Artificial ski park planned for Gold Coast

Recommended Posts

Not entirely a theme park per say, but stumbled across it on FB just now, and thought that it was worth the mention in here since Topgolf has been of interest lately.

First golf. Now it looks like we have skiing on the way for the GC too ☺️?

"Plans are underway for Queensland’s first snow park. A series of artificial ski slopes made out of synthetic material with properties similar to snow may be built on the Gold Coast."

This is very strange.

You can crowd fund the snow park.

"Thank you for visiting Gold Coast Snow Park's crowd funding campaign. We are dedicated to building the world's first Outdoor Snow Themed Adventure and Training Park right here on Australia's Gold Coast. Our aim is to provide a park where anyone can turn up and have some fun without even putting on a set of skis or snowboard. Begginers can learn new skills and athletes can practice for and compete in competitions."

You can buy passes to visit a park that has no land.

How does a 2 year VIP pass only get you access to the park for one day?

The Gold Coast Snow Park has currently put on hold their Gavan/Mudgeeraba/???????? but have decided to proceed on a smaller version in Surfers Paradise.

The new location has a slab down but no council approval.

GCSP want to have it up and running by summer.

The site location is a couple of blocks from the Sling Shot & Vomatron.

Gold Coast Snow Park lodged a town planing application on the 22/08/2018

The applicant wishes to utilise approximately 3,000m2 of the subject site for the development of a mini snow park and arrow tag tourist attraction. The purpose of the mini snow park is to showcase a future Snow Park that is proposed to be located on a separate location on the Gold Coast.

The snow park component of the Tourist Attraction use is to include go - karts, tub by slide, tubby jump and free style test area. Although noted as a ‘snow park’, there is no snow to be used, but instead will use an artificial matting supplied by ‘Nevaplast’. The material used imitates the experience of skiing and snowboarding in the snow. The go-karts will be located on an area of 20m x 18.5m, which will sit on a concrete base to allow for the operation of the go-karts. The go - karts will be battery operated with the battery stored within the storage container that is located south from the attraction. The go-karts will operate on the ‘Nevaplast’ material. It should be noted that as these are battery operated, they are extremely quiet. Immediately to the east of the go-kart area is the tubby jump, tubby slide and free style test area. The free style test area and the tummy jump will lead onto the airbag that is located at the end of the attraction. These attractions will be constructed from a lightweight material elevated on scaffolding to achieve the height.

The tubby slide and free style test area will have a height of 6m and the tubby jump will be 12m in height. In order to improve aesthetics, the applicant is to cover the scaffolding that fronts Ocean Avenue with mesh advertising devices. Lastly, 1m east of the tubby slide is the arrow tag attraction. The attraction is to cover an area of 20m x 30m, and will operate just on the ground within a confined area and will include inflatable obstacles that participants can ‘hide’ behind. The arrow tag is similar to ‘skirmish’ but operated with specialist bow and arrows. To protect the users of the mini snow park, the arrow tag is proposed to have a 6m high fence made of netting.  After the operational hours have ceased for the day, the airbags associated with the mini snow park and arrow tag will be deflated.

The food and drink outlet will be selling pre-packaged food for users of the tourist facility. The applicant is not proposing any food preparation on site.  The site will be accessed via Surfers Paradise Blvd, Ocean Avenue and Pandanus Avenue.

Latest update.

The mini-park is open now for Arrow Tag and coffee, but our main attractions will still need to be built. These feature an airbag ramp, mini ice kart track, and tube sliding. The estimated official opening for the entire Mini Snow Park will be towards the end of November. Our Neveplast equipment is currently somewhere on it's way to us from Italy, so we are hopeful the lovely people in Australian Customs will have it released to us in the coming days!

The Mini Snow Park has released pricing.

Thanks for everyone who's been following our progress and offering their support as we progress. Our plans to open next week were based on the materials arriving here from Italy this week as it only takes a few days to put everything together and test it all out. Unfortunately, we received news this week that the shipment has been delayed and will take longer than expected to arrive. This not only has pushed our opening back, but we don't have a specific date of arrival now. We are aiming for an opening in early December and will keep everyone posted when we have something certain locked in.
Again, sorry if this has caused any problems and thank you for everyone's support so far, we can't wait to see you all on opening weekend. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
