  1. Just had my first ride, row 5. I was surprised at how compact a coaster it is - making some transitions quite surprisingly snappy. DCR has snappy elements, but being a hyper you can see they’re coming. as so many have said, that reverse launch is surprising. Part of the thrill is knowing the track has no apparent end on the spike (and even though the ride’s computers apply the correct amount of thrust), the half-fear of flying off the track is fun. Two trains today, so as a single rider it a walk-on.

  2. That’s like them bulldozing DC Rivals and you saying “if you need your fix go ride Sponge Bob’s Boating School Blast”

  3. I Attended Movieworld for the first time in a while today & thought I’d comment on a few things including these rumoured additions. First off, the place is thriving with guests. It’s almost like they haven’t heard about the new ride down the road (which with the marketing for it they definitely would have) or they just aren’t interested in visiting the park as it is right now. Just shows DW have to keep pushing to get their mojo back! POSITIVES Superman, Batwing & Roadrunner are still running quite well despite their age. Roadrunner’s new trains are super comfy & a great upgrade, just wish they would have done a repaint. Yogi Bear 4D was quite a fun little snippet of the movie, definitely not the worst screening I’ve seen them put on in that theatre. NEGATIVES 3 rides were closed today, GL, DD & WWF. GL & DD especially must be maintenance nightmares for them! With these rides closed it really does hurt the other lines in the park. Scooby is still terrible with the “Next Gen” upgrade.. however kids seem to not care & still love it. Justice League is still all sorts of broken, with 3 screens not even turning on. If they don’t want to keep it up & working.. why bother? Wouldn’t mind this getting replaced, despite it only being 10 years old. DCR still has issues with seating that I’ve seen raised here on the forums, with the attendant having to mark off where people are going to sit on a white board. The ride is a lot rougher than I remember, but with Mack’s premium seats I don’t see it being a huge issue in the future. RUMOURED ATTRACTION(s) As for the Dualing Boomerang + Suspended Family Coaster, I think it would be a perfect fit for them. I totally understand why they would have chosen this & even though it doesn’t excite me personally, I can see it being a big hit with families. PAST & FUTURE If it was me, I would have kept pushing the themed rides long ago. The parks theming seems to have declined since 2011 when they removed LTRR & Batman Adventure Ride. Only noticeable mention of “theming” would be Justice League & the Doomsday precinct, but accompanied by terrible rides, it just doesn’t live up to the old standards. When you think about how much detailed theming was put into the LTRR & Batman AR, the new theming just isn’t as good. I would have pushed Movieworld as the “Universal of Australia” & let dreamworld take the Six Flags route, but it seems MW is taking the same. I just hope they don’t dig a hole like DW did & struggle to get out of it. I agree as others have said Movieworld as of right now is neither on an “incline” or “decline”, but the next few additions will shape the direction they’re heading. The kids area is desperately needing a new ride, something that takes you on an adventure, something that LTRR did. As for the next addition after, I would either be replacing JL or use the Showcase studio with a Spider-Man/Transformers type ride system. Anyway sorry for rambling on! Just my thoughts 😃

  4. Quiet day, despite it being school holidays. I mentioned to the staff sorting the queue that I’d be happy to wait to ride row 10 on the non-spinning train. She gave me the knowing grin and waved me to it. Rows 6-10 were empty except me, and the seat checking rideop guy also gave me that knowing grin when he finally reached me, saying “best seats apart from the spinning ones”, and wow I agree.

  5. Surfrider will be closed until September. That means it has been closed for 3.5 years.

  6. As a 39 year old that has a kid - let me just say - "goes upside down" is a huge barrier to entry. I get it, its a nice mid-step between kiddie and full thrill, but inversions are a huge chasm for people already unsure about riding... just something to consider.

  7. Argueably, Arthur at Europa and Jurrassic Flyers at Universal Beijing count too.

  9. So many things! I'll give you a very brief rundown on 3 points. First is the attraction mix at each park. Vortex and Surfrider have crazy high restrictions of 140cm. Really only your big rides should have restrictions so high, and the number of those should be kept to a minimum. Those rides are both way too small to be considered headline thrill rides at a proper theme park like SW, but by virtue of their height requirements that's the role they occupy. At WnW they would quite suit the role of the big thrill ride in the park. They also lend themselves better to the abstract themeing of WnW. Vortex is also the wrong ride for that land, and if a ride is going to go right next to dolphin pools, it should be either a Ferris wheel or observation tower/flying island. WnW also has an issue that every 2 bit council pool is a water park these days and dipping in to the proslide catalogue. This is more true down south but it's going to be more of a thing in the future. There's increasingly nothing special about WnW any more. It needs a point of difference, and I think a few flat/dry rides will give it that. That's not to say no more new slides, of course not. They're cheap to build and run. A few mechanical headline attractions though seperates it again in what is becoming a pretty crowded water park market. I'm a strong advocate for a shoot the chutes at DW, and I'm also an advocate for one at WnW. One of these parks needs to build one. WnW is also a year round park, if you can operate a couple dry rides over the winter you increase the year round draw; particualy for those from down south who might be on the fence about going on their holidays. It'll still be too cold for locals, but you could probably get a few of those tourists over the line given the right ticketing. So yeah, very brief and only part of it, but very basically that's why.

