  1. Rode Sky Flyer this morning. It was walk on at open, but people didn't really know it was there. Look, it was fun. It's not a thrill ride at all. it's not a Star Flyer. But for what it is, essentially a big Ekka ride, it smooth, comfortable and fun. Views are nice! You can see out to the mountains in the west. Good view of Surfers to the south. Don't make a trip for it, but if you are there it's worth a go, if you have low expectations!

  2. @Skeeta They're referring to it as a 'terminal' and telling you to check for 'departure updates'. But even this speaks to my point about Dreamworld not being able to pick a theme and stick to it. They can't even be consistent within a single ride. They have a Stark-Trek inspired logo, A rocket-man TV commercial featuring remote Australian landscapes, a building themed to an airport terminal, all dumped into a Victorian-styled Main Street. The whole concept is a complete mess because Dreamworld have been lazy and not given it anymore thought than 'let's theme our high-tech 'flying' ride to the concept of 'flying''. When no one is providing creative direction for the park or for the individual ride, everyone involved just starts slapping their take of the 'flying' concept onto the ride. I don't care if DW want to make changes to the park's aesthetics and style, but those changes should be an improvement and be consistent - working toward a larger vision for the park. At the moment every single ride, store, attraction and show seems like an isolated 'project' implemented by different people working in silos. It is just my opinion, but I believe that DW needs to hire a creative director whose sole job it is to start overseeing this stuff. This ride is supposed to be a major, multi-million dollar tourist attraction. Ask yourself if you think people are going to want to stand outside of this building and take a photo of themselves to share their experience and memories on social media. If the answer is no, it's probably the wrong design for a theme park.

  3. Not a huge fan of the partly closed roller shutter and entry otherwise mostly blocked by a curtain look. Not a huge fan of the partly closed roller shutter and entry otherwise mostly blocked by a curtain look. Once inside (for those who ignore the signs to the contrary and assume it is open anyway), it's a very good exhibition, if a bit small. A good start at bringing a bit of movie magic back to Movie World. Let's hope it continues and gets bigger and better.

  4. Made the trip up from Sydney to the theme parks, and just so happened that the Sea World Starflyer opened today, so I thought I would go take a look! Visually, the ride looks okay, and it's good to see that Seaworld has made an attempt to make the ride feel somewhat permanent. There is wrapping all around the ride and the paybox was covered up which was nice to see. The ride experience wasn't too bad, and I felt that whilst even though the cycle was not ridiculously long, it was perfect and gave some excellent views of the surrounding area. There were a few minor forces that could be felt, but keep in mind that this is a family ride, not a world-class thrilling attraction. Just want to say a massive shout-out to the staff working the ride also! They were obviously having a lot of fun, and when they found out I was a Parkz member, gave me my own little private photoshoot with the ride haha!

  5. I was on the first ride of the day on it. Ride was over so fast you spin at the top for 30seconds and it’s all over, you can see half the park from the top so if they do get a permanent model I would hopeful of a 60metre version. Only negative was it has a height restriction of 120 cm which is higher then the storm coaster 110cm so it’s not really a family ride. On other news I when on the jet rescue coaster seem to run a lot fast and I have to give them credit the track was like new paint was great unlike many coasters at movie world that need paint jobs (green lantern)

  10. Yes, but the way MW do their dates on maintenance. The date shown is the day it reopens. DW do it the opposite, and the date shown is the last day of maintenance

  19. This building looks terrible. It does not fit the style of Dreamworld, or have any unique theme beyond generic 'airport' or possibly 'shopping mall'. This design is going to date quickly and the glass windows housing the stairwells already look like a dated early 90s office block. Dreamworld increasingly seems to be treating their park like a shopping mall where each store has it's own unique brand and fit out and there is no continuity from one attraction to the next. While I get that there were no airplanes in the late Victorian era, to theme it to the surrounding buildings, there were ideas for flying contraptions dating back to the 1500s (DaVinci, etc). It's not difficult to come up with a concept that allows you to create a theme park attraction, instead of a generic 'flying' ride. We've all been to an airport, we know what they look like, and we don't go to Dreamworld to see a cheap copy of one. The theme of the building doesn't have to represent the concept of the ride, but the story attached to the ride and Dreamworld could have made that story anything. Even if you wanted to theme it to an airport, there are many Art Deco and historic airports from around the world that could have been used to create better theming, that would have sit closer to the rest of the main street look. Liverpool: Kallang Airport (Singapore): Newark: LaGuardia (New York City): Jacksonville Florida: Swan Island: The building could have been designed to fit the rest of the area and simply had an air traffic control tower element added, and all of the art deco designs would have suited a Sky Voyager theme much better than a modern airport. To be honest, I'm going to be disappointed with the current Dreamworld design if there are not metal detectors, x-ray machines and 40 minute security lines to get on the ride. If they're going to theme it to a modern airport, why not go all the way?

