  4. I just went on it and thought it was amazing. Better than the Australian one in my opinion. If you don’t think it’s good, you probably don’t care for fly over attractions.

  6. I thought I'd start a seperate forum for Leviathan specific construction updates, so that we can easily follow the coaster in one place. This was my first time seeing the vertical construction progress, so I took my big camera lens to the park to get some close up shot of the construction Overview: Close ups: Despite the coaster not yet reaching it max height, it can already be seen for a lot of different points across the park

  7. ah yes fresh air, at last, it was always stinkin hot in there in summer, it could be a lifeguard chair but I can't really point it out because of the upper part of the queue we may need another camera angle for that but it probably is

  8. So the ocean parade rides are now surrounded by water? You swim from one to the other? or did the river get infilled and they’ve chosen the same colouring for the concrete to what they previously use in ocean parade? as I can’t tell the difference between what is a body of water, and what is a walkway... It’s like Six Flags after Hurricane Katrina...

  9. Sort of like this https://www.parkz.com.au/photo/20465-Adventure_Pier/gallery/sort/newest/location/park-291/offset/43 But it needs more words stencilled on it, like "Live, Laugh, Love"

  12. Review: Dreamworld’s post-covid reopening falls flat There were massive lines for Dreamworld’s reopening after a six-month coronavirus shutdown. But many visitors were disappointed when they finally got inside. The usual raucous of thrill-ride squeals was reduced to just a buzz for Dreamworld’s long-awaited reopening with signature rides closed and the park littered with ‘attraction unavailable signs’. Kids were dancing with excitement on the front lawn and punters were lined up in the hundreds at 10am, but once through the gates some thrill seekers – myself included – were left scratching their heads. Scream-inducing rides The Giant Drop and Buzz Saw had closed for maintenance – set to reopen on September 23 – while the Sidewinder rollercoaster has closed until October 30 as part of a longer remodel of the park. Just The Claw remained open for serious thrillseekers. “There was also Mick Doohan‘s Motocoaster and Tail Spin but they aren’t fast enough,” a teenage boy leaving the park at lunchtime said. He said “it was a bit of a bummer” and I had to agree. It wasn’t the Dreamworld I remembered. The entire ‘Corroboree’ section of the park had also been closed as part of the park’s covid-safe plan, meaning no animal viewings or popular Australian Sheep Shearing Show for visitors. Also closed due to COVID-19 was the Dreamworld Express, Mad Jungle Jam playground, and ABC Kids World, and, adding insult to injury, it was announced The Big Red Car and FloRider have both been permanently retired. It was not all bad news: There were hardly any queues for the rides that were open, even with time allowed for staff to sanitise between each ride. Families with young children looked to be having a fantastic time and one little girl was celebrating her birthday with her first visit to Dreamworld. The Tiger Island presentations at midday were a huge crowd-pleaser, as was the King Julian’s Theatre children’s show. And the Sky Voyager simulation across natural wonder of the United States was world-class entertainment. The quality of that ride gave me great hope for what Dreamworld will deliver in coming months and years, once the park’s top rides reopen. Across the road at WhiteWater World, all of the rides and pools were open and punters of all ages were having a brilliant time facing absolutely no lines. My memories of WhiteWater World involve a lot of time waiting in packed queues on metal staircases to get just one turn, so it came as quite a surprise to me that at 1pm on a sunny 24C day there were just a couple of dozen visitors at the water park. Those there were visibly enjoying the VIP-feel, with one mum shocked her two kids were the only ones on the popular Pipeline Plunge water-playground. https://www.couriermail.com.au/coronavirus/hibernation/review-dreamworlds-postcovid-reopening-falls-flat/news-story/7e398ea85944968f9cdb760efd8997f5 Funnily I didn’t see any opinion pieces criticising the VTP parks on their re-opening, especially MW which opened with more then half its slate out of action..

