the recent end of life closures for Sea Viper, Wipeout and Tower of Terror? Arkham Asylum opened in December 1995 - its currently 25 years old. There are 50 Vekoma SLC models listed in RCDB, (8 of which are relocations) First up - Sea Viper. Opened in December 1981, it closed in 2014. That's 33 years. If you're using this metric, we've still got the best part of the next decade to enjoy Arkham. Wipeout - the Waikiki Wave Super Flip (another vekoma, by the way) - only 7 in the world, and a very different ride system to a coaster. I believe the last two surviving models - Wipeout, and Huracan at Six Flags Mexico both closed in 2019, indicative that they had definitely reached end of life. Arkham does not necessarily fit that description at this time. Tower of Terror - by all accounts the ride system was end of life. Magic Mountain's Superman version received an upgrade to the launch system about a decade ago, and from what I understand, they're currently cannibalising ToT for any parts they can make use of, as Intamin doesn't support the ride system anymore (and why not, when its 23 years old, and has only two installations in the world). None of these points apply to the SLC. Of the 42 models in existence, only 2 are not operating - one in South Africa which stopped operations in May 2018, and one in Suzhou China, which stopped in October 2017. The most recent (new) installs appears to be Energylandia, opening in September 2015, and Sun World Danang in Vietnam which opened in January 2017. Along with the Boomerang, the SLC is one of the most prolific of Vekoma's coasters. Parts and equipment clearly will continue to be available so long as Vekoma continues to sell the model or variant to the market, so it will not suffer from the issues that Wipeout or ToT have. It will come down to when parts are no longer financially viable. The ride is still insanely popular, and so long as it remains popular, the park will continue to invest in parts and maintenance so long as it is financially viable to do so. I think it will probably come down to if the rolling stock \ hangers suffer issues as that would possibly be the most expensive cost to keep it running, but given they have parts available (due to the "purple" train cannibalisation), and likely more than 42 other train assemblies out there in the world, acquiring even those parts wouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker. It may very well turn out that there is an insurmountable issue in the future, but to be claiming its deteriorating rapidly is ridiculous (unless you have actual, tangible evidence to the contrary), especially when you compare to other ride models from Vekoma - such as our own Titan\Demon\Zoomerang (the boomerang from World expo, that moved to Wonderland Sydney, then Alabama, then India) that keeps on kicking despite being 7-8 years older, and being relocated 3 times

  13. While I do agree that space will be ripe for the next major development at the park, and hopefully when they do, they'll incorporate pathways from WWF to Superman via scooby into the mix, but I disagree with the hate for SLCs. Sure, they have a reputation, but Arkham is by all accounts one of the better SLCs out there, especially with the newer train \ restraints. I do hope the old girl still has some life left. The park can't afford another major just yet, and losing Arkham will leave a large hole in the park's lineup.

  24. This is the second time the folks in Queanbeyan have tried to sell these. I can't imagine they're usable, so they'd be no more than a collector's item, and they're quite bulky to move - making the purchase for an individual collector a difficult but not insurmountable one. I guess he's trying his luck again...

  26. Green lantern is apparently being repainted, so it probably explains the long closure. I cant remember ever seen the arms come off doomsday during annual maintenance? I wonder how long they have on the transmission/gearbox between overhauls as the ride would be roughly 4 years old when it goes down for maintenance.

  27. A number of rides seem to have lengthy maintenance windows this year. I guess it helps keep costs down in the off season... 😉