  21. There's a SkyVoyager branded kiosk in Westfield Coomera at the moment. If you buy an annual pass there, you get a pass for 13 months (same as online) and also a $20 Westfield gift card. The guy there told me: - The new development for next year is an adventure river in Whitewater World, which will include things like Waves and waterfalls. - They are NOT planning a dark ride for 2019, but it might be happening in 2020 or subsequently. - They are considering a new coaster also in coming years. Most importantly, boxing day is still the planned opening day of SkyVoyager. It just can't be confirmed just yet due to construction activity, which of course can be a bit hard to predict. Exciting times!

  23. Doesn't Parkz have a policy on posting links to user's own content? Parks on the coast - a youtube channel - is operated by @Gold Coast Amusement Force Here's the link to the channel info: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6Yv0S_Zpbjmo5zB6QwtD7w/about Email address on the channel is gcthemeparksz@<omitted>.com Facebook page for GCthemeparks - https://www.facebook.com/pg/GCthemepark5/about/?ref=page_internal The Parkz profile for GCAF which lists the youtube channel as their webpage - https://www.parkz.com.au/forums/profile/32341-gold-coast-amusement-force/ which also lists the insta page for gc_themeparks I mean, if its a video of a POV, or an actual, couple of minutes of narrative and footage, sure - but 5 second epileptic scans of a scene which could be much better portrayed in a photo, or slideshows of pictures put into a youtube video that you can't effectively zoom in on or otherwise closely analyse are just shit. Not to mention - this video in particular is combined content so we end up getting the same video posted as a reply to multiple threads - In short, I feel like perhaps posting videos (that are just still-photo slideshows, or short 'vine' like videos) from youtube (since Parkz doesn't host playable videos in forum) is a way of subverting the rules on hot linking to images on other sites. Of course, i'm not a moderator, so whether that is actually breaching the rules, or perhaps if the rules need to change to account for the loophole is entirely up to the Parkz team. Probably toeing a line over the guidelines too. Promotion Users may not create threads or posts for the purposes of advertising other websites. This is regardless of whether or not the website belongs to the user, or whether it could be considered a competing site. This is different to linking to sites for the purposes of promoting stimulating discussions on Parkz. 24. Kinda. More Anti-Capitalist - they really didn't want for Americanisation. Germany already had a bustling Film industry and didn't want the yanks trying to show em how it's done, so to speak. I still remember a huge banner held up by a couple of Protesters outside Roxy Theatre that said "WBs GO HOME" - a picture taken by the Press and put on the front page of many Newspapers covering the Opening! Despite generating thousands of jobs and offering a sizeable boost to the economy, the locals hardly rolled out the red carpet! It was also really hard to get (and keep) good Workers.

  26. Hi @themeparknut2011 Australia's Movie World never had a Neverending Story ride. When Germany's Movie wWorld opened some Aus MW originals were improved and altered slightly here and there.. They included Looney Tunes Dark ride (yours was set in the Black Forest, ours Australia) Gremlins (yours had 'Alf', we had Beetlejuice), Roxy Theatre (Germany debuted with Marvin the Martian which Aus didn't get till later), Batman Adventure (roughly the same but Germany ride had a couple more Motion Bases) and Bermuda Triangle (roughly the same as our version formally located at sister park Sea World). Our Lethal Weapon was a Vekoma SLC. Not sure what type/brand of Coaster Germany's LW was but I know it had duelling tracks and by all accounts was a very rough and unreliable ride. Neverending Story was extremely popular in Germany and so it made sense to open the Park with a major ride based on it. As you know it was a large river rapids ride that featured indoor sections and large sets. I worked with the Staff that assisted in preparing and opening Movie World Germany back in the late 90's. Likewise, Germany sent some of their Staff out to Australia to help improve standards in Germany's Park. While in many ways Germany's WBs Movie World was a Superior Park aesthetically and with more content than the original, the whole "Warner Bros." Association never washed well with the locals in Dusseldorf. Opening day was an absolute disaster and the Park really didnt get off on the right foot. There were Protesters, a Skydiving Accident and a Guest had a Heart Attack while in the Batman ride. Both Movie Worlds have long since distanced themselves from offering mostly themed "experiences" focusing more on big rides and Coasters nowadays, but it would seem MoviePark was a better fit somehow for Germany once all the WBs indicies were all but stripped away.
