  2. Splitting straws on semantics is how all classic bad faith arguments start, FYI. By that logic they wouldn't be removing Tower of Terror track either because of the "financial situation" they're in and how pointless it is. Struggling business or not, Dreamworld is a theme park and spending money on making the place look like another place/world/thing is actually one of the most important things they should be doing every single day in making it great again instead of watering the joint down with sub-par facade replacements and giant fences aimed at covering up SBNO rides. These days shopping centres are better designed and better themed. Ergo, i'd say that if they can't meet the consumer expectations set by a local shopping joint (let alone be completely unable to step out of the shadow of its former self) then they have no business operating a park to begin with. This is a beautiful oxymoron and i'm here for it. 😄 It just so perfectly summarises why the park is the way it is right now. For a park that's trying to shift their image away from a brand that half-arses stuff to the point of fatalities, i'd say leaving a 100m tall sign of a closed ride up for all to see is about as half-arsed as it gets and does a lot of damage in terms of affirming guest perceptions of what they hear on the telly about the joint. That perception is further concreted in place when, throughout their day they come across all of the SBNO/closed rides littered across the park. I often wonder how many guests, sweaty and exhausted from walking half a mile to a closed ride (because there's no printed or useful maps in-park anymore), look up into the sky utterly exhausted and see that glorious grey phallus with "Tower of Terror" painted down the side, almost taunting them of the money they spent, and think to themselves "never again."

  3. It's Mack Time - Dreamworld's Steel Taipan roller coaster goes vertical Dreamworld's long awaited new roller coaster has finally "gone vertical". The first pieces of track are now in place on Steel Taipan. Elsewhere in the park, the visiting Brickman Legends Lego exhibit is a much-needed drawcard for guests during the school holidays. 4. Its not just the parks. The whole Gold Coast is just nuts right now. God I miss cheap family holidays to Bali being a thing.

  5. No, but you did say that it mattered 'a lot'. Yeah sure, people are gonna experience disappointment when they realise the ride they could see from the highway is closed - but its no more or less disappointment than what guests experience when ride is unexpectedly closed for unscheduled maintenance on their once in a lifetime trip. According to RCDB there is 191 coasters across the world classed as SBNO. I'm sure there's plenty of flat rides out there too, and i'm sure some of those are visible outside the gates and lead to disappointment. Let's not pretend though that that was the only ride that person was visiting for (if it was, they'd likely know when it closed) so their intention was to visit the entire park - and they still did and probably still enjoyed their day overall. Whether it's the top priority, or just matters a lot, i think expending a fair chunk of coin to simply remove or cover over defunct ride signage when the park is in a financial situation we're all lead to believe (even according to this website) is in a bad place where it was said at one point they may not be able to afford even to build their new ride - i think they'd have no business paying to have that removed when there are so many other actual problems at the park. If they could send someone up in the maintenance basket with a can of dulux and a roller then sure - but half assing things is what got DW into trouble in the first place, and doing it right would just be too expensive for it to matter very much at all.

  7. First, Exposed: The Ghost Train Fire & now another theme park documentary series on Australian free-to-air television! ...and a much happier documentary series too... INSIDE LEGOLAND: A WORLD OF WONDER The 1st episode goes for 2 hours (including ad breaks, of course) and I anticipate it will be either two 2 hour episodes over 2 weeks or two 1-hour episodes plus the 2-hour 1st episode over 3 weeks: Hope that has built some anticipation...one piece at a time (Disclaimer: I have no more information on the show's upcoming telecast to provide). Previews of Episode 1 is provided below (Note: As stated above, I expected Australia's Episode 1 to be a double episode in a maximum 3 part series unlike the UK which was a 4 part series hence Episode 1 & 2 previews below): Below is information about the show from a press release on Legoland Windsor's website (I've put it in a spoiler box as it is targeted to UK viewers last year rather than Australian viewers next week): It begins Tuesday 20 April 8:50pm to 10:50pm on Channel 9, immediately after Lego Masters - Episode 2.

