  1. What I see as someone not associated with the parks at all is a park doing its best to rebuild after horrendous neglect resulting in the death of guests .... And a park in cruise control with dilapidated surroundings with no love or care for the guest experience. It's my opinion and I know I'll hear shouts of 'dw fanboy'.. but as a complete outsider with no ties to either venues all I can say - dreamworld deserves the praise it's been getting and Movieworld needs to stop taking its guests for granted. Dreamworld is screaming at me 'look we are putting in the effort'. Movieworlds just like 'hey we didn't kill anyone - come on in ya suckers' IMO

  2. I get your frustration and it's valid considering that no place of discussion wants such a watered down conversational atmosphere. I feel there's always going to be some sort of friction when it comes to a shift in ideas thanks to opinion inertia. It's genuinely difficult to reflect on the positive progress of Movie World and see them start to falter, whilst on the other hand I can understand why people who reflect on Dreamworld being a dumpster fire for the past decade are confused as to why they're suddenly experiencing praise. As you said, many of these things happen on their own and not just in the context of Movie World vs Dreamworld, but a lot of people don't see it as such and instead see an opportunity to point fingers, pass blame, and provide excuses. When I did my trip report about my Gold Coast trip in January I was conscious of not making any comparisons between the different properties, and instead just outlined my opinions and thoughts over the couple of days, but suddenly it became a Dreamworld VS Movie World thread surprisingly thanks to a community leader saying that Movie World's faults were the direct cause of Dreamworld's actions which left the conversation to the discuss the narrative instead of the content provided. Honestly I believe the issue exists because it's an easy out for both sides of the argument to ignore the problems and issue presented and instead pass the buck or gaslight the other into believing that their opinion is wrong. This is a hard problem to fix, but it comes down to whether posters are more interested in having a discussion, or simply being right. Also despite addressing your apathy towards the Dreamworld Vs Movie World discussion, whilst I've written this you've made several attempts to continue it. Seriously, be the change you want to see or stop complaining about it.

  3. Honestly, and maybe I am wrong, but I've always considered the 'world class' thing to be more of a joke than anything else because it lost all meaning after being used for the umpteenth million time. I doubt that anybody is actually crying foul because of the usage of the word and more so just making a mockery of it, similar to how many make light of the fact that Leviathan is advertised as 'World’s greatest family rollercoaster'. It's all puffery at the end of the day. But for arguments sake, I think the difference in your comparison is that the examples you included are referring to a 'World Class supplier' and 'world-class tourism infrastructure asset' respectively, unlike Movie World which has 'Australia's #1 Theme Park' flat front and center on their website as well as Sea World having 'Australia #1 Marine Park'. I think it does deserve some criticism when they fall short of their brand's hero message and identity. I'm one of the many that will happily agree that our theme parks fall short in all regards when compared to the world stage. PhantasiaLand is a great example because VRTP absolutely wipes the floor with them in terms of attendance, yet Phantasia turns around and laughs by creating groundbreaking, legitimate world-class products with seemingly relative ease. This has a bit to do with geography, and I discuss it further here, but because of this I don't think it's unreasonable for people to criticize the presentation and business practices of what is advertised as Australia's #1 theme park. I'm in the privileged position of having visited many theme parks around the world and my bar is pretty darn high when it comes to actually impressing me, but my metric of success as a guest comes down to something fairly simple; how successfully does a park utilise what is readily available to them to improve the guest experience? And with this in mind, I just don't believe that Movie World at the moment are successfully utilising their available resources. They are performing lots of big picture refurbishments and it's clear that they're considerate of their brand and image with things such as the Royal Caribbean deal to get guests through the gate, but once you're through those gates is when they start failing in many regards on the smaller stuff. It would be fine if it was some things here and there, but this thread alone shows that it's obvious that its not. The guest experience is suffering, and you can't ignore that for very long when you're main revenue opportunity is convincing the public to enter your premium gated venue. With their neglect towards internal presentation and a further shift towards predatory purchasing practices, are they making more money than usual? Probably! But so is Disney World, and look how their lack of focus on the guest experience is going for them in terms of public perception. The benefit for Movie World is that with my metric of success it's very easy for them to turn the situation around by placing that focus back on the guest experience, which is also why it's so disappointing that they aren't doing this already.

