I don't think any attempt is being made to make it immersive. It's some rides with decorations. You can't do an immersive themed land in the location they're trying to do it, because most of the view is of the back of the Island with the ugly ass shed and the main entrance. Trying to do immersive there won't work, and I don't think they're even trying from what I've seen. I mean the fence around the Ski Lake looks like it came from a really nice busstop at Westfield, but there's nothing 'Atlantis' about it. It's one of the reasons I advocated for a Pier theme years ago, because no matter what you do there it'll be generic, so make the theme generic so it fits and works in the area. If you wanted to do Atlantis as an immersive themed land, Corkacrew's footprint taking over Jet Rescue and the Pirate Ship area would be a better spot for it since you can control the sight lines and pack some proper detail in. It's not the theme I'd go with (I'd make it a 1700's docks theme with rides themed off myths, exploring and adventures), but Atlantis would totally work there. With the New Atlantis it looks like they're going for pleasantly decorated with a loose theme, not immersive themed land.7 points

We were never going to get what was originally promised. The way each concept has changed so rapidly, and everything has been rather vague, you are in denial if you think Covid has had made them change the plans for what we see today. Sure future additions may be adjusted, but what we get for Vortex is what was originally intended. Smoke and mirrors people.4 points

Who needs practical anymore? we'll just fix it in post! The New Atlantis will issue every guest a pair of VR goggles from the now defunct Arkham Asylum and all immersive theming will be delivered digitally. And they won't run out of VR goggles because due to COVID, Atlantis will be limited to the capacity of 2 x Arkham trains.3 points

Still a bit of work to go before the area looks like its inspiration. 10 points for trying though.3 points

Ahh but you see... perspective is what’s it’s all about. that guy crossed the road in front of me after he clocked off...3 points

From past experience working there, a "normal" weekday attendance for Movie World was about 2,000 - 2,500. On a weekend was about 3,000 - 4,000. Any more than about 5,000 predicted they would be making sure to have 2 trains on rides where possible. Any more than 7,000 you'd be adding a third HSD show. This is back in 2012 days though before Rivals, Doomsday etc. I think the busiest day capacity wise that they had whilst I was there was something insane like 12,000. I was working Batwing and that was an incredibly long shift (8:45am start... 7:15pm finish, and we closed the queue at 6pm). Was certainly a strange day having Batwing run with 2 loaders and the supervisor. Not something that happens often except maybe on a very busy Fright Nights (which capacity I think was 8,000 a night - if i'm not mistaken). So really, a reduced capacity of 1,500 - 2,000 is not going to break the park as many days of the week that's pretty much normal operations.2 points

I think the fact that no park in Australia has ever bought more than 2 trains and the park that isn’t broke down the road still only bought 2 for rivals indicates that it will only have 2 trains. I expect they’ll run 2 trains for the first two weeks it’s open and then about 5 days a year after that.2 points

Pretty sure when they were planning the area 12+ months ago they were not factoring in months of zero revenues and operating at a loss for half a year.. we’ll never know if had covid-19 not hit we would have had exactly as originally planned (unlikely) but it’s fair to say some of the additional elements that would have added to the immersion have no doubt has to be cut, and that’s understandable.2 points

All references of the Monorail has been removed from the Sea World website. This includes in the attraction listing and it has been removed from the park map.1 point

As a thread hijack, if you haven't seen how most of "The Mandalorian" was filmed, check out the docos and webpages on "The Volume". Impressive shit, real time CGI backgrounds that adapt to the camera position.1 point

I did have a stint back in 2006 working at Stars Cafe (before Ben and Jerrys, and the roof) and it was similar. I remember them actually doing 5x Police Academy shows in a day back then. I then went back from 2011 - 2013 and it certainly felt very different for many reasons (some good, some bad). I'd hate to be a visitor at the park with more than 12,000 people... I think that was around when Green Lemon* I mean Lantern first opened and they were trying so hard to run that thing with 6 cars on the track at a time... needless to say, there's a reason it only runs with 4 Same capacity basically, and runs much more reliable now. The amount of times I heard the ride stop spiel playing from that ride from the Batwing booth in those days... good times. Until everyone left the queue and bee-lined to batwing!1 point

Fair play for admitting you read it wrong, a lot of people double down 👍🏻1 point

I realised I miss read the statement upon further reading. But I do hope we see now with Greg being at Dreamworld it running 2 trains in at least the summer holidays being what will be the parks most popular ride (along with SV)1 point

That's a really strange ending to the post. It comes across as you saw the comment that it'll probably run 1 train as a DW V Village thing?1 point

I'm waiting for them to hit their head on the bar and knock it back on the ground where they normally set it1 point

That's very telling @themagician thanks for posting. Expectations were set high. Like the new kids area, or the splash pad, this is 'really nice westfield'.1 point

The idea is probably tell the government we need 7000 and then maybe they’ll give us 30001 point

What about Big Dipper? Crazy neighbors screaming in their noses into a copy of the ride! Going, "THE NOISE" "PLEASE MR BLOOD, HELP US" "THE BIG DIPPER, AND THE MONORAIL ARE THE MOST OFFENSIVE STRUCTURE, TO EYESAW OUR CITY, SINCE THE CAHILL EXPRESSWAY COASTED OF SYDNEY HARBOR" "MY EYES ARE BOILING" "MR DUCK, TEAR DOWN THIS PARK" "I FEEL I AM NOT ALONE" "DEMOLISH THE SPRITES OR WHATEVER THE NAME IS"! No roller coaster like The Big Dipper has existed in Sydney, or in NSW since!1 point