  8. We learnt from DC Rivals construction, once the first pieces go in, it comes together very quickly. For comparison, it took four months to install all DC Rivals track. Rivals is almost 1.4km long and Steel Taipan will be almost 1.1km long

  10. With this level of investment, asking a realistic price for an annual pass is a welcome change. No more cheap annual passes!

  13. It may be 45 days since the article was posted but here is the full article below complete with the new design of Velocity Falls, which was submitted to Kiama Municipal Council as a DA modification last Winter. It also reveals Jamberoo Express is getting an upgrade & expansion (I assume the new 'track' (concrete path) that was proposed in the Kangaroo Island DA that goes from the Funnel Web observation deck to The Taipan via Velocity Falls's bridge is being built as part of this development allowing a full circumnavigation of the main areas of the park). Lastly, it reveals, Platypus River, Kangaroo Island's lazy river, complete with wave machine, is the next development. For those who don't know much about Fitzroy Falls, here is the official website:

  14. I didn’t come on here to start an argument, rather add an opposing side to the argument. If this is the way mods treat members of this site, it’s no wonder Parkz and some of it’s members have the name it has within the local industry. @Slick, I fully agree that it’s not a good look. I’m not saying that they should leave it up there for old times sake. However what I am saying is that it’s clear the tower is getting work done to it, the track is slowly being removed, and that whole area of the park is being transformed. Give them time, rome wasn’t built in a day, and realistically it doesn’t matter to anyone whether it comes off or is painted over today, tomorrow or in September. This is exactly the same as crucifying the park because Vortex doesn’t look well themed... whilst it is still quite clearly under construction... oh wait..

  15. Damn these rides are coming up real quick. Might be finished with Maloney’s Corner quicker than I thought. Might give them more time to refresh the rest of the park south of Coney Island cause as has been said before, some spots REALLY need it.

  18. I can tell you that both Thurs and Fri last week and again this morning the queue to enter the car park between 9:30 and 10:30am extended the entire Northbound off ramp of the m1 and about 500-600m south of the exit itself. I’ve never ever seen that occur in 15 years living up here.

  19. They haven’t had crowds like that for some time now, but those queues some ridiculous, especially if they aren’t operate rides to the max. There was a time when no matter what, every school holidays, the rides would operate with every train. And even remember a time when on weekends they would sometimes operate with all trains. But the fact they were operating the park like it was a normal week day is insane. What you doing VRTP.

  20. is this just a case of everyone's pent up holiday time all being spent on the coast at one time? why on earth has it been this stupidly busy? (other than the park's deathly slow ops)
    1 point
  21. Nope it was absolutely packed today. I came back to movie world today the line to enter the park is all the way past the non inverted loop and going up to the edge of the car park on the other side and they are still only doing one train ops on the major coasters. Scooby, DCR and GL for most of the day sat at 180 minutes with Scooby sitting at 90 mins and rivals at 120mins at 4:30. Superman also shut it’s queue completely for standby lines during the day. There was a point where the shortest line was roadrunner at 90 mins. HWSD filled to capacity for 4 shows and Roxy as well. It really was insane.

  22. We, of course, won't say anything about the horrendously poor guest experience in this situation - because at least it's open, right?
    1 point
  23. Because it would create a negative guest experience for non enthusiasts touring an attraction they can no longer ride.

  24. See, I find that frustrating. They offer a cheaper price for passholders to do something. Then they water down the product, and offer a 'discount' which doesn't actually amount to a discount if you're already a passholder because they don't offer the package 'without admission' like they used to. Most "vip" theme park experiences i've done or researched around the world have specifically noted 'does not include park entry' or 'a valid park entry ticket is required to participate in this experience' etc. etc. One of the biggest selling points for the star tour was the behind the scenes unique experiences you couldn't do any other way - scooby walk and coaster climb. I mean, heck - since Arkham is just sitting there anyway, if there is anyway that they could make it safe for guests, why not do the climb? why not allow guests into the envelope for a unique photo opportunity amongst the track? Or up close with the dark knight statue? My god these people are idiots.
