  1. Between this, Vortex, Dome (admittedly canceled), Lego Movie 3D, I can see that VRTP's strategy seems to include large amounts of 'Sticking it to DW' rather than just 'Make our parks as good as they can be'. That mentality has left a generic thrill ride built right over dolphin pools at SW, and exotic animals at a park which is meant to be an Aussie farm. It's not about conservation, it's a really transparent business decision. So what you end up with are two of VRTP's 'Sticking it to DW' decisions being potential massive own goals in the bigger PR battle they're having surrounding the issues of animals in captivity. Also Tiger Island is incredibly well done, inviting comparisons to one of the best things DW has ever done seems like a poor move. Advice from your mother VRTP, don't worry about what the other kids are doing, you just focus on being the best you can be, otherwise you'll lose sight of what makes you special in the first place.

  2. It's a cynical business move. By pretending a very obvious business decision is about conservation they weaken their own message. What they're doing isn't cruel or anything dumb like that, these Tigers will get amazing care: it's just not in sync with their narrative, and it's also not in keeping with what the rest of the park is. If VRTP want to turn PC into a proper zoo, I think that'd be great. The 'Aussie Farm' being one of the themed lands of a fully fledged zoo with a coherent message and quality exhibits would work well. Bringing in Tiger cubs exclusively because DW have them is not sending out a coherent quality message.

  3. TOT II hasn’t been closed for maintenance, it’s been closed to save money. No maintenance has been going on inside, it’s just been sitting dormant and reopening randomly when something else closes for unexpected maintenance. It’s actual maintenance is later in the year, it will close again for actual annual maintenance later in the year. Nothing but the usual Dreamworld cost cutting at the expense of guest experience to make the books look better for the end of financial year.

  5. Never realised the wave had water cascading out of it. Rode Wipeout in 1997, 2006, and 2007. First time in '97 I don't remember much except walking through the back of the wave to get to the ride, but the second and third years ('06, '07) the water wasn't coming out of the wave like that. Guessing it was a feature of the ride, like the shark, that they turned off? Saving Water?

  8. I'm wondering if it could effectively be a potential new venue for the 'Wild' area that was supposed to be built at Sea World several years ago, but wasn't.

  9. I assume they've done this so that there isn't too many rides down at once? Kudos to Dreamworld for that.

  10. For someone always talking about theming and elements that make an experience special and unique that is a surprising comment and just completely wrong. Top Golf is closer to a bowling alley than KDV driving range. Why ride the monorail at SW when you can go on the G:link for the same experience, and it has air conditioning and takes you somewhere useful

  11. well, that actually ties in well with the story - considering the next scene is what you get in the ride. its still horribly executed, but at least someone was thinking of cohesion somewhere along the lines...

  12. Of course its a limited time. Cubs get bigger. That doesn't rule out the first step in a 'test the waters' plan to expand the park's horizons. I'm sure many regarded the Sky Flyer similarly - as a test prior to pushing ahead with the grand atlantis plan. Is it that big a stretch to think they might be trialling this in a similar way? History says i'm probably wrong, and you're quite likely right. I'm just saying don't rule it out - Atlantis was certainly unexpected for Sea World after years of neglect. They could surprise us. That's all i'm saying.

  15. so, TOT needs more maintenance, but we'll open it up before its finished so the park doesn't look dead. Sounds like safety taking a back seat. I guess it can't really hurt anyone... #wait

  16. If you go by council records the Private Building Certifier still hasn't completed the final sign off on the building.

  17. Instead of the Arkham lift climb they should honestly do the Dc Rivals lift climb, that way they don’t have to sell the hypercoaster climb as a seperate thing

  18. Hopefully once they close Trolls, they'll be able to provide some much needed shade and seating. That area is really lacking in shade and seats.

  19. In a move sure to spark the local movement into overdrive once again, the Government of Canada has passed bill S203 - the 'Free Willy' bill. This makes it illegal to keep a cetacean captive, except for rescue or rehabilitation purposes. Existing animals in captivity are exempt. https://www.news.com.au/travel/world-travel/north-america/free-willy-bill-bans-dolphin-and-whale-captivity-in-canada/news-story/a1a985c2ae6827b68a03a3631d3414dc I do love PETA's comments at the bottom saying 'SeaWorld; you're next #emptythetanks' - this law wouldn't impact the current animals, and the US parks have already said they will cease their breeding programs, so its just a matter of time. No doubt the morons at Justice for Captives will read only the headlines, and initiate another set of protests at the park. Hopefully the new biosecurity arrangements at the park will see them hit harder for any disruptions.
