  2. If anyone is interested, I also have way too many videos of the demo/earthworks going on too. Also, the pile of dirt in front of Buzzsaw is the dirt being ferried in from WWW, it was about triple that size by the end of the day @Skeeta Yes, the dirt is being piled on top of the old station turntable area (as I've had a few people asking) Note: My reply didn't include every photo that was posted because I forums etiquette goodly

  3. It is indeed the travelling Rebel that will be going into the park. Not sure when but Gumbuya have bought it.

  4. The reservoir is now gone, and the channels are being filled. Pretty much no evidence of the rides existence anymore. (Photos TPSN)

  5. Quick update to Luna Park Melbourne: The aforementioned new kids rides are now installed in park and will be unveiled in the coming weeks. The spinning coaster appears to be , as previous speculation surmised, a clone of the SBF Visa spinner at Adventure Park in Geelong. This has yet to be confirmed , however. The LPM unit will be called Speedy Beetle. The other new ride is a kids Ferris Wheel called Moon Balloons. What is good to note is that neither of these rides are replacing any existing attractions- these are completely new ride installs. It would not have been unreasonable to expect that the Silly Serpent may have been updated or one of the older kids rides but this will not be the case. The park cannot confirm at this time whether any seasonal rides will be located in the park for this summer period. Not a huge update but its always nice to see new additions in any park. Younger families will most certainly find them pleasing when visiting LPM

  6. One has to assume it is the travelling Rebel. They've called it Rebel World, probably as a tie-in to the park's "world" set up. Ironically, an up and comer books a traveller for a while - we're over the moon for what it means for the park's future. Meanwhile, Sea World goes and books a traveller for a while - and we're decrying the end of the theme park... lol.

  7. Here are as promised the interview with Martin & Vleminckx and The Gravity Group! Sorry about the delay: Chuck Bingham, Vice-President of M&V briefly discusses the upcoming arrival of Rocky Mountain Construction coasters in Asia - and his company's involvement in it The interview ran short due to circumstances on my behalf, but we'll certainly meet again for another more in-depth one probably at AAE 19! This interview is no short one on the other hand! Even after editing out many clips, The Gravity Group's Chad Miller and Korey Kiepert are just so talkative But they're also very much on-point with their comments, giving incredible insight into their work of designing wooden coasters. From layout style preferences, to the appeal of smaller family woodies, to polishing a nose car design and so on... Chad and Korey know how to communicate their passion and knowledge, while not taking themselves (too) seriously I hope you really like the interviews so far. I'll try to post more here when my schedule is a little clearer. There's yet another final one coming up with Universal Rocks - the scenery builders of Taron, Fenix, Wicker Man & more!

  8. IRide is coming along nicely. The facade is huge and slightly invasive but time will tell when it’s completed.

  10. Gumbuya World have announced on their Facebook site the installation of a brand new ride for the Summer season. They are installing a KMG Inversion ride identical to the travelling version XXXL that makes its way on the east coast for Goldenway amusements. This marks the first real thrill ride for Gumbuya World and is the first major investment in the 12 months since it has been refurbished and reopened. This represents a positive step for the park and is a good indication that the park is travelling in the right direction and is a massive vote of confidence in the ongoing viability of the park. Coupled with this is the fact that Gumbuya still have the recently purchased Plunge slide from Seaworld yet to be installed and things are looking quite good for the park and its immediate future. Whilst this is a great confidence booster for the park, I do think that this ride installation may not come at exactly the right time. This is a high thrill ride that for mine does not really fill the demographics of the target audience that the park currently attracts.I think that one or two more family thrill attractions would be a better fit for the park at this stage in its life cycle. However, it may hint at more attractions to come and if so, then this could be the spring board to continued investment in the park. This could be a very good thing for the Victorian theme park landscape and could be the catalyst for continued investment for not only Adventure Park and Funfields, but also finally for some major reinvestment for Luna Park Melbourne.

  11. Because if bringing in a carnival ride is one way to test out the audience reaction, then why aren’t all the parks doing it? Sorry that doesn’t fly. The parks spend a lot of money into researching their target markets and what would fit said markets, they aren’t going to hire a carnival ride to “test the market”, it’s purely a stop gap measure because they know the park is fucked. It’s disappointing really that it has come to this.