  4. Can't help but agree that some new flats are needed. There's not a huge amount of space in that area (surprisingly) but if you had all the money you'd have to remove all 3 of those rides that date back to the 90s and start again. A couple kiddie flat rides and a couple family flatrides would go a treat. EDIT: Havent done this in a while, but bored with a random 10mins so here's some free concepts: Sky race themed to Marvin the Martian Tea Cups themed to Granny/tweety. Barnyard themed to Tazzie Devil Midi Wave Swinger themed to all the rest. 'Looney' Swing decorated with all the racially sensitive characters in the back catalogue.

  5. Yeah all the eyewitness accounts and news reports were that he stood up and got smacked in the head when the 'horse' rose up to the top of the ride. 100% recklessness on his part and as a 12 year old he was probably goofing off. I have nothing to back this up but i'll bet he was in-park with a bunch of mates, let loose by parents who dropped him at the gate, and they were all gee-ing each other up to do stupid shit. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

  6. That's just it though, isn't it - they aren't maintaining and running any of them 'smoothly' - although I guess that depends on what your expectations are... On almost every recent visit i've made to Sea World, Jet Rescue was down for maintenance, or down unscheduled. Storm was literally the only attraction at the park worth my time. Sea World has been death by a thousand cuts, and the fact that their new flagship has been delayed by almost 2 years with little word from the park hasn't helped them. Simultaneously taking things away like Waterpark, Monorail... WnW might have 'new shiny thing' but that's also been up and down like a yoyo since opening for certain issues, plus the white elephant zip lines, and rarely operated sky coaster, or the never opened and two year delayed surf rider. Tell me again how Movie World is the only park in a shambles? (Dreamworld also has had a shit run, I don't see a need to regurgitate it here when the focus is MW, but suffice to say, they're all doing pretty shit right now)

  7. The Earth curves about 8 inches per mile. As a result, on a flat surface with your eyes 5 feet or so off the ground, the farthest edge that you can see is about 3 miles away.

  8. if they were in a bad financial situation, they wouldn’t have been able to refurbish both road runner and WWF at the same time, build WNW’s new slide complex, introduce the new animal experiences to paradise country, refurbish Surfrider (even if it still isn’t open yet) or introduce new events such as Hooray for Hollywood. This also doesn't make sense as their other properties aren’t being run nearly as bad as MW. When dreamworld was declining, they copped a lot more and they weren’t cut any slack or had excuses made for them, so why isn’t it the same now they’ve swapped places?

  9. Its a federal election and this is a state based decision. And the target was always 90% so…

  13. You know what's more annoying than reading a biased opinion? Reading people getting told what they should think and say.

  14. I know you started typing this before I made my edits above, but ill counter by saying: The only tea cups on the Coast is the kiddie one at DW which no offence to DW - as much as I dont like them I think super small kiddie rides do have a place - that ride wouldn't look out of place at Westfeild. It's like saying no to a Ferris wheel because DW already have one. I think the next model up is a decent choice. Good capacity, broad appeal, good clean fun.

  15. All 3 parks have closed their carousels which sadly makes sense. They all look to be basically the same model.

  16. out of the 4 rides open in that area, Speedy Gonzales’ Tijuana taxis is useless with JDS next door, replacing Speedy Gonzales with 2 new smaller kids rides while also adding a mini drop tower (similar to bombora bounce -aussie word) where the old pounce n bounce was (or maybe in roadrunners footprint using the ‘observation area’ as a queue line) would make the area so much more lively and better overall.

  18. With the carousel closed and Pounce n Bounce gone, the kids area is now in a truly sorry state. Why they haven't put in another couple of rides by now, I don't understand (I mean I'm guessing it's money but you know - choices)

  19. It just gets a bit tedious ya know? 'This is why things are a bit crap at MW right now' 'Grrr where was this sensible explanation with DW?'. Like far out things happen on their own, not just in the context of MW v DW. Both operators have pros and cons. Some pros are bigger than others and some cons are bigger than others. Everyone's shit stinks, that's the way it's always been and the way it always will be.

  20. There have been literal wars waged with countless lives lost through the centuries because two groups disagree on what invisible super power told by some bloke in a really old book is the best. I don't get how people can be continually gobsmacked by bias affecting this forum's discourse when the focus is on the Gold Coast where there are literally two operators to choose from. Maybe three if you include King Tut's Putt Putt.

  21. Ok, just remember the target was 70%, than 80%, now 90%. And now Thursday next week the unvaxxed can go anywhere. This is nothing to do with health. And there is an election coming up.
