How is it luck to be actively looking to replace a ride with a coaster and have one drop in your lap? YES, It's a portion of luck that one was available so easily. It isn't luck in EVEN THE SLIGHTEST that they were actively searching to replace a ride though. That's all on them, park management and the ardent board, you know, the ones who have final say on capital purchases? You can argue they got it easy, they got it cheaply, etc, but they already had to have money put aside with the desire to put into a ride purchase before they even committed to looking. Im with Jdude95. The first time it seems like the park is trying to be proactive and claw back some of their apparent mistakes, they are crucified on here because not enough is being done. In what? 2-3 months? hell, even 6 months. How much do you expect to be achieved in a short period of time? The fact they are coming out with these reports shows that capital has been assigned, and yes, I will admit I'm a sceptic until we actually see signs of delivery, but surely this has to be a step in the direction. Not too long ago people were begging the park for any announcement at all that was positive, that made it seem like someone cared at all. Hell, prior to the accident people were saying ardent (and the park) had no long term goal for dreamworld and were just floundering. These announcements seem like a pretty good plan for the next 5+ years of developments at the park. Certainly gives them something to build on to turn 5 years into 10 years. Maybe people could just stop shitting on them for just a moment until they've had a chance to fuck it all up again. That's where you are wrong. They knock it out of the park for kids, better than seaworld and miles ahead of movieworlds offering. You don't want to take a step back from something you are doing a great job at, you want to maintain it, better it if you can and build up the rest of your developments. It's honestly the first time in awhile that either group, vrtp or ardent haven't shown such a narrow focus to their future plans/spending. Movieworld got a hypercoaster, while the rest of the park is suffering visually. They put in an excellent family precinct that has largely been allowed to rot, because, you know, who needs upkeep? what are standards? They are still single minded, focusing on attractions while the rest of their parks are screaming out for a collection of smaller spends to bring facilities and park appearance up to standard. Remember 5 years ago people were laughing that it was such a big deal they were finally replacing toilet blocks? How far did that progress? Extra bathrooms? Why the hell they haven't been crucified to the same extent that dreamworld are held to task because of their poor commitments to announcements, I don't understand it.8 points

But they have built Sky Voyager, Fully 6, The chill out zone, Sidewinders getting love now, ABC kids world is getting a re model, this coaster ground works have started. Plus the whole waterpark got repainted and some love. Along with the park looking a lot fresher in parts. Plus there is more supposedly coming. The new management team can only build so much at once. Everything being done is clearly long term plans. We just gotta give them some time. I recon by the end of the year the park is gonna look completely different.8 points

To be honest, it was a fairly boring and unappealing ride once the canopy was added and the caves were removed. It looks like Dreamworld are actually planning for the future though. The government is imposing pretty tough conditions on all ride operators after TRRR - and they're being particularly strict on Dreamworld. RHLR would likely have needed some major changes to bring it up to modern safety standards. Simply adding a lap bar or seat belt would have increased load times and reduced capacity. With the current seat layout, a log would only hold 2 people, with redesigned logs, they might hold 3. You would also need additional load staff to ensure that the bar/belt was secure before allowing a vehicle to depart the station. Wider or longer ride vehicles would require redesigning the entire flume - especially the transitions into the lift hills and possibly the incline of the drop before the splashdown. The ride was also likely increasing insurance costs simply because the age and design of the ride does significantly increase the risk of injury - even if it comes from riders not following instructions to remain seated. All of this costs money - possibly millions of dollars - all to save a fairly average log flume ride. That money would be better spend on a brand new water ride, built by a reputable manufacturer, with tried and tested vehicles and safety systems. I think the current decision makers at Dreamworld know this and are actually planning for the future. I think Dreamworld is in a great position to build a new log flume that isn't just long stretches of boring floating before a drop. I'd love to see them incorporate a story like the Looney Tunes River Ride or Bermuda Triangle had, but that might be outside their budget. There are some great flume designs out there now. Some have drop tracks, some have double downs on the final drop giving floater airtime, some have LSM launches... With a bit of imagination, and all of that space, Dreamworld could build something world-class to replace RHLR.8 points

