  1. Sea World / Movie World. Do I really have to buy a locker to ride a rollercoaster? Have you heard of loose item boxes? ALL PARKS - Does water need to cost the same as a soft drink?

  2. Hahah thread about "little things that annoy you" then a member gets shot down for posting something little that annoys them! FWIW those lights normally are not left up all year round.

  3. Noticed that WWW has had sprinklers and soaker hoses along the paths over summer to help this All parks: Make the queue jump system line also a single rider or add a single rider. Would save the time and effort required calling for a single then waiting on them to make their way through the queue.

  4. On a similar note, Wet and Wild and Whitewater world are literally painful to walk around when the weather is hot! Better shading and/or covering the pathways with something that stays cooler would help a great deal!

  5. Whilst I always enjoy my visits to any theme park, I usually notice little things which are annoying. So I think it would be a good idea to start this thread about those things which would cost relatively little for the parks to fix and doing so could make a significant difference to the guest experience. Here's a few to kick off: SEA WORLD: The main route through the park is obstructed by a low white gate. Just open it, or get rid of it! DREAMWORLD: Getting into the park usually takes much longer than it should because they only open one door! Open them all, or change the entrance so it's like the ones at the Village parks.

  7. C'mon Movie World, take down the rest of the Christmas lights. They look tacky I know they're sometimes used for events, but they really bug me.

  9. ^I agree, it's probably for footers and they'd have to go quite deep and get right in there.

  13. I thought you went on Grindr if you were In-ta-min (and a guy, not that there's anything wrong with that). Hopefully they get a couple of other carnie rides to complement the main carnie ride, make it a threesome.

  14. It would have to be a pretty big gaping wide hole if you're going to get a whole foot..er in there. Whatever erection they need to create for the ride will need to be something that be sustained for a very long period. When you think about all the forces of the ride, they'll have to penetrate the ground pretty deep so it can provide the required level of enjoyment to visitors. No one wants a flaccid hammer after all.

  15. Let's start with HKDL first - Very picturesque little park, climate certainly helps with keeping everything green & lush. I can understand why the park would have been underwhelming when it first opened (especially to anyone who had visited the other Disney parks). The three most recent expansions have certainly helped it become a full day park, and I definitely needed the extra day due to the CNY crowds. The pending Iron Man attraction will help even more. Do wonder what impact Shanghai will have though. That aside, Adventureland is pretty barren with attractions, and Fantasyland is disappointingly short on dark rides. Mystic Manor is a wonderful attraction and proof Disney can still come up with entertaining original IPs. I also enjoyed Grizzly Gulch, I've seen a few unfavourable reviews which usually compare it to Big Thunder, can't say I totally agree with them. Front row is best row. Top marks to Mickey and the Wondrous Book, although the constant switching between English and Cantonese (with English captioning) made it a little confusing at times. Both parades were great, nice touch incorporating parts of the Electrical Parade soundtrack in Paint the Night. Was quite chilly on the second day, I'd love to know how many $20 blanket sales Disney sold. One thing I was surprised to find out was that they don't sell normal Mickey Mouse Ear Hats, mostly just hair band style ones. My ear hat collection therefore remains untouched... Some unprofessional photos -

  16. if your referring to superman the reason they do this is because you exit at a different station (well not exactly it's the same station just separated by a big door) to where you get on so your stuff wouldn't be there anymore. of course they could just have a storage thing on wheels they can push over to the next station...

  17. I didn't think the facade/window lights are used during Carnivale? I agree that they may be used for events, but it shouldn't take away from the park's main purpose: a themed environment for its day-time operations. You may think it's being overly critical, but I don't think it's fair to shoot down other people's opinions in a thread like this.

  18. You serious? There is over a million lights. It's months worth of work to get those in place and set up given work can only be done out of opening hours. They've been up for 4 years, they are not going to take them down.

