  1. This is right, Doomsday is an attraction that did nothing to improve attendance. It's arguably a similar thing to Driving School, nice enough, people enjoy it but it's still pretty meh. Thing is it utilized an area that was basically nothing, and 100% improved the aesthetic of that area (regardless of whether you agree with the theme or not)... But driving school took what was an extremely valuable asset (a massive dark ride show building) and completely wasted it. There is no benefit to it being in that location at all, and it means no major ride will ever go there. Taking an in park show building and turning half of it into storage and the other half into a modestly done kiddie only attraction is one of the most short sighted and bad decisions the previous management ever made. About as stupid as taking their next biggest show building and turning it into Storm.

  2. I think I can help you out here... It means that... Tail Spin will not open today... Buzzsaw will not open until next Monday... Escape from Madagascar will not open until the following Monday... So if you would like to experience any of these attractions it might be best to delay your attendance at the park until a time that the attractions you are wanting to experience are operating again...

  4. Looney Tunes was a dark ride suitable not just for kids, but for all guests. Shame they didn't replace it with something as good or better. Maybe one day.

  5. Vale DW Mine Ride. . At least now we can finally have closure on this whole saga - one that has plagued the Park long before the Horrors of late 2016.. Time to move forward. If DW believe they can survive beyond 2018, now is the time for them to reflect on the success of the Past, Respect the Reality of the Present and look forward to a Future that may possibly bring the very best of ideals that DW, Park and it's People have always stood for. After all, Dreams are free.. right?

  6. Why would people line up for a ride that's closed?

  7. How do you figure? Define "Australian Cuisine" for me? Our culture tends to draw from the diverse migrant backgrounds that emigrated here. You can't really exclude any of them unless you want to go back to witchetty grubs and kangaroo meat - so while many chinese dishes are stapled with rice or noodles, "Australian" dishes can be really anything. --------- While Doomsday didn't really do much to build attendance, what it does do is provide additional space to soak crowds, and keep them occupied. While most rides are 'heres the queue, there's your ride, exit this way' - the doomsday precinct keeps people around - looking at (and now playing with) all the interactive elements in the Villains Unleashed area, as well as the ride. The park has needed several flats to spread the crowds away from the big thrills, and doomsday was a step towards that, which was sorely needed when queues on the big ones regularly hit more than an hour in peak. Several other little flats would be a boon for the park to really balance things out.

  9. Not surprising-why the CEO last month sounded such an optimistic message on it I have no idea. Didn't look likely to happen then, would be better if they called it that way-if they want the public to have trust in them having safe rides. This is the same reason I don't get why they're trying so hard to make wipeout work again. It is an old ride, tell everyone that and take it away. Safety and an image of safety is way more important to the park than some nostalgia.

  10. I was there on Tuesday and both Buzzsaw and Tailspin were open. The notices out front said the Buzzsaw would be closed for the day but opened around 10:45. Witnessed quite a few breakdowns Tuesday. Giant drop got stuck half way up twice, both times for a few minutes and had to be lowered down slowly I got stuck on the shockwave for about 10 minutes as the attendant couldn't release the harnesses until maintenance arrived. Also got stuck on the tailspin as we waited for maintenance to do a reset Was a good day but holy shit, never going again the last week of school term. The amass of school groups going on end of years excursions goes hand in hand with the most vomit I have ever seen. Tower of terror was shut for 40 minutes due to clean up, 3 outside of buzzsaw and the girl next to me projectile vomited as we stopped on the shockwave.. All the vomit and breakdowns reminded me of my old rollercoaster tycoon days.

  12. Na, no excuses this time for those closures. F that. Out of curiosity, did BuzzSaw, Tailspin ever reopen or was this just a case of a badly updated website?

  14. Although I note your personal experience, as i've said previously, my wife works for the biggest residential builder in queensland. All their sites shut down from Xmas - New Years. Some trades may still choose to work during those times on various small jobs - they get paid by the job, not by the hour, so it's up to them how quickly they get things done. The office itself closes for a week beyond new years as well. Regardless of whether trade, construction, demolition or other industries do or do not work during xmas\new years period, this is usually the biggest tourist peak for the park - and indeed the entire coast. They may not wish to have that sort of work going on during that time, for guest experience reasons.

  16. Good decision by the park. Wasn’t worth trying to revamp and the land is much more suited to a new large scale attraction.

  19. OMG... Do people not read all the way through the whole article... "The remaining structure of Eureka Mountain Mine Ride is set to be completely removed before the end of the year." I mean sure they might not but it says it right in the article...

  20. A bit of a shame really, the Dracula’s haunted house is pretty awesome. Fingers crossed whatever replaces it is something unique and well done.

  22. See the stuff I posted above. Try to squeeze more disney time. I assume you'll hit DCA as well and one day at each park isn't enough. If you can squeeze a third day, where you can park hop between the two, it should give you most of both parks without missing much. Staying on Disney property is always special. Even if its only for a couple of days (plus the perks for hotel guests when visiting the park - like parcel drop off are a bonus), but it IS pricey no matter where you stay. I doubt you'd get much benefit out of it if it were only overnight. USH is very different to USS. USH is a working studio with backlot and a lot of other stuff going on, whereas USS was just and always only about the rides. It's a very different park in my opinion, However if you like USS you will like it, you will enjoy it. 1 day will be sufficient provided you're picky about busy periods, or willing to pay a little extra for the premium experiences like fastpass etc. SFMM is also jam packed with people most days. I've only ever done the park for a single day per visit, and never managed to get EVERYTHING done - even with a platinum flash pass (although it is doable depending on who is with you and what pace you keep up), but a single day is still an alright visit, even if you miss things (tip: prioritise your must do's, decide what you're ok with missing, and leave that until last - don't waste time criss crossing the park - take a logical path from one side to the other so you don't have to backtrack). Knott's is great, and a day should be sufficient. Vegas is worth the trip. Although it goes against the grain, don't book a hotel in advance. Walk-ups (in my experience) always seem to get a better price. the New York coaster isn't worth it unless you want the credit, but Circus Circus is worth a couple hours. You'll lose a lot of time driving to see the canyon - we found a tour that picked up at the hotel, took you to the airport, flew you to the western edge, and then choppered you down into the gorge before boarding a boat. Great value, lunch included, and just over half a day, while still having plenty of time to see, marvel, take photos etc.

  23. It's easier to see them if you're the first car into the lift (second to exit) - as you roll back to prepare for the backwards drop - look to the right (at about "2 o'clock"). Some ops have lights on, some don't, so you won't always see them, but they're there.

  25. You can definitely spot the ride op on WWF, but was not aware of there being any on SDSC! I’ll have to keep my eyes open next tine 😉

  26. In the case of WWF it was a safety recommendation by the ride Manufacturer. There are multiple sensors around both turn tables that would E-stop the ride if crossed during Operation. The main concern in that area being the backwards drop and subsequent risk if someone panicked and tried to get out. The Attendant must hold down a button each time a boat load of Guests enters the area, holding it until dispatched and safely cleared. A high pitch alarm would sound should the Attendant's hand slip or they not be paying attention. There was also a similar role in the Lift at the Tune River ride in it's day.

  30. Well I think the theory that Chinese people wouldn't eat Chinese food in Australia is pretty dumb tbh. I mean obviously they aren't going to travel here for it but while they're here absolutely they would. FWIW though I was thinking about Asian food for locals. Go to the average shopping center food court and tell me there isn't demand for Asian food.

  31. Given the number of Asian tourists who visit the parks, and the popularity of Asian food with aussies too, a good quality noodle bar is a guaranteed winner.