  10. They look to have just bought new track so if they were going to move it they would have done so. Can't see it leaving the park anytime soon.

  11. And I will disagree with you every time you say it. In fact I'll go one better: move vortex to wnw with fountains in summer, and dry in the cooler months.

  12. I don’t think I’ve mentioned this yet, but a bit of trivia for everyone. The lockers for the ride are actually the old lockers from the Wipeout. They were kept because they were still in perfect condition. They just had a bit of work done and a repaint.

  13. Can they transplant the Doomsday precinct theming into the new AA replacement area, sell off DD and put my Western RMC Hybrid in there pls k thx? (The one that’s been pined for on this forum for almost a decade now - that uses behind Scooby and alongside WWF.)

  15. Now, with their latest coaster yet to even open yet we’ve decided not only they can’t theme a ride, buy also the 3 unannounced coasters will also be poorly themed. Let’s just cross our fingers they can spring for some Shade Sails, Stenciled Concrete and Gravel so the end result can be stunning.

  16. If this 3x Vekoma off-the-shelf family coaster stunner deal is correct, it'll be interesting to see how they attempt to theme them. VRTP can't even theme 1 ride well these days. How will they ever theme 3 new coasters all at once? My guess is we'll see nicely presented shed-like stations, similar to Green Lantern or Rivals, with 2.5D cutouts of characters and flat graphic prints on the station roof/walls. I wonder if they'll create a new themed land precinct for the coasters?

  17. A new park replacing La Feria Chapultepec Magico in Mexico is getting dueling boomerangs but one is inverted. This would have been perfect if the 3rd coaster was then nthe flying Dutchman.

  18. All this deliberation and conjecture about where the tops coaster went...only for it to turn up scrapped in someones backyard. But where did it come from? The image above was taken at the (very much defunct) Atlantis marine park circa 1985. Did this coaster go on to be the dragon at Tops? And if not, does anyone know where it did go?

  19. I feel like if you’re a young kid that boomerang is going to be a HELL of a lot more thrilling than Roadrunner. And if you’re not it’ll still be fun enough. As for the suspended, could it be as enjoyable as Jet Rescue? If it could then I say it’s a winner. But FWIW if there was a way to throw an actual inversion in the suspended family coaster I think that would be fantastic.

  20. A next gen Vekoma Flying Coaster (see F.L.Y. @ Phantasialand) would have been a slam dunk replacement for Lethal/Arkham. 1) It's a step up/evolution of what it's replacing. 2) Very unique and easy to market to the GP; would easily capture people's attention/imagination. 3) Fills the multi-looper thrill coaster gap in MWs coaster line-up. 4) Ride system suits a Batman theme; so VRTP can keep milking that DC license and triple their bat cape sales.

  21. And good to see their LED lighting package didn’t even make it to opening without being completed stuffed and looking just for damned awful! Funny how in all those years where they were before the old fluro tubes never let them down.

  23. Rode today a few times - 2 in the front, back, middle and then spinning. I was very underwhelmed. I give it a 5/10. Both of the forwards launches 🤮 so uneventful and boring, though the backwards launch felt a little exciting. The airtime hill was waaaaay more tame than I expected, considering rivals has a similar element that slaps hard ASF I was shocked i barely “left” my seat. Pacing was decent, forces were gentle and tame though I was seeing stars after my first ride which was odd for me (also my friends saw stars too) Next to rivals, obviously rivals wins. I’ve ridden hundreds of coasters Al over - and this is fantastic thrill for first time roller coaster riders, so dreamworld has definitely hit the nail on its head. For thrill seekers like myself it’s boring.

  24. Someone needs to buy all the land near Western Sydney airport and stop all the land going into housing developments, for the theme parks that will go in will have to be a Disneyland with Galaxy's Edge, Avengers Campus, Pandora of Avatar, make similar lands to what is in Disneyland and Disneyworld already, make the park be Californian themed, classic Disney themed and put some Australian theming in. Also include a Disneyland resort. The second theme park that would have to come in would have to be a Universal Studios with Harry Potter world with Hogwarts and Diagon Alley, Jurassic World themed area, King Kong themed area, the mummy themed area, transformers themed area and so on. The alternative should be a six flags park with lots of thrill rollercoasters like the parks in the US. If a park wants to survive it needs decent roller coasters, decent thrill rides, no putt putt golf, no overly sized kids areas with crappy rides like many theme parks in Australia do.
