Wizard of Oz is timeless. if you have not seen it, your parents failed you by not introducing you to it. If despite that failure you still haven’t sought it out yourself, then you can’t be helped10 points

I had planned to reply to a whole bunch of posts above, with rebuttals to each, but this is all that needs to be said. You can't fix 10+ years of poor management and bad decisions overnight. You also can't point to board members who have sat for the past 6 years when many of those board members have relied on CEOs and similar to inform them of the best direction to go in. Ride removals - may not be the decision we'd all like, but the neglect of the management prior to TRRR made it the only option. Loss of IP - if you've got a choice between renewing a 10 year old licence, or building an entirely new land \ attraction group - what's going to give you the boost? New Dreamworks might have given a 20% bump, but 10 year old renewed dreamworks won't. If you've got a limited pile of money, you'd put it towards something new, rather than keep old things going without getting additional value out of it - see also: tower of terror. The simple fact is the current set up is likely to turn the park around, and as their forward planning starts to bear fruit, momentum will build. They've effectively started from scratch due to the poor planning of their predecessors with nothing in the cupboard to start from, so to point to early progress and say "Dreamworld = Bad" is misguided and shortsighted.3 points

Btw since this topic was originally dedicated to theme park worldwide. now that they have come and gone should we make a new topic for coaster studios?2 points

I reckon at that end it could have been a "Wild Asia" section that connected with Tiger Island. Chessington has something similar: I don't know about anyone else but I love the theming that was done for the revamped Tiger Island so would happily see more of that. So perhaps Serpent Slayer would have been done in a more stony colour, dodgems do a bit on them to make the Chinese buildings look older. And then the remainder of kids area can be ABC / Kenny / Belinda, that's fine.2 points

Realistically what IP could they license to rejuvenate the area? I have no doubt Universal was unwilling to renew the license, I don't think it was DW being cheap.2 points

Working at Luna Park as a ride op will forever be with me, however unfortunately short it was, I’m blessed to have had other opportunities open up that followed my degree and my dream future career, and that is the only reason I left. I can still feel the thrill of it, and making another person’s day THAT much better meant the world. Highly recommend a job at our wonderful Luna Park Sydney!2 points

Hi all, Just wanna let you all know that I’m now officially employed with Luna Park Sydney! I’ll be working in Head Office helping with Disability & Inclusion within the park starting next month. As somebody who’s experienced the highs and lows of someone with a disability, you should see over the next few months changes around the park to make it as accessible as possible. If you have any ideas, please do let me know and I’ll see what I can do. But enough with the boasting, let’s talk about the actual interview! Please note that this is as of November/December 2022. This was for casual roles within the park for the summer. That was my original intent until they offered it to me instead as it’d be more productive and less stressful. The activities and qualifications required may change in the future. So always read the fine detail and check with the park what’s required before arrival. For more fine detail, please also contact the park before you arrive. And please don’t rely on some squeaky teen online for all your information, I’ll only be talking broadly about what happens. I‘ve kept it as a secret until everything was set up with my new role, which happened yesterday. To apply, Luna Park normally announces the application a few weeks before the interviews, and those are just under a month before you start. You also need to be 16, make a resume, and have some form of ID on you, like a Passport, Drivers Licence, or Photo Card. Then you can apply online with a Google Questionnaire. There were 12,000 people that came to the interviews on 22/11 and 3/12/22. So it was very busy and they had to do it in a way to process as many people through as possible. So please be patient and if you require assistance, please contact them before arrival (but don’t worry if you forget, there are staff there to help). You might be able to bring someone to support you if you ask in advance. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a staff member who’ll direct you over to the Coney Island entrance and you’ll sign in at Hungry Horse. You’ll be assigned a number in order of arrival, remember this number as it’s important for later. You’ll be given free Popcorn and Fairy Floss while you wait. Your group will then get called and you’ll get sent to Crystal Palace. You’ll start at the Sunset Room and be greeted by staff and you’ll sit in front of the TV and be shown a tape which explains what all the roles mean and what it’s like working at the park. After this, you’ll have one of many opportunities to ask questions to the staff. The group will then split to 6 corners of the room depending on what you applied for. There’s Sideshow/Merchandising, Rides (18+, not for THAT kind of reason), Guest Relations/Ticketing, Cleaning, Venues, and Food & Beverages. You’ll then get a colour sticker on your tag distinguishing you for which role you’re applying for. You’ll then proceed to the ballroom by your number. You’ll be greeted with some music played by the managers. You’ll then be put in a circle where you’ll introduce each other and get to know each other and do some more dancing! And remember you’re doing it in front of just under 100 people! Surprisingly everybody made it through that. The only comment I’ll make is that I aced it (probably)! You’ll then be put in a line behind the wall by number and be sent upstairs where you’ll wait to get interviewed. The lower the number, the sooner the interview starts. See? That’s why it’s important to be early! After the interview, you can go on free rides on Dodgem City and Big Dipper over and over again! And maybe even see a TV show being made! If you got hired, you’ll have a training day about a week or two later and then start when the School Holidays start. Hope that this helps anybody applying to the park and I wish you all the best!2 points

