Anime is decently popular, about as much as it is in America BUT unless it's something like 'Pokemon' it's not going to fill up the family and kids seats, like the 'Shrek' franchise would. Things like 'Attack on Titan' or 'One Piece' might have some mainstream appeal but not enough to boost ticket sales with the exception of enthusiasts. Another thing you've got to remember is the Gold Coast is a cultural wasteland for anything ~niche~. I wear an anime shirt in Melbourne I get people occasionally complimenting or recognizing my shirt, maybe a nod or a smile. I wear an anime shirt on the Gold Coast and people laugh or call me a "nerd" or "loser" or "weirdo" or "freak". The Gold Coast isn't representative of Australian tastes and Movie World isn't about to shell out a bunch of dollarydoos to cater to their "nerd/loser/weirdo/freak" demographic. Maybe a merch tie-in might happen but beyond that it's not gonna happen.

tl:dr - some Australians like anime lots but not enough for any Gold Coast park to invest in it beyond something minimal or low-risk.

On the one hand, the calibre of some of the shows they list in their projects is high, and therefore promising, but on the other, the website is absolute dogshit and there's very little information about the work they actually did on those shows.

Yeah they also produced shows for Sunway lagoon. Many of their productions are middle east and asia.

Looking closely, the 'lion king' show they feature doesn't look like it's Disney...

I think there's a balance to be had here - PASS did the audience participation very well. It introduced the show slowly, allowing stragglers to take their seats while some of the character building was done. For those selected, it was a special experience (I was picked in 1994), but additionally it gave the illusion of the audience plant 'Rodney' being 'just another guy'. Once chosen though, the 'recruits' were briefed by 'Proctor' quietly while 'Harris' continued to play to the crowd with further exposition.

HWSD lets this down because it drags on too long. The 'director' first has to choose everyone, and then the crowd sits around while those people make their way to the filming spots and react for the camera, all happening live. it's too slow, especially after the show already kicked off with high energy vehicle action.

It's the innovator vs. the imitator.

 

ETA: This is one of their shows out of China - and it's very HWSD-esque.

Still donuts, still drifting, but promising with the inclusion of other stunts too.

The problem is finding something developed with cues for the effects. If the animation is not developed with these in place, you have to sit there for hours/days/weeks, time stamping a text file and developing and testing a cue sheet to program the PLC that runs everything with new sequences to sync with the video. It's not an easy swap out process to build a new show from scratch.

The only two anime examples used at Universal this year were Jujutsu Kaisen: Hunger of the Cursed that was shown during Universal’s first FanFest Nights, and Chainsaw Man: The Chaos was shown this year’s Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights which both use moving chairs, and water spray, and only in Japan 4D effects.

I’m a little worried about how this new show is going to turn out with how short of a turnaround time it has. They have at most 2 months before they test and open the show for the summer holidays. Hopefully they’ve done a lot of work on it behind the scenes so it still ends up decent despite the short turnaround.

Things I would do:

• Reintroduce a pre-show to Roxy - similar to Shrek where it actually introduces the story, rather than just having it a dark holding area for the next group of guests. Use it for something. Upgrading or replacing the seats in theatre would be nice, but not essential if they're still functioning.
• ✅ Get all the shuttered facilities online - Stars Cafe, West Burgers etc.
• Return Showcase to a proper Show to take some load off attractions and offer something else when maintenance or downtime impacts the park's capacity.
• Turn Doomsday area around and chuck in a few small flats. Honestly even a 'scrambler' style ride, (suitably themed of course) would be preferable to having Doomsday sit and rot. (Longer term i'd see SVU rethemed back to western but for now the cheapest thing is to keep current theme and get a new ride - or two - in to replace the hammer). You could probably fit two small 'scrambler' sized attractions in that footprint.
• ✅ Ditch HWSD and Showtime in favour of a show that is more than just 'driving in circles, the show'
• Return intencity to guest accessible space. restore dodgems (ick) or utilise the space for other purposes - something i'd love to see is perhaps a mini "special effects" show (done more like convention stalls rather than an actual 'show' where one stall has a green screen, one has a Mo-Cap set up. (There's more to flesh out on this idea which maybe i'll write if i find the time)
• Flesh out kids a bit more. Use the other side of LTRR shed for some sort of dark ride, or an ariel's grotto style area. Again, returning previously guest accessible space back to the guests.
• Open Chinatown. Theme it to Yellow Brick road. Before anyone says they've already got a yellow brick road next to superman, there is more than one road.
  

And the majority of Oz were matte paintings, so get some talented artists in to paint the walls of the alley and boom, immersive Oz Yellow Brick Road. 
You could even have the artwork progress, cornfields, apple tree forests, poppy fields before you round the corner and the big emerald city is revealed...

 They're running a bit behind on my wishlist, but they're getting there.
