  1. Hey everyone, (very) long time lurker, first time poster! Just on the train (Cleveland line) on the way to Uni. Just saw multiple trucks with the tarp-top containers on the Port of Brisbane Motorway merging onto the Gateway heading south... We should be seeing more track arriving soon!

  2. @Brad2912 & @MaxxTheMonster, I have a feeling that you are both onto something big here! A huge steel rollercoaster themed around lex luthor - a super intelligent, scientist/mastermind inventor - seems about right to me. Magenta and shades of purples have been used to depict Lex in all different comics. Especially when he is in his War Suit. E.g. https://goo.gl/JplcV6 Perhaps we could be seeing green supports: Lex is Superman's archenemy; his true rival. It could be said that this new rollercoaster will be the only coaster in Australia to rival Superman Escape? Thoughts?

  3. So are we thinking that all the containers will be the same colour? A lot of container trucks on the road this morning yet sadly none with the tarp on the top And do we know if they came in on one truck (B double) or as 2 separate? And yet...

  4. Inb4 someone starts complaining that dreamworld named a roller coaster after a deadly weather event: Cyclone

  5. On what grounds? Because kids in daycare like looking at rabbits sometimes? Anyone who stands in the way of a free car park deserves a solid kick to the nuts.

  6. Personally I feel the connotations of the word "suicide" don't sit well with something made for amusement. Working in retail when the DVD for Suicide Squad was released it was surprising the number of complaints we had for having in store signage/posters with the word Suicide on it. Call it "political correctness" but I don't think the ride will be themed to the suicide squad.

  7. @Theme Park Girl @themagician Who's ready to get back to the park when these arrive ? But now - @CJF, the important question- UQ or QUT?

  8. Ha that's a laugh. My here is also no other example in the city of a landowner operating 3 major theme parks and being the city's second largest employer. The fact that is a 'residential' zone is a joke in the first place given the theme park owns the land as was here before the residential area. So if anything the residents should be in a 'theme park' zone. We are of course talking about the same community (Gold Coast) that wants to be a world class tourist destination but votes down any sort of progress or development of such.

  9. Uhhhhhh... Doesn't even look good this time

  10. I find it strange they use comic book versions at all. Warner Bros comic book world is not the "theme" park

  11. SS wasn't THAT bad, it just suffered from a poor main protagonist (Enchantress) instead of the obvious choice in the Joker.

  12. @MaxxTheMonster True but as I am not a superhero nut at least I knew what the GL was. I never heard of Suicide Squad before the movie came out. I know it’s not happening but Mad Max would have been great. A bit of home grown Aussie pride into a ride you can never go wrong.

  13. @YLFATEEKS Probably because Mako is also a hypercoaster (at 61m tall), and has purple track. 7 News tried to find footage of a coaster similar to what movieworld is getting?

  14. @pushbutton I would have to agree with you on that one. With VR, the ride's theme is fantastic, and the overall experience flows quite well. Sans the VR....not so great.

  15. Ok this is the problem. Before the track started to turn up we all said "can't wait until the track turns up because the colour will tell us the theme" Problem: We can't even agree on what colour it is.

  17. Out of all the Supervillains they could pick, Luthor is easily one of the smartest choices, if not the smartest choice. Apart from the Joker, who sortof already has his own ride anyway, Luthor is arguably the most well-known and biggest villain in DC comics.

  18. It is déjà vu but I think this is beyond stupid. When DW and MW were built, it was in the middle of nowhere. You would go up the lift hill on the thunderbolt and see nothing for miles. They have allowed people to build closer and closer to the theme parks. Most of the economy on the Gold Coast is tourism. Without tourist, the Gold Coast will die very quickly. The government have forgotten this. The consequences if Luna Park closed is nothing compared what would happen to the Gold Coast if DW & MW closed.

  20. @joz Apparently, a car park of that size has never been built in a residential zone on the Gold Coast before and they don't want MW to be the first. This is what the local member said about it. “there were over 150 submissions. Traffic, zoning and amenity were the key planning issues at the start, and the key planning issues at the end. There is no other example in the City of a landowner in a residential zone that is operating a 3-hectare car parking station.”

  22. @Luke Lex Luther definitely seems like a possibility, and agree with the points you've made. But there really isn't a theme that truly stands out right now to me. There are definite no's, but quite a few possibilities

  23. This was the container that was on site at 5:30 last night. The containers in your photo's are 2 new containers. Who's wishing we have supports in this one? We will know for sure once we know the support colour hey @djrappa lol

  24. ^Nothing really, it's just about fighting the monster. But on a serious note, I think this one of Wiggles World is one of the better ones they've done

  25. Yep, no more track parts, except from the two extra yesterday, and there are the 2 shipping containers, but I think they are from yesterday too. And the structure for the second shelter is complete

  27. Ok I get it @Gazza I should have not used all the bad words to describe this post. I do standby that @pushbutton post is worst and should be given this award ( @djrappa "And I think we have a winner for one of the stupidest posts to date.) Did the trucks make a wrong turn? It's been 3 hours?