I think what's weird about it is you've got ABC Kids land, and K&B Dreamland. Like two lands aimed at the same narrow group of guests next to each other. Dreamworks Skewed a bit older, so it's not like for like. Instead of K&B you put Bluey in as Part of the new ABC Kids World, lean into Tiger Island and the Asian theme being complementary and give the wider area a Wild Asia theme and it kind of works. I can see an argument for 'Change it doesn't remind people of what used to be there' but to me that makes more sense. One other thing I'd say is IP lives and dies by how good it is. You don't need to have seen a single Indiana Jones movie for the ride to be awesome, same with Scooby, same with Twilight Zone. When the IP is the springboard to make something good, then it doesn't matter what the IP is. When the IP is just a sticker that adds nothing then it's pointless. Mick Doohan and Hotwheels are both great examples of this and the park is much stronger for letting them go IMHO. The thing about K&B is that it kind of is an IP, just it's an internal one that no one is familiar with, certainly won't drive attendance. Are they being used to do something cool or is it a sticker? If it's a sticker, honesty you'd be better off calling everything from Escape to the F&B outlets 'Central Plaza' and just making stuff look charming. If there's a creative thing where it's K&B corner of the park and it's where they live like with gumtree houses or something to tie it together it could be good. I don't know what they have up their sleaves, it might be good. I'm also giving them the benefit of the doubt that Serpent Slayer isn't finished yet. That has more to do with being an eternal optimist rather than anything I've seen so far though.1 point

I am done.. your mind is made up and I respect your opinion. Everyone else seems to understand why they are doing it so I don’t really get why your fighting it. But you have one good point to make. Serpent slayer was not executed very well unfortunately. But the well done parent centre gives me a bit of hope.1 point

I’m honestly incredibly surprised a big IP like Bluey isn’t getting any representation in ABC Kids World. With the show being as popular as it is (both here and overseas) and with it being made and set in Southeast Queensland (heck, some of the show even takes place on the Gold Coast), I thought it would’ve been a slam dunk for Dreamworld. Considering there are many people of all ages who actively watch and enjoy Bluey, I reckon it would appeal to a much wider audience than you think. Then again, I guess all of Brisbane is truly the real Bluey theme park.1 point

If only DW had your number @Gazza Pushing Ocean Parade down to SS doesn't make one bit of sense.1 point

Nah Daddy Pig GigaCoaster, the first gigacoaster in the southern hemisphere and the world's most iconic coaster.1 point

You know moody isn't the opposite of being positive? @Guest 239DW's history after Longhurst is all about, DW losing money - cash injection - flipped. Unless somebody comes up with a real plan for DW, instead of thinking adding a couple of rides will fix DW each time, the will cycle will continue.1 point

Nah wouldn’t want to be positive.. not when being moody is cool..1 point

“Dreamworld’s being cheap” while investing $60m+ into the park over the next 2 years, with $35m of that going to one ride? make it make sense. People don’t go to Dreamworld for IP’s, that’s MovieWorld’s draw card. It seems like your only motive here is to bash Dreamworld, they do something positive and you twist it into negatives. you should find something better to do. nevermind, simulator. Dark Ride was the first thing that came to my mind.1 point

The BBC/Disney agreement is a distribution deal, they didn't buy Bluey.1 point

Name 1 family IP that will drive gate that’s not off limits for DW to license. I’m seriously struggling to think of one, they are pretty much all either owned by their competitors like Disney/Universal or Village at this point. I think they’ve done very well keeping ABC Kids and the Wiggles on board as is.1 point

Yeah I don't think Doomsday mentioned it's store during the initial announcements \ plans released. I think Merch is a given, and while I don't think we'll see a full counter service location with it's own kitchen, i think a bakery or something similar where products can be pre-prepared and then just final touches put on prior to service would be just peachy. I do think that the arkham queuehouse has a lot of space inside of it for them to fit in some amazing 'emerald city stores'. there's a difference between multibillion dollar attractions that our parks could simply never afford, versus producing a photogenic $7 pastry and a $12 loaded milkshake. Heck - if Betty's Burgers can do it, there's no excuse not to offer that sort of thing in today's IG world. Well grab hold of your ears so you can listen - A 10 year old IP (actually most of the properties are older than that) is not bringing anyone new to the park. Retaining it, at some unknown but likely stupidly high expense, at a time where the park is in flux, and needs it's money for reinvestment in things that will actively draw more guests to the park, it's a no brainer to drop the licence. On the other hand, a brand-new-land coming to a park that isn't struggling through a recovery, whose whole premise is 'movies' should be actively trying to theme this new land around a central idea - which they are doing - with a product that continues to be relevant, while economising by using IP that is out, or nearly out of copyright and therefore is likely to cost far less than sticking the latest superhero on it.1 point

In my opinion I love the idea of a Wizard of Oz themed land. It's a timeless classic watched by many generations and people still love it today. And it is also a break from DC themed lands (thank god). The theming also looks 100 times better than Arkham Asylum and will be one of the best themed lands of the park with Wild West Falls also close.1 point

It's always been a back-of-house tiger pen. Nothing more, nothing less. Keep in mind the cats were on a constant rotation program between pens, the island, dens and daily activities like walks to keep them enriched, all things that are vastly more complicated without tiger-handler interaction. My guess is that the redevelopment of Tiger island (which is at best a huuuuuge waste of money in the endeavour to have overzealous risk management for risk management's sake, going so far as ignoring the best professional opinions in the industry to do so) is going to require millions of dollars of new chutes and pens to move tigers from A to B, and this is the start of those works.1 point
