Thanks for the video, but a suggestion: your panning is a bit too fast. I had to pause occasionally just to see what you were getting a shot of.

I know, just think the staff were curious as to what I was doing because I just went to check it out and film and it’s a bit awkward seeing it is a dining venue aswell

It's opening weekend, and every second person would be making video/photos to share on social media. Pretty sure the staff are okay with this. All good.

I didn’t really see anyone taking photos or anything think the media came before opening day

probably could have done with it's own topic - it's relevant enough. I know Village were originally contracted to develop the top golf business in other regional centres, but obviously a few things got in the way - good to see they haven't abandoned the idea altogether... (i'm making a big assumption its a village deal, but I can't see any reason why they wouldn't be behind it)

Looks like the complex has a surf complex behind it too.

I didn't think to make a new topic but if admin wants to they can move it to its own.

UrbanSurf has been open for a few years now and its very popular attracting a lot of visitors. Will be a good activity hub

Who is operating it?

Topgolf expansion plans have been put on hold according to an article from Ausleisure:

The Village Roadshow board has reportedly halted plans to develop up to eight Topgolf venues in Australia and the Asia Pacific as a result of uncertainty over the financial performance of the first Gold Coast location.

In 2016, Village Roadshow signed an agreement with US-based Topgolf to bring the concept to Australia. Village took a 67% equity stake and provided 100% of the $35 million capital.

The company had big ambitions for the brand – and in March 2018 called on landowners to support locations for new venues. At the time, Village Entertainment Chief Executive Kirk Edwards stated "we plan to open eight venues across Australia and key APAC territories, and have been delighted to hear from multiple operators of both new and existing developments across Australia.”

The company spent $35 million on its first Topgolf venue which opened in June 2018, next to its Wet'n'Wild Gold Coast and Warner Bros. Movie World attractions.

However, the Australian Financial Review has reported that Topgolf Australia has opted to reduce its stake in the partnership from 33.3% down to 3.7% - taking Village’s exposure to 96.3%.

The AFR reports that plans to build eight Topgolf centres have now been put on hold. The news coincides with reports of disagreements between Village Roadshow Deputy Chairman, John Kirby; Executive Chairman, Robert Kirby and Chief Executive, Graham Burke.

It will most certainly be a Village operated venue. Its been in serious development discussions since at least 2021. I believe back then however it was being driven more so by the Village Entertainment side of the Melbourne side of the Village business, with a VRTP hand holding. But that has since changed is my understanding with Topgolf being solely under the VRTP corporate structure.
