Dreamworld & WhiteWater World Wish List

Dapto mentioned in another exhilarating conversation about getting WWW open, the need for DW to keep the foot on the accelerator because more work is necessary.

“I still think the dry park is short a few key attractions, given how many were gutted from the park in the last 10 years, in reality they have added Sky Voyager, Taipan, Jungle Rush and Flyer, refurbished the vintage cars and upgraded the claw. Does that make up for the loss of TRRR, Buzzsaw, Rocky Hollow, Wipeout and technically Eureka? I'd say it's pretty close - so maybe they are ready to start work on WWW after all?”

What key attraction is Dreamworld still lacking?

What new attractions does WhiteWater World require to get the turnstiles turning on more days of the year?

A Key attraction for dreamworld should come from finally sorting out the dead end at Ocean Parade and adding a more traditional style of dark ride that takes over the whole area of Trolls and Kevil Hill for the queue and station and expands out onto a good part of the western end of Thunderbolts plot for the main ride building. The rest of Thunderbolts plot not taken over by the dark ride should be used for WWW and include some form of a Lazy river by TOH that has been the plan since Phase 3 and a larger raft slide for the whole family akin to Mammoth falls that takes over the Shell (If it isn't used enough to justify keeping it standing) and goes out onto the eastern part of Thunderbolts plot with more of a winding layout to set it apart from Mammoth Falls. These ideas do feel like a bit of a pipe dream in terms of everything else DW needs to fix up or restore but would really help with adding a true expansion at the park that doesn't result in ride closure and fill the gaps these parks have been left with since 2020 at dreamworld and ever since WWW's opening respectively.

Dreamworld is still lacking a dark ride, a water ride, a second major thrill coaster, a second inverting thrill ride and an adults-only space like a bar.  They're also lacking shows - especially shows that aren't for little kids.

Most importantly a second themed land.  Rivertown is it.  Goldrush, Rocky Hollow and Ocean parade used to be themed lands (even if they got a bit crap toward the end), and Ocean Parade is currently a dead end with a Big Brother set.

Dreamworld needs to replace Rocky Hollow with a new water ride.  They need to fix ocean parade from the Wipeout plot around to Kevil Hill and completely remove Gold Coaster - which is a janky painful experience - and tightly integrate a new internal entrance to WWW - maybe using the land to weave coasters and slides together.

DW doesn't need to 'replace what was lost' because they also lost the chair-lift, the paddle steamer, the Tiger Island presentation, Thunderbolt, and ToT.  They need to build out new themed lands and have a good balance of attractions for kids, families and thrill seekers.

They also need to remove Motocoaster and Gold Coaster - which is honestly more of an opportunity than a loss - They don't need direct replacements, but a second family coaster, and a second thrill coaster are definitely things they'll need.

Use the old Thunderbolt plot for a WWW expansion with a lazy river and a couple more slide towers.

As Wikiverse said, Rocky Hollow needs to be replaced with a new water dark ride, Motorcoaster to be an expansion of Rivertown.

The Gold Coaster to be replaced with a custom Flying coaster, imagine weaving in and out of WWW on a flying coaster? Would be an awesome experience.

I would absolutely love that. I rode Flying Dinosaur and Acrobat when I went to Japan last month and both were great, especially the former. Probably my second favourite coaster aside from Hakugei I've written

If they did build one the operations better not be as bad as Acrobat. With that the same people operating the ride were also loading the ride and you couldn't even enter the locker room that was before the boarding gates until everyone on the previous cycle had gotten their stuff and left. Combined with 1 train operations with dual loading platforms exactly like Flying Dinosaur (which was running 4 trains) that means it was already running at 25% of its capacity, not to mention the slow boarding times.

Meanwhile Hakugei and Steel Dragon 2000 had a station set up for two trains and were running two trains. Steel Dragon 2000 was - fine, a bit slow but could be worse, Hakugei had a locker system like Flying Dinosaur where you put your belongings inside a lockers before going up to the loading platform, although you had a key connected to a wristband instead of a QR code that you put inside your pocket which I found a lot better. Ops weren't as fast as Universal but better than most other rides at the park.

For both they let you into the station before riders from the previous train had left unlike Acrobat with 1 train ops and the bad procedures. Acrobat literally had the worst operations I've seen, and that's coming from a park with not-so-good operations (especially the Arrow Corkscrew and the two Scwarzkopfs, but they aren't as bad as Acrobat)

In my opinion -

Dreamworld

  • removing gold coaster is not an option
  • removing motocoaster is not an option
  • Installing any big mega coaster (Flying Dinosaur being just one example here) isn't financially viable.
  • doing something with Trolls \ Kevil makes the most sense and cleans up that end of the park nicely
  • Any further DW expansion should make use of the rocky hollow plot before anyone thinks of cramming more shit at the end of Ocean Parade by venturing into the thunderbolt plot.
  • Ideally rocky hollow development would allow them to connect steel taipan's dead end with giant drop, forming a loop - like thunder river used to have - rather than a dead end and a long walk between the two big thrill rides.

WhiteWaterWorld

  • Needs a lazy river
  • Should utilise the shell or thunderbolt plot
  • Install a good slide tower of body slides. Use manufacturers that don't set absurdly low weight limits requiring scales everywhere.
  • Don't remove Fully 6 (at least not yet)

Are we sure if Big Brother is using that or not? Not sure on how things are going with that, if another area is being converted for the outdoor section or if that is. If Big Brother is renewed and stays inside the Exhibition Center permanently then it's likely that would remain as is.

