  1. Well we have theming! Also guessing he meant “Atlantis”

  2. I don't think any attempt is being made to make it immersive. It's some rides with decorations. You can't do an immersive themed land in the location they're trying to do it, because most of the view is of the back of the Island with the ugly ass shed and the main entrance. Trying to do immersive there won't work, and I don't think they're even trying from what I've seen. I mean the fence around the Ski Lake looks like it came from a really nice busstop at Westfield, but there's nothing 'Atlantis' about it. It's one of the reasons I advocated for a Pier theme years ago, because no matter what you do there it'll be generic, so make the theme generic so it fits and works in the area. If you wanted to do Atlantis as an immersive themed land, Corkacrew's footprint taking over Jet Rescue and the Pirate Ship area would be a better spot for it since you can control the sight lines and pack some proper detail in. It's not the theme I'd go with (I'd make it a 1700's docks theme with rides themed off myths, exploring and adventures), but Atlantis would totally work there. With the New Atlantis it looks like they're going for pleasantly decorated with a loose theme, not immersive themed land.

  3. Rant time: Where did he pull those 'Half capacity' figures from? 7000 people at MW is hella busy. The idea that it's 'Half capacity' is bullshit. I wouldnt go to MW on a nornal day if attendance was 7000. I shudder to think what 7000 looks like when HSD or Roxy are running at half capacity, no character meet and greets, and no parade (this is based of Disney's plan) and more than likely no Arkham. Something as giving the cars of each ride a quick spray with disinfectant between cycles will blow out cycle times on everything across the whole park. And you want to have 7000 in that environment? Just for perspective; Even something like a Fright Nights or a White Christmas where the park is RAMMED would run close to 7000. 14,000 is something you'd see MAYBE for one or two peak season days in January. Most days even in January would be well under 10,000. Having a cap of 7000 people at MW is basically saying the plan is to return to business as normal. It would be like the Titans saying they'll limit attendance at home games to half of capacity so 13500, even though that's more than the average number of people who go to their games most weeks, and then acting like its a sacrifice and you're being responsoble because the stadium technically can fit 27,000. Similarly, the idea that SW's capacity is 6000 is also simply not true. Weirdly their capacity is way higher than that, so at least there 3000 is a tight cap, but what's the point? It's the roomiest park on the Gold Coast and a few choke points aside, one of the best for social distancing. Oh but they don't draw 5000 people on average so better to give 2000 of their cap to MW so their earlier statements that the parks need to be allowed 5000 a day still add up. You want to know what 'We're taking our role in stopping the spread seriously and are putting in place a serious plan' looks like? Somewhere between 1 and 3 thousand people. Should still be easily profitable (particularly when you don't have to pay staff the first $1500 of their wages a fortnight, meaning the vast majority of staff are actually free or very close to it). You want to know what 'We want to be allowed to operate as normal' looks like? 7000 at MW and 3000 at SW a day. Also someone poke them with a broom and remind them they own WnW.

  5. let's hope that that day is a loooooong way off. Demolishing wild west would be a big loss for the park, even though it isn't popular in winter, its the one family level attraction enjoyable for all, with mild thrill and an ability to cool off in summer.

  6. The statue looks awesome, as they always do. I just hope they fill the area with varying plants to make it immersive and feel like your in another world

  7. Depending on the size of that, it looks really cool, but I think perspective is at play here and looks a bit bigger than I hope it is.

  8. Take a good look.... by all accounts that's probably the biggest Trident we're going to 'sea' here...

  9. the 'mid course brake run' doesn't have to be removed, if it's never installed in the first place.... Heck, if you check the blue fire model group in RCDB (https://rcdb.com/r.htm?ot=2&mo=12376) You'll see that most of the models shown only have 2 trains. Only the megacoaster has more than 3.

  10. When construction of the new coaster starts, i think some sort of time-lapse might be cool to watch.

  13. Alright well you're going to add a water ride, where do you put it? You could put it in Blue Lagoon and have that anchor the area, but look at Movie World to see the result. In winter MW shrinks because there's no reason to go past Scooby. There's a lot of park that barely gets used, so if you're DW and adding a new area of the park, do you make it something that'll barely be used most of the year? That's also based on Blue Lagoon being available to the park. Could go DreamWorks land, but space is an issue. Maybe if you did some extensive reworking you could fit it in. Could also replace Log Ride with a water ride but it's time to reinvent DW. A coaster should go there to replace Log Ride. It gets the thrill rides out of Ocean Parade, and would leave Giant Drop, Steel Taipan, Unknown Steel Coaster and Buzzsaw all on the same side of the park. Where else is left to put it? Ocean Parade. It's a themed land based on water. Duh. The fact it's next to the water park and some guests in that area would be well dressed for a drenching water ride is a bonus, but not the main point. The main factor is it would compliment the rides in Ocean Parade well, add to the theme and succeed in reinventing the park rather than just being a variation on the past. Also a power splash is the wrong ride for DW for now and probably forever. Height restriction is too high, it's too intimidating for the whole family, is too expensive and doesn't add much in terms of kenetic energy. A boomerang is also a poor choice for DW. A boomerang is a great ride for an up and coming regional park, like an Aussie World or the plethora of small parks in Victoria, but it's too low a standard for a Gold Coast park.

  14. Isn't Shockwave supposed to be a electrical storm surge also Tailspin themed to sea planes? Yeah, Ocean Parade isn't perfect but the theme is there

  15. Still a bit of work to go before the area looks like its inspiration. 10 points for trying though.

  16. What looks disappointing is the queue area. The shade structure doesn’t look like anything special, when I feel like they could have done some interesting for work to create to columns and the roof to be something like what they did with Doomsday.