Shrek 4-d required a renovation as a minimum because the entire pre-show animatronic elements were installed, as was the finale animatronic in the speaker near the exit on conclusion of the film (i think it was a tinkerbell style fairy stuck in the speaker) - so it stands to reason that a "renovation" occurred by that logic alone. whether the seats, carpet, or anything else was changed, i couldn't tell you, but the pre and post show elements are proof enough. As for WWF - the 'Rio Bravo' mountain theme is nowhere to be found in the storyline of the Wild West film. The 'old miner' "git out" scenes are likewise unrelated to the film. The pre-show (I never saw it) was reportedly film related but still otherwise unrelated to the ride, and likewise the ghost town, with the indian village, and 'ghost' action scenes have nothing to do with the film either. Where you will find Rio Bravo is in Parque Warner Madrid - The Rio Bravo flume ride, which while it does have it's differences, shares pretty much the same overall layout (with the same scenes in the same order - reverse track turnaround, rail bridge, indian village, ghost town, back into the mountain) - http://www.thethemeparkguy.com/park/parque-warner-madrid/photos (I'm pretty sure the town is even the same - "dodge city" with the same population gag) It's clearly an identical ride in almost every way possible, except Madrid kept the originally intended name, given the film flopped and Madrid opened 3 years after it was released.... Although some theme elements have minor differences (no 'old faithful'... although these days MW's version doesn't have it either...) it is still very much the same ride. I'm sure much of Wild West has been discussed here, but you'll probably find it's more LORE than LAW. Much of the info shared would come from former staff of the park, who were present at the time. It's highly unlikely it would be documented anywhere accessible to the public, and the park isn't likely to confirm it.1 point

the mcbr is not removable and it can and most likely will have 3 trains not 2 heck it might even have 4 trains1 point
-
let's hope that that day is a loooooong way off. Demolishing wild west would be a big loss for the park, even though it isn't popular in winter, its the one family level attraction enjoyable for all, with mild thrill and an ability to cool off in summer.1 point

I think moving the studios wouldn't happen unless someone else paid for it. I think studios admins is a prime candidate to be moved, as are sound stages 1 & 2 (again presuming someone else pays for it). Also just throwing it out there, Movie World was pure rubbish until Scooby was built, and still througherly shit until Superman was built. I'm old enough that I grew up with SW and DW at their peak, so when Movie World opened I was super excited that there was another theme park! Truthfully I was so dissapointed with how lifeless and boring the place was. Zero kinetic energy, bland everything, small, no big rides and absolutely zero charm. It felt fake, whereas DW and SW were somehow real. SW and DW were both built with passion too, that somehow flowed into the parks. I didn't know what soulless corporate theme park was at the time but MW introduced me to it. Even a few years later when they did get a big ride, it felt really removed from the everything. Lethal Weapon when it opebed added nothing to the excitement of the rest of the park as you couldn't see it from anywhere, and to get too it you had to do a long walk up the alley which was brilliantly themed to a place you wouldn't want to spend time. In the middle of the day there was no shade and I have vivid memories of air conditioning units. The preshow also destroyed any rerideability it may have had and just killed the excitement. Loved the ride as a kid, but the experience was pretty poor. Anyone who wants the good old days to come back at MW seriously was either not born yet and thinks the park was cool because of how different it was, or are looking at it through nostalgia goggles. Most likely they worked there. The MW with Rivals in it is by far the best MW, even when you take into account all the stuff in MW where the replacement was a downgrade. Oh by the way, the complete list of things that were better than their replacements is as follows: Police Academy Batman Adventure River Ride Western Action Stunt show/Maverick. Everything else that closed at MW, the thing that replaced it is a step up. The only thing from the past I'd support is I would totally support them figuring out a way to do a studio tour as a broad appeal, realtively low cost addition to the park in the future. Might need a lot of privacy walls and props on the side of the tram facing away from the studios for when something is filming but reckon it could be done.1 point

Isn't Shockwave supposed to be a electrical storm surge also Tailspin themed to sea planes? Yeah, Ocean Parade isn't perfect but the theme is there1 point

@AlexB well in that case, yep, track will be in the carpark around the bus station area1 point
-
Would they use the carpark though? They’ve got a lake between the carpark and the site. They’ve created a site entry point along SW Drive, so they may be storing all of it on the Sea Viper site1 point
-
@Gazza exactly, why go to the effort of completely removing from the park map too1 point
-
Apparently it’s just because of the coaster construction and track is required to be removed/modified for it. I thought they said all construction had stopped? And why remove the attraction completely off the website?1 point
-
That’s on the 3D map though and that hasn’t been updated in a couple years. If you view the downloadable map, it’s gone.1 point

The majority of VRTP staff who are on the jobkeeper payments will resume work this week. Most will be on a minimum of 4 shifts per week, with management ensuring they use every dollar of the payment. Last week Raging Waters Sydney staff returned to work as well completing cleaning, painting and training duties.0 points