It is being used but nothing about this seasons production seems “permanent”

For WWW I want to see them get a lazy river, ProSlide’s TornadoWAVE, a Proslide Mammoth and another tower of body slides. I think those would really complete their lineup and add something for everyone.

For DW, a high thrill lift hill coaster on the rocky hollow site, an Intamin or Mack water based attraction to replace Motocoaster (tied into Rivertown theme), and a couple rides to fill in the void/mess of the back of Ocean Parade.

I've been working on this for a while and this topic seems like the best time to share it. I've put together a bit of a wish list mock-up masterplan for Ocean Parade and the Thunderbolt plot.

DW_Plan.thumb.jpg.390bf8efabc401b5a227da72888db8e2.jpg

Ocean Parade:
Bring the water back to Ocean Parade, start with running the bulldozer through Trolls Village and Thunderbolt's station. The space could be opened up to make room for a new battle boat attraction, theming it around fishing trawlers with a twist of fantasy - Imagine Kind Claw's tentacles rising from the depths, interacting with the boats. One of the trawlers could be suspended mid-air by a tentacle. The ride station is the newly advertised "K&B Brown Ocean Parade Boatworks" teased on the wall beside King Claw. This attraction would set itself apart from the Battle Boats at SW by incorporating themed rockwork tunnels, show scenes and a unique immersive experience.  While we're at it, put some tentacles breaking out of the ground down near SS and the dodgems, I think this would be a great way to finally give Ocean parade a cohesive tie from one end to the other. King Claw has arrived and is wreaking havoc through throughout the area.

The area would also get a wharf theme (think the original Pacific Wharf at Disneyland or Mooloolaba Wharf for something more basic), with an accessible kids dry boat-themed playground (similar to the former SS Feathersword in Wiggles World) between the battle boat harbour and Gold Coaster's entry. The Kevil facade would be retained and repainted to resemble a fishmonger's loading dock, acting as the entry to a new hero attraction: a dark ride themed to the ocean depths. I'd love to see a river ride return to the coast or a trackless dark ride here with show scenes that bring guests on a journey through the underwater world, potentially with inspiration from Jora Vision's concept work for VinWonder:

Various facades that suit the wharf village theme line the park border and create a backdrop for the battle boat attraction. The boardwalk leads to the dark ride exit store which also acts as the internal gate between DW and WWW.

WWW:
Adjacent to the new internal gate, a sorely needed F&B outlet overlooks the new WWW expansion. This is themed as a tiki bar that draws on old-school Australiana (Tangaroa Terrace meets Banana Bender Pub).

A purpose-built BB house on the southern side of the property returns the DEC to dreamworld for year-round use. The mock-up shows the original BB house to scale complete with internal yard. Direct entry to the house from both parks for production as well as post-season tours. The DEC will become the live show auditorium for subsequent seasons.  BB Production facilities are all back-of-house.

The Shell is to be relocated to the Eastern side of the Thunderbolt site to allow for a new slide tower featuring a Boomerango, Tailspin+Rattler Fusion as well as a family raft slide. The mock-up features the Boomerango/Tailspin+Rattler compact layout to scale from Aqualantis and Gumbuya World.

The main expansion to WWW will see the long-awaited lazy river. The mock-up uses a scaled replica of the lazy river from Four Seasons Orlando Resort which features lush greenery and theming. This will be WWW's answer to Murrisippi Motors - rockwork, animals, lighting for night events, waterfalls and bridges across the river to secluded grassed areas and seating throughout the area. I believe if the theming is well done, this will blow Calypso Beach out of the water (pun intended). The area is a huge people eater and once gardens have grown in it will provide a great chill-out area to get out of the sun.

Back of house:
The shed located to the east of the Thunderbolt plot will need to be relocated behind Kevil and some realignment of the BOH roads is required; however the majority of the back of house facilities will remain unchanged.

DW should not be factoring Big Brother into any of their plans.  This current series starts in Nov and ends in Dec.  It's only going to be a 4-5 week run and the 'house' set will be gone before Xmas.

DW need to focus on their own core business of theme park experiences and putting in fully immersive, themed lands.  BB might bring in some short-term cash so I don't hate them doing it, but if they want to have a TV production precinct (not a terrible idea) it should be on the North end of the park as part of their rezoning/development plans, and should be designed for many different shows so it can operate year round.

I guess that comes down to $$$$

channel 10 and the production company realistically won’t make a call on longevity until ratings for the first 3-4 weeks of this season are in. If a return to its previous format brings viewers back, I can see it getting a multi-season deal which could see the DEC taken over semi-permanently (the “house” may remain year round with walk-thru available to guests in non production periods) or they may move to build a more permanent house elsewhere on the site.

If the money thrown at the them by the production company outweighs what they make from a functional events centre, they’d be silly not to accept it as it’s guaranteed revenue - what that would mean for the future of trolls village/kevil etc which I believe are being used in some capacity is yet to be seen

IMO and just my 2 cents

A high throughput family ride is dreamworld’s number 1 need. I’ve been a fan of a shoot the chutes at dreamworld for ages but a modern flume would also be a good option. Please do not put this in ocean parade when there’s plenty of space on the other end of the park that needs something big to distribute crowds

Motocoaster is not leaving it’s more likely that it is rethemed

Nebulaz where flowrider is, please and thanks

Dreamworld in my view is set for high thrill rides for now and I don’t see them installing another high thrill coaster unless they plan on pulling down Gold coaster in the near future (which they aren’t)

Kevil hill/trolls village is off limits until big brother stops using it (whether the show is canned again or production leaves dreamworld)

WWW is almost a fully fleshed out park, it just needs a lazy river, thankfully there’s a spot ready for one where they attempted to put one before.