  12. Asked Bikash today why they opted for a travelling/temporary version vs a permanent installation, and his response (paraphrasing) was that if it is received well it may lead to a permanent version “bigger than anything you’ve seen before”

  13. Many years ago I asked the "oracle" of Dreamworld his thoughts on B&M coasters. Bob's reply was that they wouldn't build one because their capacity is too high for Dreamworld's needs. He pointed out that B&Ms have four across seating, but Dreamworld really only needs two across. I guess what you can take from that is that his basic arithmetic skills and industry insight seems to be about as good as his memory...

  15. The Baldwin last ran in October 2016, there are reports they want to get it going, but as with everything now “it’s lower priority”

  16. Ha you are right. However , a ride of this scale means a great deal more for a small park like Gumbuya World than it does for an established and much older park like Seaworld. The irony is that if the Skyflyer was announced for Gumbuya World , then we would probably all be praising its installation. Seaworld has the capacity and has done in the past to do so much better. Its an understandable reaction I guess.

  17. could even form part of their WWW construction process, but i'm with Skeeta - that sort of earthworks should have an OPW separate to any other approval.

  19. Sigh. Only 6 dates all of which miss peak the peak of peak season. Was also hoping they were going to do a night show with a bit more substance to it than just LAZERS AND FOUNTAINS but the public ate it up last year so can't blame them. Seems very phoned in. How about this though; Just as an experiment, why not try doing one Aquacolour show at 7.30 with rides till 7.00 for the 2 weeks after boxing day included in admission? All the crap is there for the show anyway and running all the rides for an extra 2 hours costs all of $1000 so not exactly going to break the bank. If you manage to sell <100 burger meals to the 2,000 odd people in the top terrace who might stick around you'll make that back. So go on, do something just a tiny bit above the bare minimum, just to mix things up a bit. EDIT: Also no Monorail. Can you try even just a little bit?

  20. Hypothetically if you allocated that corner of the park (old amphitheatre + Blue Lagoon) to hotel development then the train might still have a viable course around it. The real issue with the train is what you do with it if Corroboree is gutted and the footprint of Dreamworld is significantly reduced. Do you make it a shorter loop via the island (or fill in part/all of the river) at great expense or do you decide that between the difficulty of operating steam trains, the unreliability of their diesel replica and general public liability headaches with crossings and stray riders, that the train has had its day?

  21. I think there's plenty of Wildlife already. What's needed ate more new and much better quality rides and walk through attractions, and maybe a couple of good restaurants.

  23. It's a bloody fantastic and punchy ride and it really wont be for everyone but I think it's a great idea on Gumbuya's part. A cheap thrill ride to go with the mix of family rides and attractions in the park. It'll definitely draw the older and more thrill orientated crowds instead of being focussed mainly at families with younger kids.

  26. If they came out and said 'We're working on a couple big projects but big projects take time and the park needs more rides NOW; hence why we're adding a temporary ride for a year or two' I could actually totally get behind it. The problem is demolishing the lighthouse makes it look like this nothing carnie ride is part of their long term plan. The lighthouse, while not exactly iconic does give a nice bit of support to 'Sea World'. Its captures what those lighthouses dotted up and down the coast are like. But better than that, because the walk out to it is past dolphins and it's not a long drive. If Flume is dead rip the channel out and put a ride in the middle of Storm. If Flume isn't dead then put it near Jet Rescue. But don't permanently rip out one of the nicest bits of scenary in the park if it's a stop gap measure, and if it isn't a stop gap measure then give me a call and I'll do creative consulting for free because who ever is deciding things has no idea how to make the park great.

  29. Hypothetically people don't like staying at ghetto theme parks. If you realign the boundaries between the Amphitheatre and Corroboree you also say goodbye to the RHLR and the Vintage Cars. Looks like we are finally getting a Luna Park Gold Coast. Pop quiz: Which is better? Luna Park Sydney. Luna Park Melbourne. Luna Park Gold Coast.

  30. Some quality theme park dirt in them photos. A little bit too chunky for my liking in parts, but I'm being too finicky! On the whole, quality dirt!
