The Flash: Speed Force coming to Movie World
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to a topic in Theme Park Discussion
There's always going to be things that happen after a ride is officially opened. Check out TT2... The other thing to bear in mind is that we rarely have ride grand openings in cold and flu season either. Chances are they're working on opening crew and haven't had a chance to upskill other operators yet. One critical person gets sick and the whole thing can fall over. What they have learned from Levi is that grand opening in a less-peak period means the impacts are not felt as hard, and they've got plenty of time to iron out the kinks before the next school holiday period starts. -

@Dean Barnettdid a great thing opening the ride early. Why are you making song and dance on how they did it? -

If DC Rivals had a massive Matainence period and things done to it like when DW did for the Giant Drop that would make sense to do some reopening announcement. Considering Rivals is not that old this is unlikley. your basicaly saying if Green Lantern Broke down and reopend a hour later Movie World should do a big announcement. Green Lantern has just reopened but at least we did a announcement for Dean. Moive World might tweet on their socials it has reopned but to make a big thing about a ride reopening from matainence even if its their star atrraction makes no sense to make a big deal out of it. Incase you missed the countless other discussions about scooby its closed cause the ride has gone past its lifespan. The state of the ride is not fit for purpose they dont close it for fun. -
I can't find one photo MW posted of the Flash, while the track was going up. 🤔 Care to share the post?

It was to the post above it - how rivals opened early. The script could have been “we’re looking at opening rivals as soon as possible” - not “we’re going to announce when we think it will open”. They never the reopening - it just opened. Still surprised with the sudden closure of scooby - when their maintenance closures are so frequent. -

I'd love to hear where exactly you heard this. it sounds like you just made it up. (for all the reasons already explained in the thread) Intamin are quite a large company. They have different 'classes' or 'grades' of rides. They don't just have one technician that knows everything about every ride they've ever made. The team that would need to work on Doomsday would be unlikely to know anything about Superman, etc etc. Also they're multi million dollar rides. A return flight from Europe to Aus is a drop in the maintenance ocean. Yes. Because the maintenance team working on the ride may not have been able to give a firm date when they'd be ready to sign off? Because they've been told 'get it open as fast as you can' and they've done that, but promising a date that they miss because something isn't ready looks bad, and saying it'll open on May 29th is stupid if its ready a week earlier? They frequently run two trains, and as a matter of fact were running two trains on the weekend. As for scooby, as has been pointed out numerous times - it was a forced closure and their time in the build pipeline is not yet here. There is no point gutting the ride now only to let the stage sit empty for x months. When the new parts arrive, bring in the machines, do it all in one go and save some cash. I tell you what - for someone who claims to be such an expert in how to run a theme park you have no fucking idea about how anything in a theme park actually works. You really aren't. What exactly are you referring to? Everything in this thread has made perfect sense except your whinging. -

Disney Expanding Footprint Name In Australia

Which is funny, given the reaction the locals had to the VRTP proposal, can you imagine their reaction to a bigger player? Truthfully, Disney would never be possible due to the government funding that Disney would ask for. I do think Universal would be willing to partner on a project if there were a local willing to pay for it - ala Resorts World. So if someone like Gina Reinhart lobbied to build a 'precinct' that included a casino, entertainment precinct, hotels and a Universal park, I reckon she'd get the gaming licence and permission to build and boom. but thats a lot of big 'if's Sydney-born here. It's a Harbour. And plenty of people care, but Sydney as it stands is built out. Your options right now are either next to the second airport (and land has become stupidly expensive out there for obvious reasons) or you have to leave the basin - cross the mountains, or head down or up the coast. All of those options are very poor choices. Sydney had the makings. Wonderland was part government owned at one time, but the Taft split ultimately forced the sale and the rest is history. There is no longer an opportunity to build ground-up. that ship has sailed. -

They’re also renovating the facade of other buildings down Main Street. Didn’t get pics, but the facades next to the surf shop, opposite the Claw and currently behind a showbags truck are all fenced off and being renovated.- 3 replies

This area is wholly surrounded - between tiger island, the ToT building etc - the entire area is a construction site, so its probably not 'as' easy to get a random marketing person with a camera into all the various different angles, though granted MW even had a camera mounted on their crane. It's lower effort, but then, they probably can't afford the dedicated marketing team given their rides are actually running at the moment...

I think his comment is about the lack of angles the park put out in their video with no context.

The only viable area with enough land close to the city would be Hamilton, and you could build it as a destination alongside the athletes village for the Olympics. It could tie-in with Eat Street. It would only ever be small because it is landlocked, and directly under the flight path. But honestly, Brisbane is saturated for shopping centres. That area is an easy drive to DFO, Chermside and Carindale across the gateway, and there just isn't much of an appetite for 'small' parks in Brisbane when the major theme parks are so close. The Gold Coast can barely even get smaller attractions like mini-golf and a slingshot to survive with it's booming population. Australia just doesn't have the population to sustain a Universal or Disney park. Our current parks are dead on most weekdays outside of school holidays. The US has much larger international tourist numbers, and a local population of over 300 Million. China has 1.5 Billion, Japan has 125 Million with another 50M in Korea a short flight away, Singapore is central to Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Phillippines, with a combined population of over 400 Million, Europe has over 400 Million. A tiny country with barely 26 Million people is just not going to sustain a Disney/Universal park. They're bigger and better themed, but with much higher operating and maintenance costs - which would be made worse by Australia's high minimum wage/super costs and highly volatile currency exchange rates. They'd be bankrupt within a few years. Plus, Australians love traveling overseas and have proven that they will go to Singapore/Japan/US/China to visit a Disney/Universal park. Disney also don't own their international parks outright. They're co-owned with local governments, usually with Disney holding a minority stake (which is why Disney can't tear down Splash Mountain in Tokyo like they did in America). If the Australian Govt decided to pay the construction costs, Disney would look at an Australian park, but there is exactly 0% chance of that happening. Even the joint-venture Universal Studios Dubai couldn't get off the ground and they have more money than God. The best you could hope for is a Disney-themed cruise terminal if they choose to significantly expand their cruise operations here. -

Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point "Closing"
Dean Barnett replied to Coasterjoe's topic in Theme Park Discussion
To me - this evidence strongly suggests that the bogies are causing the problem, leading to the train shaking and exceeding the LSM clearance tolerances. They tested this by taping some LSMs to check for contact with the train, which indeed occurred. This is why they were running the train without passengers a few days ago. -

I feel like a themed shopping experience with a couple rides could happen maybe as a new park. Have like a Venice area and a few other areas. All open (very popular in malls atm) and a small vekoma thrill coaster and a small family coaster. A flat or two. as it's mostly a shopping venue with a few rides too. Could also host shows and have room to expand the rides in the future. Not sure where it could go. Sydney's land is probably too expensive now. Maybe Brisbane could pull it off. -

I think some people have suggested Merlin buy Dreamworld and do an Elitch Gardens style conversion into "Legoland Australia"? Only problem is Legoland parks aren't very thrill-heavy unlike Dreamworld, but I'm sure they could somehow do it. -
Village roadshow need better merchandise for their rides.

Agree. Would love some display pieces. You know those led lamps with the plastic cut out that lights up? I know they are cheesy and kinda ugly but they could do some cool stuff with them. Joker face for example And stickers! We need some stickers. They have come back in trend lately with teenagers . Especially the 90s skater style stickers. -

I wonder how Melbourne's Legoland Discovery Centre operates, because I have always felt a small Legoland park could do really well.
