  1. Absolutely excellent article, as always. Let's hope this experience doesn't put VRTP off their new-found (or maybe that should be rediscovered) interest in heavy theming and show scenes for attractions. I always thought it was strange when we heard murmurs a while back that there would be some sort of show scene in the station. By all means, theme the station well, but show elements should really happen on the ride itself. As the article suggests, the best place would have been at the start of the ride between the station and lift hill. But it sounds like the idea to give it great theming was decided upon after the coaster had already been purchased and layout determined, meaning there was no opportunity for Gravity Group to design a section of track which would have allowed for a dark ride component
  2. All new rides everywhere have teething issues! They are extremely complex pieces of machinery! Enthusiasts should know that far better than the GP. It's not like SW would be wanting these issues
  3. Jellyfish Frenzy used to have really nice theming and high tropical planting at the back of it. I guess this was all removed for New Atlantis, but it appears there is still a strip of garden at the back, so is there any reason why this can't return? It desperately needs a separation from New Atlantis by the looks of the photos, so bringing back those high plantings would be perfect
  4. We can always hope, but I would assume that would need commitment from the owner, and there appears to have been no interest from Lindsay Fox in investing in the amusement park
  5. That seems like a fair explanation. I haven't been to the park in years, so hearing that these areas are in bad need of work puts it in better perspective
  6. It got me thinking with the discussion about the potentially small space available for Jungle Rush, why do you guys think the park is intent on squashing so much activity into that area of the park? When you look at the park map, the massive void areas around Steel Taipan and Rocky Hollow etc. scream out for rebalancing. Do you think it's a cost thing? ie. easier and cheaper to add attractions to an area that is already somewhat built up?
  7. These attractions are such a classic and so darn charming, it's excellent they're retaining and upgrading. Wonder who the manufacturer will be?
  8. Surely it's going to need a huge area? The mountain in the artists impression looks promising, but then we saw that with Atlantis and it didn't happen. Also 'show moments' is a huge thing for DW. Sadly, even VRTP seems to have given up on that (although at least Leviathan will have a themed station)
  9. The kids themed areas right next to the river never made sense to me, so this consolidation seems right. I like that they have obviously put a lot of thought into the various lands and how it can all be reworked in a more cohesive way
  10. I would have assumed they'd bring back the dodgems as soon as IT is done with?
  11. Yeah that's fair - it's almost identical. I guess they had the design saved and just changed the text
  12. The Fun House was actually theming used for the IT Maze. It's from the movie. There was also a large clown mouth that you walked through, since taken down
  13. That was a terrible location for a ride - directly outside the toilets
  14. I wonder how much time it's got left anyway? These Intamin drop towers are slowly being retired around the world. Anyone getting TOTII limited time refurb vibes?
  15. I wonder why they didn't put the rockwork outside the queue too? Would have looked great on the front facade, rather just most grass and mirrors
  16. It's a shame all those behind the scenes clips last all of 5 seconds
  17. What about before the Giant Drop was installed though, before it was 'Dreamworld Tower'? I can't find any pics of it on Google, but I remember the top of the tower was completely different. I preferred it, it was way more sleek -- but I guess that's because it didn't need to house any drop mechanics. I wonder, did they remove the old tower topper completely or is it hidden somewhere underneath that tin?
  18. Exactly, and those same families are probably the ones with the mums or dads who scream at the poor ride attendants for not letting their child on a ride because they don't meet the height requirements. The fewer of them in the park, the better
  19. For some reason I thought this 'precinct 'was opening next year, not 2024! That will be a 7 year gap between their last new major attraction, Rivals, and this. That's gotta be the longest pause between new rides in MW's history, right? There are a couple of justifications for this, I suppose. One being the significant expense of Rivals, and I guess COVID (although that hasn't stopped OS parks investing)
  20. Not quite sure why the Peppers ghost effect had to die? You wouldn't think that would be too hard to maintain. The one on the final lift hill is really bad too - literally just a badly adjusted screen now
  21. I think Ashley's opinion on this is totally legitimate, and many many people have expressed a similar-ish opinion about this 'precinct' in the past on the forums, so not sure why he's copping it. Having said that, we most definitely can't be comparing to Disney standards when they get, what, 40 million visitors per year or something? But we know VRTP did used to create new attractions of an extremely high standard with extensive thematic elements. They even had an attraction like that in Sea World itself, with the former Lassiter's then Bermuda. But from the sounds of it, the inside of Leviathan's station is promising and a welcome reversal from the nothing stations of GL and Rivals
  22. Today agree. I have also heard that, based on his experience, DW's current CEO is no fan of S&S. Extremely unlikely they will acquire anything from them
  23. Although IT Maze was incredible from my POV. Universal-grade effects and animatronics. Great costumes and sets. Really well done