  19. I remember we used to buy tap water at Dreamworld an had to pay 20 cents for the cardboard cup it came in. This was about 4 years ago. Anyone know if they still do this? My list: Movieworld: Reopen the Chinatown Alley to allow people to be able to get from one end of the park to the other when you have the top section closed off for the photo shoots, shows, parade. Also Movieworld: Now that you have put in the Dirty Harry Bar extension maybe put something out letting people know how they are supposed to queue for HWSD2 especially when vehicles are coming out for appearances and staff are trying to tell people to get on the sidewalk where there is a building in the way or change the times vehicle come out so that people are less likely to be queued there. Also Movieworld: Put a wheelchair/stroller ramp where the pathway to Superman meets the roundabout instead of further around where you need to walk on a thin strip of footpath annoying other park guests who are then standing in the way. Also Movieworld: More seating for family and adults in the Junior Driving School attraction. Speaking of which perhaps look at putting in more speakers lower to the ground and at a lower volume in same attraction as if myself and other adults cannot understand what your attendant is saying there is most likely no way any of the younger children do either. Not really small things but: Seaworld: Remove the remaining railway track and open up the area closed off for it for people to walk through. Movieworld: Put in another (maybe 2) parent/change room/s. If you are at WWF or JL there is a long walk to heat bottles (Before anyone says ask someone at a food outlet they wont for safety reasons. If they heat it too much and the child gets burned they can be held responsible. I know because I asked one day.) and put in permanent change benches as the fold out ones don't always support a child's weight and the child starts freaking out they are going to fall. (Again have seen this multiple times.) Yes but Jet Rescue is the same.

  27. You can't really put it anywhere else on that side of the park easily. As a temporary measure I have no issue with it being where it is. Sure that side of the park is getting crowded but given the distance from the existing Tiger Island and vet facilities putting something in somewhere like the old Blue Lagoon area would make it quite the trek to get the tigers on display there and it isn't exactly the easiest place to get to and from quickly should something happen.

  29. Only pic I could find of the 'cage full of cars'. It was implied to be a junkyard and it is where the dog barking sound effects emanated from. This view I believe is what you see from exiting the theatre pre-show. You walk around to the right and enter the ride queue through that opening on the middle-right of picture.

  31. Over the years there were many qualified steam drivers at Dreamworld, but now only one remains. He drives the diesel full-time, while other trained operators drive it on his days off and during his lunch breaks. Contrary to some opinion, the steam driver does not earn more than the other park operators - so he is not "expensive". It would be that the steam-qualified driver was driving the diesel the day it broke down so was available immediately to light the Baldwin at a moment's notice. His roster has him the driver 5 days a week. No need to worry about telephone calls. It would take two hours to prep the engine and raise steam, so there would be no great delay to the operating schedule. No big deal. At least it gives the driver something to do instead of sitting around doing nothing for the duration. How long will the steam operation last while the diesel is being repaired? Not known.

  34. I am new to this forum. I note the comments from many who have been here before, many of which are suppositions with no basis in fact, so I will try to assist with some facts. Firstly, the Dreamworld track is just 1.5 km long, NOT 3 km as claimed by Dreamworld. I know this as I was in a position to measure the length, which I did. If Dreamworl's archival records state that 3 km of RAILwas purchased, that may be where their claim originates. 3 km of rail produces only 1.5 km of track though. Check for yourself with a GPS unit. The Baldwin locomotive's origins lie in World War 1, when the British War Department contracted the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia USA to construct 495 locomotives of 2 feet gauge, to operate in the war zones transporting personnel, provisions, ammunition etc. Narrow gauge railways were used extensively by both sides in the conflict as an efficient method of transport. It has always been said that our Baldwin worked in France, but a reference in Wikipedia notes that it (Construction Number 45215) was in a batch of 60 sent to Egypt where it was involved on the Eastern Front, against the Turk offensive. After the war the little engine was purchased by the Racecourse Sugar Mill at Mackay and spent a lifetime until the 1960s hauling cane to the mill. After being laid aside, luckily it was not cut-up for scrap metal, the fate of most steam locomotives, and eventually was "done-up" and became the star on Dreamworld's railway. It was made to look like a "wild west" engine of the 1860s, and looks nothing like it did when new. It was initially a tank engine, and the cute tender it now has, sets it off nicely. It is a pity that Dreamworld never capitalized on the engine's claim to fame. More later...

  35. It could be related, that said yesterday the engine ran from 10-5 with an hour break at 1230. Back in the day where they were hell bent on getting rid of the steam (and when the writing was on the wall) they were only operating between 11-4 with a break in the middle to save operating costs, when the diesel took over the full operating schedule was resumed. Even if it was only a "trial", from all reports it was successful and sure got a lot of people talking about it. The comments from all walks of life were along the lines of "it's a real steam train", which is refreshing to hear. The day the park pulled the pin on steam was the day the park threw its history into the bin and said "we don't care". The park has changed a lot since then, and my wife can tell you how much I was buzzing after hearing the news about management giving the green light to run the Baldwin. There's been a few people in the background campaigning the return of the steam train, and it looks like it has paid off. To those who had been working in the background to make it happen, thank you. I really hope this is the start of more frequent and scheduled use of the steam engine.
