Movieworld Update, 19th September

Hey guys,

How are you all?

Just wanted to share some pics of my trip to Movieworld yesterday.

The park was pretty good, clean tidy, gardens well maintained.
And considering 4 rides were closed, (2 of which are major coasters), the park had a really great atmosphere, the closed rides didn’t impact on the day at all.

All the staff I came an across were really friendly.

Now for the cons,

A lot of effects on Wild West Falls either not working or out of sync with the ride.

Scooby Coaster, practically no screens working, everything else was running good.

I wish they’d tidy this up, looney tunes river shut ages ago, and maybe some benches would be nice.

And please movie world, do something with this..

A bit more on the picky side, but the little things are just as important as the big things. Arkham is gone, so this should be gone.

I know the area is closed, and this makes a good photo spot, but how I said the area is closed, get rid of this.

Nothing new on Wizard of Oz, but I know this won’t always be like this, but this looks really untidy, put up a more concealing fence to hide this from guest view.

Don’t have any pics of the area, but Doomsday looked great, but a lot of effects weren’t working, and the old game screens are sitting unused, this area needs some love, please give it some.

Only seems fitting to end on a high, this looks cool.

Even anyone is interested in reading it, this what I sent via email to Movieworld as feedback.

Hi VRTP,

I took eleven of my family members, to Movieworld yesterday as an earlier Christmas present, I just wanted to provide you guys with some feedback.
As I basically became a bit of a tour guide for my family, I didn’t get the chance to ride everything, so I’ll only review what I did ride, and what I did see.

We arrived at the 9:00am and stayed till 6:00pm, the extended hours for school holiday’s, is a great idea.
Like every visit I’ve had, the park was clean, tidy, and all the gardens were up kept nicely.
All the staff members I encountered were really friendly and were always up for a chat, (when they weren’t busy of course).

I’ll start with the picky bits:

- Roxy Theatre had quite a few bulbs blown, I’d be great to have them replaced.
- The fate of blown bulbs continued in a few shops on main street, perhaps to limit the amount blown bulbs you could replace them with LEDs (if they are not already). Alternatively you could adapt a similar tactic to what Disneyland does, they replace all light bulbs when they’re about 60-70% of their life, this insures that no blown bulbs are on display.
- Touching up the Justice League sign would be great, the blue paint is chipping and or falling off. Matching the paint and touching that up would go along way.
- Mentioned it a few times, but I’ll mention it again, the hut to the left of the entrance to kids world is an eyesore, it looks good at night with the lights on, but looks horrible at day time.
- The Road Runner Coaster viewing area could do with some benches, and removing what’s left of the Looney Tunes River Ride queue would be great.
- The old Arkham Asylum entrance signage needs to be removed, I know it’s a good photo spot, but the ride is gone.
- Demolition of the Arkham theming is good, but is quite messy. A bigger temporary fence to hide all that is something I’d look into.

How I said I’m being a bit picky here, however, the little details are just as important as the big details.

Scooby Doo Coaster:

- One of my favourite rides in the park.
- Most of the screens throughout the ride weren’t working, fixing them would be great.
- Also the main hallway connecting the station to the indoor switchback queue could really do with some love, I mentioned this in a previous review, and said the perfect time to do it would during it’s upcoming annual shutdown.

Junior Driving School:

- Personally, I don’t mind the look of this attraction the idea of driving around a miniature Movieworld is cool.
- The staff were great, but a bit slow.
- The fountain at the front of the ride has been unused for quite some time, be nice to see it working again.
- Also Arkham Asylum is gone, but still in driving school. Removing the Arkham signage, and painting the track pink to match hypercoaster would be an improvement.

Doomsday Area:

- In my mind an awesome area, however.
- There was at least on my visit a lot of effects not working. For example, scarecrow not only spoke, but also mist used to come out of the gas tank he is holding, this didn’t happen.
- Not only that, but the screen games weren’t not available, and haven’t been available for months.
- Fixing all these issues, would go along way. Don’t get my wrong the area is good, but it could be great.

Wild West Falls:

- Another one of my favourites, was great to see the crane at the beginning of the ride working, many other effects were also working, which was great.
- However, there were a lot of effects and audio that wasn’t working, and if I was I wasn’t in sync with the ride.
- Another thing, the ripped poster in the queue of this ride needs to go or be replaced.

I know your maintenance and engineering team have a lot to do, but some of the issues are not new, rather have been outstanding for quite some time. How I said the picky bits are very important.
I’m greatly looking forward to the Wizard of Oz area you guys are building, HOWEVER, the current areas and attractions are being neglected a bit, wouldn’t it be wise to look after what you have got, before getting something more. You can’t look after something new, if you can’t look after what you’ve currently got.