  29. I know we already have Arkham, but what about 'Harley's Love Coaster'. As much as I'd rather other DC characters to be represented by a massive coaster, if you put in Harley, you get all the young girls in the park (they're obsessed with her, and its gross to be completely honest. A child shouldnt idolise her) and you can add in Catwoman, Poison Ivy and all of her other flirty 'Sirens' sidekicks. [just imagine neon love hearts covering the coaster supports] Also, I still think Bizzaro is still plausible as it would contrast the Superman coaster, since yknow, Bizarro is the direct opposite of Supes. However, Bizzaro's coaster would need some heavy theming like GL to give everyone an idea as to what is going on, and who he is. Im still dreaming of it being Wonder Woman, though. And its still got the faintest of dream attached because WW is a Pink (love) Lantern. And that could tie in with Green Lantern next door.

  30. People do realise that not every container with tarps on them have coaster tracks in them. As a matter of fact, any container that needs to be loaded from the top will have no roof on it.

  31. The Suicide Squad was created in 87, and was primarily made to allow for less known DC characters to be used. Hence why the characters of the Suicide Squad are pretty much unknown characters, the exception is Harley Quinn and the Joker (although the joker is not a part of the squad. he is only connected by being the romantic love interest of Harley), she was much less known when she first started appearing in them. The comics have been becoming more and more popular in recent years as Harley Quinn has become more and more known. Also there is a second Suicide Squid movie in the works. As well as the Harley Quinn movie.

  32. An update to the car park which has a bearing on the hotel. In regards to the application for parking station City Officers did not bring a recommendation before the City Planning Committee, on the 15th March 2017 as we had originally expected they would. Officers had however advised the Applicant that the recommendation was to be a Refusal (on town planning grounds) and I had also met with the Applicant, and their consultants. We had a frank discussion regarding the key planning issues and concerns that had been raised by the Oxenford community during the public submission period. The Applicant subsequently elected to not extend the decision making period, and yesterday, they advised they have instead chosen to commence a court process regarding a ‘deemed refusal’ of the application. Whilst it remains early days in regards to the legal process, I fully expect that the City will maintain its position that the Application is inappropriate development for the lot and contrary to the planning scheme. In short G.C.C.C. has refused the application for a new car park and MW will be taking the council to court.

  33. ^This! If the coaster is indeed themed to a superhero/villain IP, it must be an iconic, classic, much loved, easily recognisable and marketable character. It would be a shame to stuff this one up.

  34. @themagician That's my problem with SS. It's not great. MW is about to unleash the greatest ever ride in Australia. Nothing I thought I would ever see built in my lifetime and people are ok to slap on a name referenced to a not great movie. Like me a lot of people don't know the original SS so all we have to go on is a not great movie. Question for people who know. Is the name Suicide Squad a tile for the movie or were they always know as SS?
    1 point
  35. 50/50 chance it'll be themed to popular villain character Two Face from totally still relevant film Batman Forever lol...

  36. The suicide squad movie wansnt bad, just wasn't great, especially after all the hype for it. It was better than batman v Superman though. Along with Batman & Robin, GL in my opinion is one of the worst superhero movies made. And the ride, except for its name, focuses more on the comics, like all their other rides and characters. Except for Christopher Nolans batman. We don't see the SS version of joker and Harley Quinn in the park, so if the movie was themed around SS i imagine it would be the comic book version

  37. To be honest Suicide Squad was a shit movie. If MW did change the theme it probably had nothing to do the incident at DW but MW not wanting to theme a ride around a flop.(If you want to see a good superhero movie go and watch Logan.) Just like when you ride Arkham Asylum you know you are riding a Joker coaster, MW could have based it on Suicide Squad without calling it Suicide Squad if the name is the problem. ^Why are they showing this coaster?

  38. It makes PERFECT sense now though with virtual reality. Probably the best themed ride in Australia now.

  39. I don't think you can discount the possibility of our hyper-coaster being Joker themed, purely based on the most recent Six Flags Joker coaster colour schemes. It just doesn't seem right that this new coaster would be Joker and/or Harlequin themed, given that Arkham Asylum is another headline attraction mainly based off these characters. On a side note, I've always thought the arkham asylum theme was very wishy-washy in it's execution.....and the name very uninspiring - Arkham Asylum coaster lol......its kinda like calling it 'Mental Hospital Coaster'. I don't understand how a hyper-coaster ride system suits a thematic story of a group of supervillains who are ordered to save the world from threats. Perhaps i just can't make the creative link between Suicide Squad and a rollercoaster.