  18. What about Big Dipper? Crazy neighbors screaming in their noses into a copy of the ride! Going, "THE NOISE" "PLEASE MR BLOOD, HELP US" "THE BIG DIPPER, AND THE MONORAIL ARE THE MOST OFFENSIVE STRUCTURE, TO EYESAW OUR CITY, SINCE THE CAHILL EXPRESSWAY COASTED OF SYDNEY HARBOR" "MY EYES ARE BOILING" "MR DUCK, TEAR DOWN THIS PARK" "I FEEL I AM NOT ALONE" "DEMOLISH THE SPRITES OR WHATEVER THE NAME IS"! No roller coaster like The Big Dipper has existed in Sydney, or in NSW since!

  21. Eagle-eyed viewers will also notice there is only one storage bay in the render of the coaster. Obviously it's just tentative, but could also indicate there will only be 2 trains.

  22. The catchcar platform (the thing with the safety railings at the top of the lift unit) is found on many giant drop units - as seen here on Blue Fall. Some smaller towers didn't have them fitted permanently (Space probe had a separate maintenance basket that could be attached to any of the catchcars). My guess (and I am only guessing) is that the railings on the catchcar platform are probably some OH&S thing as it is a platform at height and has been decreed to require fixed railings. As for the mesh shown over the riders, I assume a 'loose item' protection should something fall from the tower or catchcar. There have been a number of cable snaps over the years on the Intamin drop models (including on Space Probe) and this may also be some form of protection for those sorts of incidents too...

  25. Honestly - building an office tower on property has a lot of issues - they'd be better off determining what functions need to be onsite, and moving the rest into a generic office building in a neighboring business park - Back in the day of envelopes of cash on pay day, your pay office had to be where the workers were - now everything is EFT, your payroll team can be offsite. You can move marketing offsite, human resources and recruitment could be offsite if you needed to use the spaces that they're currently using... As for a multideck carpark - I think they'd planned to do something like that, but they needed their overflow carpark up and running for extra capacity while they did it - and we all know what happened to that plan... The entire Oxenford site is one lot. The issue expanding back towards paradise country is that directly behind WWF you have the water reservoirs mentioned earlier. Apparently West uses one of them for overflow, so moving it isn't really an option, and then you have the studio and support buildings to the side to think about too. If they're not going to use showstage AS a showstage, I think it would be best to remove it and develop that into the next expansion plot, which would tie in well with the fright night maze sheds, and potentially have them used at other times of the year for various things.

  26. Couldn’t agree more @joz. Those numbers are insanely high and why have those limits when they aren’t going to get those crowds day 1 anyways. I would imagine on a standard weekday they’d only get around 1000 people. So why not start off with that as a limit, to trial the ways social distancing have been implemented across the park. Then increase it every month.

  27. Nah man, 10 guys, a couple cartons, we'll get it done in a few hours

  28. The latter was my take on it. similar to how the Trident concept shows fountains coming out of what would be the loading area once the ride is in the air.

  30. I know we obviously weren't expecting the level of theming as seen in the original artworks for the area, but I can't be the only one who thinks this all looks pretty cheap and tacky so far? I understand it's only the Vortex area, but I mean, that could not be any further from the concept art.

  31. For me the rationale has nothing to do with the water park. Its because it's called OCEAN Parade and is devoid of anything to do with the Ocean...

  32. Just wanted to say, i really appreciate people who do this. For people who seriously want to make Wikipedia as accurate as possible, it would take quite a bit of your own time just doing it. So thank you.

  35. Welcome @Bikash Randhawa, it’s nice to see a civil side to you. Putting differences aside, it’s good to see a park rep join a discussion here. Hopefully you stick around and show more of this side. I think a lot of people will appreciate seeing the more human side of the COO. Maybe one day we could sit down for beers or something? 🤝

  36. If it makes it better, I’m one of those essential workers and I’m exposed to hundreds (sometimes thousands) of people a day. So me stopping by on my way to said work, especially at 6am when there is no one around, won’t impact anyone. But I do get your point @Skeeta

  37. There are other parts near BuzzSaw too, including the bolts that secure the columns into the foundations

  38. With the parks closure, DW should try keep the hype going for upcoming attractions etc, to get people excited about new things when the park reopens. I think they should take this opportunity to announce the attractions name/theme and start sharing posts that ride parts are beginning to arrive. Even if construction won’t begin for a while, at least get the hype train going

  40. I’d say that Vortex will just open when it’s ready, no matter what time of the year that is. I would imagine there will be another 4-6 of construction/testing before it opens (once the parks reopen). Leviathan, that’ll probably have major delays. Depending on how long they remain closed for it could be Easter next year, but I would expect it to be pushed back until late next year. Which could mean Trident will be pushed back again to either Summer 2021 or Easter 2022.

  41. It doesn’t look like anything is happening on vortex, but as you say, they may possibly working on the ground works for leviathan. But I can’t imagine there would be anything major going on

  42. What about a Tom & Jerry themed attraction since the park now features the characters? I definitely think the whole area highlighted on the map needs reworking. So much under utilised space which is essential for the park. SW and DW have such great kids areas that have both been updated many times over the last couple of decades, and yet MWs has hardly changed. I agree that Sam's should stay as that is still a pretty decent attraction. Tweety's has just had a refurb, so that'll last for a while. But they could easily get another 3-4 new attractions. They should also sort out that corner at the start of the area. Its a mess and looks cheap.

  44. Yeah, but that shows art for a ride that is no longer part of the plans so it kinda hard to go by concept art for the area anymore as a guide to how it will turn out.
