  1. Huh, Trident is looking a little different from the concept art but I’m excited to ride ‘Surf City’!

  3. I remember seeing this article in the paper when i was just 10 years old and reading it with fascination and wonder. Of course the plans did not eventuate but I do remember that the coaster plans were by Arrow Huss. I just wanted to share this with all of you as this article has been in my brain for 30 + years and to finally see a digital copy is great. Given that there was fierce resident opposition even then this did not progress beyond pre planning stages but it certainly does present a huge "Oh what might have been" moment. The link to the article is HERE

  4. Luna Park Melbourne has never really been an interest for me when visiting Melbourne. I always saw it as an even lesser Luna Park Sydney. A good, quality coaster would definitely make me more interested in visiting when I visit Melbourne almost annually.

  5. Changing the name would probably have the opposite effect because people would see it as them trying to divert attention. Flynn is pretty spot on with a lot of what he's said. It'd be kinda like if airlines changed their name every time a plane crashed instead of identifying the root cause of the problem and fixing it.

  6. They already are in the process of recovering. The name of Dreamworld has nothing to do with their chances of recovering, however. It's about good investments in safety and new attractions which will bring guests back through their doors. This is already seen - attendance and revenue has been (for the most part) steadily increasing since around 2017-2018.

  7. I don't think that's the kind of crowd they want to attract...

  8. Wow, I had no idea. Sick find there @Jobe - there's a real Great American Scream Machine vibe to that proposal. There's also some tiny hints of what would eventually become the Big Dipper turned Cyclone/Sidewinder/??? that we all know today.

  9. The event is back again, but this year it’s only on for two nights (so far). But so far it seems Lomé the event will be very much the same as last year https://www.dreamworld.com.au/what-s-on/happy-halloween/

  11. Poor choice if you ask me. Human beings are the worst sort of people.

  12. Good article and I agree with many of the points. Closing BRC is an odd decision and does take away a lot of the family appeal. Hopefully Dreamworld have some plans regarding a decent replacement because I feel its losing both it's thrill seeker and family appeal. Who are they catering to anymore?

  13. The list of 'what's on' doesn't really have all that much but 'free' rides at night is always welcome. It's interesting that for an event which is redeemable for free with season passes they don't seem to have a huge focus on uncharges like Spooky Nights. I wonder if they'll have more uncharges visible when you get there?

  14. @Brad2912 it definitely is a shame, but it’s not a surprise because the train is running until further notice

  16. I think they could use another one. Replacing 1 side of Giant Drop with a Falcons Furry gondola would go down pretty well.

  17. Thanks for telling me more about the history of that video it seems slightly awkward the big dipper in luna park in my opinion it's probably because I wasn't born in that era but it would have been cool to experience as well as Wonderland Sydney

  19. All whisper and rumour i've heard has said the same - Arkham (no surprise) and Pounce & Bounce (no great loss). Given that Dreamworld ?recently? removed theirs, my guess is either the product has issues the manufacturer can't resolve, or in the new age of safety, the restraint system probably wasn't up to the task required by the risk assessment. All my own speculation - but its quite telling the long list of other attractions everyone is coming up with, be they SBNO, down for extended maintenance, or otherwise omitted from the park map, suggests VRTP has a lot more than 2 attractions they need to remove at some point in the future, and that doesn't even count those still operating that have a troubled history or are on their last legs.

  20. Clearly no maintenance happening at Arkham so this topic has run its course.

  23. The new colours, in my opinion, blends well in with WhiteWaterWorld and just has that really nice vibrance coming from it definitely in those sunny days it will look really good. I can't wait for the final result of this coaster it has really been in a desperate need of a repaint for way over 5 years

  24. I think people are forgetting that Luna Park Melbourne used to be home to a 2nd coaster in the form of the Big Dipper. This was added to the park in the 1920's and the Sydney example was a clone of this coaster. There is certainly more than enough room for a 2nd coaster within LPM- especially within the footprint left by the former Metropolis coaster, which in itself is in the footprint of the former Big Dipper. At one stage , the Big Dipper was slated to be replaced with the Titan Vekoma Bomerang coaster from Expo Park before the deal fell through and it went to Wonderland instead. There are plenty of coasters that would be a perfect fit for the park within that footprint including the aforementioned Zamperla Motocoaster, Maurer SC 2000 Spinner, a custom Gerstlauer Eurofighter would be ideal , a Premier Rides Skyrocket II, a Custom Mack Big Dipper coaster, S & S El Loco , Maurer Skywheel, Skyline attractions Skywarp, Zamperla Tunderbolt , S&S 4D Freespin could all concevievably fit into the park with some vision and planning. There is actually more usuable and flexible space to fit in another coaster at LPM than there is at LPS. Another coaster that has moderate thrills would be just the ticket for the park to add to its list of attractions. Some of its current ride roster such as Enterprise and Twin Dragon are getting older so some thoughts as to replacements would definitely be on the horizon. Obtaining another coaster at this time seems more than sensible and a coaster such as a compact Eurofighter would certainly catch the public's imagination. The Eurofighter model would be for mine, the best option , but a Sky Rocket II would also be an excellent addition. Have a look at the coasters below that could all fit into the space required at LPM - any of these would be great addition to LPM's lineup and should be well within their reach both financially and physically to obtain and fit into the park.

  25. My reason for this is that all signage for Spongebob 3D has been removed and a while back when they announced Vikings revenge would retire they said it would be removed to make way for a new attraction coming in 2019 but as you all would know that never happened and the ride has sat SBNO for 4 years or so

  26. does anyone have a new photo from this angle in its abandoned state if you do could you please upload it if you can in these 2 photos, you can see the colour of the castle has changed as well as the landscape that had changed when the cable cars were added if you notice anything else bring them up.

  27. it would be good if they demolish the Castle because its been there for a really long time and Vikings revenge looks like it's in bad condition but another roller coaster would be great after leviathan

  28. a new flat ride would be good but it should be a higher thrill level and not some flat ride that should belong in Nickelodeon land

  29. If that is something that looks great we really are setting the bar quite low for standards when it comes to presentation of a ride that looks in that photo literally thrown down, bare minimum done and called a day.