  21. TBH I think it'd be really cool if they did a 'mystery lodge' style attraction for Corroborree

  22. And I imagine it was the same reason why they had to remove Supermans too. Both were such simple effects, but really added to the experience. They also had the same for Surfrider and possibly Jet Rescue too. I think VRTP went through a mist stage

  23. I finally took my big camera lens to the park today so I could go some close ups of Vortex now that it is complete and there are a few details we haven't yet noticed There is a sign on the right side of this wall (the one with the ride logo), most likely the rides name There are some thematic elements carved into the walls There are a couple fish and squid in the bottom left corner. And a bit of a closer look at the restraints I hope these Tvs play something in relation to the ride, rather than generic VRTP ads. But I think a mural or more thematic elements would have been much nicer for this large surface area. Technical stuff Hmmmmm I do really love these. I really hope they are covered up in some way once the whole area is complete The ride does seem to have some good bones and 'nice' thematic touches. But I really wish it had turned out how the original concept artwork showed. Less blue and more rock/stone work. That could have really made the queue area immersive.

  25. DW [and most every other tourism driven biz] is a total wipe-out for 2020, 2021 and much of 2022. It will take a good two years for things to head back toward normal, assuming Covid vaccines/treatments get to market over the next say 3-6 months. Looking mid to long term at DW, it needs to get back a Longhurst type vision of quality themed attractions, quality over carnival type quantity. It's a decade long journey and it will be tough. Start with a serious rebuild of Rocky Hollow with new Log Ride, something for a wide age bracket. Go for 2 coasters and a 3rd dark ride, but again quality is key. Post 2025 look to building a hotel on the property - I think a couple of developers sniff-around with that idea from time-to-time, so finding an experienced developer partner and hotel/resort operator would be doable - DW may wish to do it on their own and develop the skill-set in-house. The hotel would bring an entire new dynamic to both DW and the Coomera area. GC Council/State Govt [with a Fed contribution] could look at extending the "G" light-rail up to Coomera in the second half of this decade. Tourism movement potential and help serving the booming area behind the GC. Food for thought, just ideas, some may come to fruition and some not. But let's all be honest, DW is as boring as a house brick these days.

  26. I think once upon a time that all of our parks were filled with real, genuine Australian can-do spirit and put passion and pride into doing big ideas on shoe-string budgets (and showing up the big players in the process.) There's that story of Lassiter's Mine costing 3 million and Disney Imagineering folks saying it would've costed 20 million. There's another similar story about Gum Tree Gully at Dreamworld. And then I think about rides like Bermuda Triangle and how cool the Pepper's Ghost effect was even as an adult and how so much of that ride would still hold up today. Same goes for Police Academy. Genuinely funny, really good stunts, brass-ring winning show. Same goes for Steam Trains. Super unique and a part of Australian history. Same goes for the Batman Ride - beautiful themed set pieces, awesome embark/disembark procedure into the simulator pods, totally mind-blowing stuff for kids. Really unique ideas executed well that are over-achievers in their own right. What happened? I think OH&S plays a part in some ways for sure, but as @joz eloquently painted the picture above, somehow all of our parks got into this epic death of creativity through a thousand cuts and two decades on it shows. Every park has big, obvious SBNO crap somewhere. Facades that have no place in the "themed land" they exist in. Unkempt gardens. Lacklustre theming. Just yikes all round. Take me back to an era where creatives created, not execs.

  27. I took this about a month ago while picking up one of the brother's from work, they've been stripping the old baldwin apart, fingers crossed these are the first signs of seeing it back on the tracks on day. 👍🏼

  29. @Brad2912 I think he’s referring to the second train rebuild for SE (hence why they only have one train running). That train is used by Intamin in their latest coasters

  32. It’s great to see they’ve finally invested into an app that has everything you need. There have been two attempts in the past at an app for the parks and they were pretty useless. I’ve been playing around with the app this morning and it works really well and has an easy UI. My question is, with the virtual queuing, I assume you then join the Fast Track line when it’s your time, but if a heap of people start using this system, won’t that make the Fast Track queue quite long? Or does it have a similar system as the Disney Fast Pass system and you select an available time slot to ride and once you’ve used that Fast Pass you can then create another?

  36. I think considering everything now shown I think the new coaster will be a surfing theme with the blue track (signifying water) and the new beach hut theme to the pit stop restaurant I think this coaster is more then likely themed to surfing
