  1. ^ Thanks Alright, so a while back in one of these threads you may remember we were getting some messages from Dreamworld's social media team that I was relaying between them and Parkz. Then they went quiet and I didn't hear back from them for a while. I got a nice reply from them on Tuesday which I got sidetracked and didn't mention on here. You may also remember that I asked for photos which were not provided. The reason being the maintenance guys were under pressure to get everything done on time and now obviously they're still quite busy with a few rides down currently. That's fair enough. If it wasn't for the crappy weather outlook for the weekend I'd try to get some pics myself (of whatever is safe to do so obviously). The person who's been responding to me calls themselves "The Original Belinda" and there is a possibility they will join the forums in an official capacity if time permits. The good news is, judging by the response above, they already know we're a little crazy. They also know that they're going to be inundated with questions around Eureka which will get old and annoying fast and quite possibly make them run for the hills, so lets try to play nice. Also a lot of us, myself included, don't always have a perfect track record with new members making claims they're from a particular area/park/team/where ever. So, if they do join officially let's try not to be too rude to them, and maybe, just maybe we can develop a great relationship with them like we have with Mark Shaw. Finally, just to get the obvious out of the way so no one else has to.... Dear Original Belinda 1 - Why did the mine ride close? 2 - When will the mine ride open again? 3 - Why hasn't the mine ride opened already? 4 - Why haven't you gotten rid of the motocoaster? 5 - Why haven't you moved the vintage cars back where they were and gotten rid of the motocoaster? 6 - Why are you still reading this when you could be reopening the mine ride? 7 - Is the mine ride open yet?

  2. 9. Why is the motocoaster still there? lol. But seriously - We need an 'official' rep from the parks here. I'm not saying they should weigh into every discussion, and clearly there are things that can't be discussed - but there are also very simple things that could be - like "we will eventually paint over the patch on the wipeout that was repaired" or "we're installing these rails on the rapids to improve safety and reduce instances of rafts entering the holding pond" etc or 'that new structure next to the new ride we're building will be a shop'. I totally get that things can't always be revealed, but it would be good to have a source for things than can be answered as many discussions here roll around in endless speculation for weeks when a quick question on facebook gets an answer in less than a day. I hope to see 'the original Belinda' on the boards soon...

  3. ^That idea sounds plausible, and I really think that entering through a building into the space would really add to the experience of it all. With them all being villains, you'd want to keep them in an enclosed area and not have it open where they could escape.

  5. Rabbits and deer are what I saw. The bird life was impressive too. To me, that's charming. It sounds like the attack took place near the Grand Floridian which is around the Seven Seas Lagoon (which is huge). They often dress the lakes up to look like white sand beaches, but they usually have signs up warning guests to not go in the water. Very unfortunate.

  6. According to the Daily Mail article (God help me), the waterways in Disney are regularly patrolled and alligators found are relocated. However, as they are quite shy creatures, some can slip through. Apparently there's also metal screening to try and stop them getting near tourist-heavy areas. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem all the safeguards were enough in this case. As an aside, the article also points out that this isn't the first alligator attack in Disney World - back in 1986 there was a non-fatal incident at Fort Wilderness.

  7. They have now killed 4 gators with still no sign of the child (who is obviously gone sadly) I don't find the idea of wildlife roaming through the resorts charming at all, I think it's quite irresponsible, especially to hold events right on alligator infested waters. I guess there would be signs around? and people would be aware of the risks. I've just never thought about it before or considered you would need to worry about being eaten by an alligator at a Disney resort.

  8. There's lots of wildlife that wanders through the resorts and the green space in between them. That's part of the charm, normally.

  9. Walt Disney World is not bound by wire fencing. Instead, it has been established around and within a swampy land mass that can be compared to a nature reserve. Alligators roam relatively freely within the resort due to this reason.

  12. Both Universal & Movie World have done Saw, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Walking Dead, The Evil Dead and Friday the 13th and honestly I feel like Movie World does a way better job than Universal.

  13. Disney's seperate loading areas are nothing to do with being more accepting and all to do with not affecting the efficiency of the ride. This just isn't feasible in Australia with our much smaller budgets. Adding those extra loading areas would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not more. Thats doable on a 100 million dollar attraction, but not on a 10 million dollar ride. You our also have many more 'disabled' people in America (I say that because over there "I'm too fat to walk" is considered disabled) due to a higher population so you need to cater for that. Add to that the inability the US has to say NO to anyone about anything and that's where you get this perception they are more accomodating.

  16. The video @reanimated35 refers to is the one where a girl, with disabilities, is not allowed to go on some rides at Dreamworld. Not the full amount, but certainly none of the bigger thrill rides. However, apparently she is allowed to go on the same rides (or at least one of the same rides - a Disk-o, I think) at her home park of Rainbows End in Auckland, NZ. Is one of those parks breaking their H&S rules? If a person unfortunately has disabilities, it may well be unsafe for them to ride particular rides (depending on the ride in question, and their disabilities). Yes, they may well have been on the same ride 99 times and everything has gone smoothly, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will on the hundredth time. Any remotely sane company should err on the side of caution, and I find the attitude taken by the girls in the video (and their parents for not correcting them, or doing any semblance of research before the visit - way to go, parents!) annoyingly entitled. As for the person involved in the log ride incident, well we still don't know what happened. If he does have disabilities or handicaps which would have meant he was more inclined to stand up, well: 1 - were Dreamworld made aware of this, and if so why did they let him on the ride? 2 - if Dreamworld weren't made aware of this, why not? 3 - assuming he had a carer (and if not, why not?), why did his carer let him on the ride and not supervise him properly? If he doesn't have any disabilities which impacted his thinking, then he was just being a prat. I do hope he's fine and everything, but Dreamworld owes him nothing when probably hundreds of thousands of visitors go on that ride annually and don't injure themselves by trying to show off.

  17. I love how every time POP makes a thread, his reputation goes down, and the rest of our's go up. It's almost as if POP's giving his reputation to us. How kind.

  22. An ambulance car and 2 stalls (same as carnivale but halloween themed) have been added outside the bank to sell the signiture foods and at starts cafe a sign has been added for ultimate terror tour. There's no cages outside anymore for dancers either. There's also an old style black car outside stars cafe (don't know what kind ofcar but it's new and for fright night)