Its almost like, the people who enjoyed the log ride might not necessarily be into the coaster.7 points

@Jdude95I disagree with you on this particular thing (on the grounds that the writing has been on the wall for all these attractions for a long time and at the very least Wipeout would've been easy to replace in a short time frame). But I also get your point and where you're coming from, but it doesn't affect my time in the house that your opinion is different to mine. If you want to make the point that new management are doing the best with the shitty hand they were dealt, I think there's a conversation where some common ground may be found. But to say that the direction they're going in is good isn't backed up, and won't be till they open a new family ride, and a new coaster after they've finished building Blue Fire. For now them saying 'We're making the park better' is all talk even if they do make the place better in a few years. Again dont be sad people disagree with you. I've been saying for years that I think a shoot the chutes would be a good attraction for WnW. Exactly zero per cent of the people on this forum agree with me. That's ok, if people weren't allowed the have differing opinions from the mods we'd call the site Theme Parkz Review. We're just as opinionated as anyone though, and what's the point of a forum if it's just an endless circle jerk about how right we all always are?3 points

Man, I do miss being able to have an opinion without it being wrong because not everyone agrees with it.3 points

It's all talk and little action at this stage. How many times can you talk about removing a ride to replace it with new attractions with the latest technology, without actually taking that action, before it just looks like spin? Most of us know it's spin, and judging by comments on DW's social media, the GP is starting to realise that too3 points

Hey mate why do you rely on hyperbole so much? You said people are screeching. Next you said people expect 6 rides in place of one. Also, who was screaming for every ride to be closed? It was only kujotess on here who did that, and they were just a troll anyway and left ages ago Help me out here? Are you saying parkz forum members don't know about the coaster, or that parkz members think that 6 rides need to replace 1 or what. Can you quote the members saying this? Generally speaking, when I have observed theme park forums, people tend to expect 1 replacement for each ride closed so the ride total at least remains steady MW seems to have done that, but SW and WNW have certainly copped flack for closing stuff down without replacing most of it.3 points

Or maybe just build a good solid family water ride with no gimmicks2 points

Rides sit sbno. People complain they should just get rid of it if they arent going to fix/repair/open it. Rides removed rather than sit, degrading while nothing happens. People demand answers. Rides should be fixed and maintained not removed. Old rides running fine, people complain they are old and should be closed. Need to be replaced with something else. Old rides close. People demand answers. They are part of the history of the park and should be saved. Must be tough running a theme park in this country. 😐2 points

Another one bites the dust: Log Ride joins Dreamworld's long list of recently closed rides The Log Ride joins Tower of Terror and Wipeout as the third major ride to close at Dreamworld in twelve months and one of many in recent years. Click here to continue reading1 point

Better at what? It's a pretty generic question when it's not such a simple answer. I'll vote movieworld for their ride offerings, especially if you are an adult, but is it a better park? I don't think they have done enough with the rest of the park to say they are better. More like they have a lot of things that need addressing. It's about time they put money into facilities and amenities (here's a start, how about something simple like shaded queue lines everywhere when it's routinely passing 40 degrees ambient temps in summer?) throughout the park and give the kids area an overhaul. There have a steadily widening gap between thrill rides and proper family offerings they seemingly refuse to address.1 point

Everything DW are doing is clearly luck. SV was going to Brisbane and coaster was going to China. Shading will never replace wipeout. DW & Hot wheels deal has clearly ended so DW have no choice but to re-theme. Watetslides are public pool grade. A few kid rides cost nothing for a big theme park. Out of all areas of the park that need a redo, ABC should be on the bottom of the list.1 point

If you want to use the stairs, can’t you just easily push the gate open and walk down the stairs?1 point

Spiral queue also has the advantage of being able to hold a large number of people without the need for a long switchback queue. There's two ramps though, inside and outside so realistically no reason you couldn't get rid of one but why spend all the money when you have to pay to replace something that's working as intended now and would offer no real additional benefit.1 point