If you get time, watch this link. It’s an POV of Wild West Falls, the effects are all working and are in sync. It’s great, now look at what it is now, still good, but it’s got many issues.

Here are some before and after pics for you guys as well. I can tell you what I prefer, but you guys need to tell me what you prefer, and then do something about it.

I love Movieworld, but at least some of these issues need to be corrected.

Thanks for your time,
I look forward to the next time I’m welcomed into the park,

Regards,

It's surprising that they bought off the shelf TV's to put in scoobie but can't even keep them going?

If it was a complex set of projectors or LED walls with finiky processors - I'd get it... but bloody kogan TV's?

It's actually likely because they are off the shelf TVs that they break so often. Household goods aren't supposed to run like that. Look up online the differences between a house hold TV vs Commercial TV / Display board.

TLDW; Higher quality, designed for always on operation, cooling, simple/barebones OS

I work in broadcast/live events. TVs are pretty good now. Even the smart ones. In the studio I work in we have a few off the shelf TVs for monitoring over networks and stuff. 4 LGs have been on - 24/7 for 4 years now with no issues. One OLED monitor that’s worth $16k gave up just before it’s 3rd year.

Regardless - they can probably buy a new tv every hour that they don’t need to pay for staff to operate rivals rn

For someone who claims to work in the industry you think you would know they are far from off the shelf TVs.
They are actually super expensive special panels with external electronics/processors to make them thin and lightweight enough for the ride.

Im not saying they shouldn’t be working. But I can’t stand posts of ‘Im an expert so bla bla bla’ when the person is actually completely wrong.

That's really interesting, you learn something new everyday, are they difficult to operate?

If so might that explain their current state?

Can't quote the photo, but would the joker be a good photo op if he was moved over to near Batwing perhaps?

Yeah, you probably could.

What they could do is remove all the current fencing around Batwing and replace it with the brick style that's currently behind the joker. Put the name Batwing above it.

Just an idea, I'd probably look better the current fencing too.

Easy to operate once installed, like most display wall type product.
But expensive and hard to replace if damaged, so maybe that is what is currently the case?

I personally hate those screens and would be happy to see them vanish.

Oh wait are we talking about the Scrappy Doo screens? Yeah them not working drastically improves the ride.

I said "Scooby Coaster, practically no screens working, everything else was running good".

What that means is practically no screens working, so the monsters ripping the wall apart wasn't, part of the elevator screen not working, and the final screen tiki island screen not working.

Everything else on the ride was running good.

Picked out arkham in the kids driving school but didnt mention boot hill cemetary or doomsday?

I picked out Arkham because it's no longer at the park.

You are correct I didn't mention Boot Hill or doomsday, come to think of it I didn't Wild West falls, the stunt show, carousel, Yosemite train, the cover over main street.

I don't care about what they haven't put in because the miniature Movieworld, isn't very accurate anyway, but I do care if they have something that's no longer there.

For example: I don't care that don't have Doomsday, (if they did that'd be cool), but I would care if they had Gremlins Ride or tower of terror, because they either, aren't at the park or are gone from the park.

I don't think we'll see Arkham removed from the Driving School anytime soon. Why remove a chunk of theming when the average person won't even click that it's meant to be a ride reference? They'll be happy enough just to see Batman and Joker. Maybe closer to Oz's opening?

You could probably say the same for the Joker statue near Superman. Makes no sense being there, but still provides a solid photo op.

With the Joker statue, all you need to do is remove the word 'Entrance' and you'd get away with it. Ideally better placed near Doomsday or Rivals queue since that courtyard is now well and truly Superman town, but yeah, you'd get away with it there. Also if you move it theres the always fun question of 'does that version of Joker fit with the joker in the new area' blah blah

Yeah, nah.  Not so much.  If you're talking domestic units then you expect to find them either;

  • On the wrong input.
  • Not turned on.
  • Calibration miles out.
  • Backlight burn-out.
  • Poor (fine) image quality.

What it doesn't change is what you're feeding them, and the vast majority of reports suggest bad sync, frozen image and low framerate; none of which are the issue of the display.

You could just remove the wording, yes. But as you said “that courtyard is now well and truly super man town”.

So, I’d be out of place. The only way to solve that issue would be removing it.

Woohoo, just what this forum needs. Another theme park AV expert.

Citation needed. From my only memory of being in the park across the last three years and scooby being opened … once … they looked like pretty bog standard tv’s to me. Kogan’s 42” TVs are just over six kegs.

No Citation is not needed, that is what they are.

You are the one that came and stated as fact something that was incorrect based on pure assumption. I am merely correcting you.

Ive done my time here and don’t need to provide justification for any info or facts I provide. People can choose to accept them or not, but to not do so would be foolish.
