Dreamworld - Something big is coming

For everyone else not interested in a scavenger hunt -

Staged fake scene driving down the road with person holding cardboard sign pointing at giant drop - video cuts to drone shot flying into giant drop with two people standing atop the tower.

I agree it is intriguing. Interesting that GD is in focus... for whatever it is... considering it only recently completed a refurb.

Let the speculation begin.

A teaser for the next season of Big Brother, returning to Dreamworld. The caption of the video says “something BIG is coming” and the music is reminiscent of Big Brother as are the computer glitch effects over the video. The people on the tower would be hosts, maybe Gretel is back as well, it will be on Channel 10 again.

Host was announced a week or so back. It’s not Gretel. Mel Tracina is her name

Based on the video overlay effects and the caption - it’s hard to look past this being a Big Brother announcement as strange as that seems with purpose built facilities down at Village…

with filming beginning in Nov I guess it gives them 5 months to whip a house together somewhere on the property and production facilities, and use the conference centre for the live shows

Jaggs just posted on instagram a few hours ago about a GCB article about an expansion

This article is just in reference to the master planning and subdivision that’s being discussed in this forum

You conveniently left the “maybe” out of the quote. I didn’t see the host announcement, but looking at social media Mel was announced as the host last September.

Just to clear something up because it seems to be repeated a lot here: Village do not have purpose built television facilities.  The do not have technical control rooms, green rooms, catering facilities, audience holding areas, motorised lighting trusses, epoxy floors, or any of the other things that are required for television broadcast - particularly live TV.

They are film production facilities - sound stages.  Essentially large sheds with plywood floors, black walls and large doors. They could be used for television production - game shows, or other studio-based shows - but everything from lighting trusses to green rooms, make up trucks and Outside Broadcast trucks would need to be hired and brought in - like they are for films which typically have higher budgets.  If you're bringing in all of that, you could film in any old shed.

Big Brother is usually a windowless house (which is possible in a sound stage) with a back yard.  It would not be possible to do this at VRS in the Sound Stages.  The lot is too busy with too many other productions happening at the same time.  You would see the sound stages from any exterior shot, and you would hear the coasters (and top golf), trucks and forklifts and construction crews building sets.  To shoot Big Brother on Village property, you'd need to construct a purpose-built house somewhere back near Paradise Country, at which point you're in the same position as doing the same thing at Dreamworld.

Purpose built TV studios and film studios are not the same thing.  The current VRS lot is more like warehouses built on a car park.  They could be used for studio-based TV - something like Dancing with the Stars or The Voice, but they really are not setup for a show like Big Brother.

Sorry for the long essay, but I think it's good for people to understand the difference.

Big brother US is filmed on sound stages at CBS studios in the US which is just as busy/busier than VR studios here, they simply created a small outdoor backyard/pool area that was accessible via a single sliding door in recent years - no windows looks out etc.

it would certainly be possible to do it at Village if they wanted to make it work with only minor additions to a sound stage, with the benefit of fitting the house, camera runs and production facility within the same building.

not saying it is happening but it certainly could if they wanted to, especially if it was a multi year commitment that warranted the changes to the external of one of the stages.

as for noise from the coasters and other productions when outside, it’s largely a non-issue. On the original Aussie BB the housemates commented they could hear ToT and screams on GD. The most recent series of BB which was filmed at Sydney Olympic park literally had the backyard area backing onto a road and a major concert venue across the road