Is it just me, or is the new addition to ABC KIDS World clearly Bluey? They would make an incredibly popular character meet and greet.1 point
-
How dare they close a death trap, 2 rides not financially or logistically viable to continue operation and a 38 year old in-house designed ride!1 point

The spiral queue allows for wheel chair access, so they can’t just remove it1 point

At least we don't have to see those canopy logs anymore. But seriously, it was a great ride for the park and I hope they do replace it with a family attraction (hopefully another flume style ride), but that's what the park needs. There are thrills and kids, but nothing really in between and that's what the park needs.1 point

You can just imagine the conversation at Dreamworld HQ: "Well guys, I'd like to continue developing new experiences for guests and take proactive steps to delivery a new generation of rides and all, but it's this log ride. The log ride is why I can't do anything."1 point

This is just it though - if you aren't going to the park, this isn't bothering you.1 point

This looks bad but it is not. From a company standpoint, it helps. That staff member could be utilised within another area of the park. Plus that would not be a fun position to be in. It is not like the old days of going through the old surf shop. Sure you gotta walk back out the front (you'll be doing that anyway) and through into the water park entry but this ain't a deal-breaker.1 point

Tower was a world class ride that put the park back on the map. It gave us in a way 2 world class rides. I agree the placement was just shit, however the layout of the park made it very hard for it to go in anywhere else. What world class ride would you have put into the park DJ that had the same effect as TOT and GD had at the time? During that era it was all about going taller and faster, and it was TOT and GD that put Dreamworld on the world stage for the first time ever. So when I say “what it stood for”, that’s what I mean. I hate what it did to the park aesthetic, but I can’t stand there and ignore all the benefits it bought to that park because of the negatives that came with it.1 point

I understand that not everyone will agree with me but I also understand that it takes more than 1 month to undo over 10 years of shitty management and no investments. I'll probably die on this hill and I don't even mind. Also, I for one, welcome our new chute overlords. It would be a hell of a lot better than Surfrider... My arguments have been that the reaction to this has been a bit over the top in some cases and that the new management team is doing what they can with what they have been given. I'd imagine it would also probably be hard to finalise a 10 year+ plan when you've got the results of an inquest looming, yet to be delivered at an unknown date. I feel like once that is past and there's less unknowns (now that we at least have the date for the findings) is when we will be able to tell how much they are actually looking to the future. If we see a lack of investment and future plan then we will definitely know that they don't know how to run a park, nor care about doing so and I will accept that. It'll be a bit of a kick in the teeth but I'd accept that I was wrong putting my faith in the new management team and park as a whole.0 points

Okay, so here's my follow up questions. Can you quote where I mentioned that it was specific members on the forums? Or even where I mentioned that it was specifically anyone on the forums at all? I do believe my comments were0 points

Doesn’t matter if it a broken ride or not financially viable, closing down large amount of rides without replacing them doesn’t look good if the public wishing to visit the park, the park replaced Wipeout with seats and a bit of shade, tower of terror will Be removed and open the park up and connect wiggles world with dreamworks, log ride was running fine only real issue was the cage they added. rumoured to be closing sooner or later as well is hotwheel sidewinder as a ride that opened at Luna park Sydney in 1995 before moving to dreamworld, even know they got a new train for it and renamed it in 2015/16, but coaster has problems for years, for a ride that manufactured in Melbourne by a company called Able Leisure Pty. Ltd. How long it has left remains to be seen Also with the inquest result from thunder river rapids coming at end of months and all those waiting to start legal action against dreamworld which was reported to be around another 15 million on top of the 5 million they have paid out so far, the park spending more money on replacement rides in the near future might be heavy affected. Sky voyager replaced dreamworld cinemas but the ride isn’t a ride that you would ride over and over until they change the video0 points

Spon on. However does not change anything. A few questions: 1. Has Dreamworld done enough to win the trust back from the general public? (if not why) 2. Do you think Dreamworld if prepared enough for the inquest findings? 3. What impact will this have on Dreamworld and the theme park industry has a whole?0 points
