Your 'bad decision' day does let you get on five rides, and this is achieveable as a solo adult, or a group who entirely follow the group plan unwaveringly. This is not the only demographic in the park. A family with smaller, and older kids, for example, is going to have different priorities. You didn't see any shows, or main street entertainment. You only grabbed a quick service bite to eat, rather than finding somewhere to sit and ordering food for everyone, and then having kids that take a while to eat their lunch (And certainly not wanting to waste it because it cost you the GDP of a small african nation). You didn't get photos with any of the kid's favourite characters, you didn't browse the giftshop so your kid could spend the $10 Grammy gave him on the small piece of plastic crap that is all he can afford... And TOILETS. You haven't allowed a single moment for the umpteenth trip to the toilet because Sally's bladder isn't bottomless and the bottomless sipper is. I can't really be bothered going through a hypothetical analysis on the queue wait times and what not, but if you throw in 'wanting to go to the toilet' and 'wanting a snack' and 'need another drink' and 'can we get a photo', as well as trying to herd the 16 cats that make up your family, I can assure you, 3 rides in a day with a family of mixed age kids isn't outside the realm of possibility. Especially if the kids age groups mean that a trip to WB Kids is necessary so the little guy can ride something too (sure families can split up to do things like that simultaneous but not all families want to do that). Can others do more? Yes. Does that mean the 3-rides in a day reviews are bullshit? No. We've long talked about guests in general leaving their brains at the door. they're on holidays. they don't walk into the park with a game plan... and they shouldn't have to. I think I covered this, but just to be clear, you seem to be discussing a single person's experience in the park (And I agree, probably only one person who wants to do both) but in the scheme, Dad, maybe Mum, definitely Teen are heading for Rivals, but early primary schooler wants to do JDS, so as a unit, that family wants to do both, and therefore has to line up for both. Yeah, the teen is probably going to go off on their own (these days they've got phones) but Dad and maybe Mum probably want to ride Rivals too - and someone has to look after Jimmy who isn't tall enough to ride yet.3 points

Yeah I definitely get the point your trying to make but it's still not a great outcome. In your worst case scenario you've ridden 5 rides. How much more could this realistically be improved? Then factor in ride outages with queue dumps, toilet breaks, if you've got kids, the fact that you're missing out on every bit of entertainment and all experiences like the batman exhibit and it's hardly a dream day. My point is that even in the realistic best case scenario being the absolute first person in the park to the time they kick you out, on a day like Monday it's just a bad time for everybody, though I'd be happy to know your thoughts on why you believe Movie World doesn't have a capacity problem. Simply, no. This is just perpetuating unfair stereotypes based on opinion. There is no evidence to back up what you're saying beyond the fact that many young employees are unwilling to put up with poor working conditions. There is plenty of evidence which shows that many young employees are overworked and underpaid with little benefits with room for career escalation despite being just as committed to their workplace as older workers. https://www.pwc.com.au/digitalpulse/impact-millennials-workplace.html https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-22/why-millennials-are-getting-stuck-in-low-paid-jobs-for-longer/91030063 points

Apropos of nothing, and perhaps to lighten the mood, I’m reminded of a scene I witnessed at ah airport a few years ago. Passenger barked “do you know who I am” at a gate agent, who promptly got on the PA with an announcement “Ladies and gentlemen, we have a passenger at the gate who doesn’t know who he is. If you can help him, please approach the counter.”3 points

Anecdotally I've noticed that the entire New Atlantis precinct seems to be having some teething issues but I wanted to see whether there was any evidence behind that. I wont go into the software, but for research purposes I created a little system that pings the rides every 15 minutes and returns the ride state between 10 AM and 6 PM. This data is only from the 18th - 24th of Jan so there are a lot of factors that could influence why the rides are down. I did a huge europe trip last year - at every park I managed to get every single roller coaster that was open on the one day (with the exception of Thorpe Park and Alton Towers.. Merlin sucks. Wicker Man was the only coaster not open for my visit) No prior planning was required. I had enough time to do shows, eat food and ride flat and dark rides. For the size of our parks this is a reasonable expectation. For context I visited April/May - although it wasn't peak, most of the parks were full of school kids (especially the merlin ones). You've gotta understand that if you take your family (2 adults, 2 children) to the parks .. for over $440... $~50 per hour for your day, it is a reasonable expectation that you will do all the attractions that you wish to do. With the limited opening hours (which surprises all the thoosies coming through now) and the rubbish operations - it simply is not possible, and it should be. With the express pass you're looking at over $1,000.. for one day.2 points

Was at Funfields yesterday day they had a drop n twist there as well. I rode it as when I was standing outside the ride they asked for a single rider so I hopped on straight and it was pretty fun! It was quite small tho I’m guessing the one at MW will be bigger?2 points

The white knights are out in force today.... I struggle to comprehend how you expect discussions to take place, when the second you opinion isn't reciprocated by another party, you turn to attacks and belittlement. The same could be said by those who continue to work within the industry...2 points

What a stupid thing to say. It's evident that SOME of the leaders aren't driven by anything besides notoriety. You and I both know the culture within the company is shocking in majority of the business areas. Shit morale leads to poor performance, it's as simple as that. There is not an inch of tall poppy syndrome within my reply or original opinions. If the heads of the business, and the managers on the ground aren't prepared to get their boots dirty, make a change and display expectations, why then should the "lazy and unmotivated" ops care? As recent as last month I witnessed a leader ripping into his staff, in front of a large group of GP, criticising their work, and reprimanding them, because they were struggling to wrap their head around an outlets new POS system, a system that they had no prior training in. Do you understand what I am saying here? That's not the point of discussion though. The fact of the matter is, these attractions are putting through a Movie Worlds pax capacity hasn't increased, yet their attractions line up has. We weren't seeing this type of attraction wait times pre covid, yet they were still doing record crowds. This comes down to poor operations, running attractions at a 3rd of their possible throughput. I will say it again, clear and concise expectations need to be set, otherwise it will be the same shit. A theme park being full to the point that you're getting on 2 attractions in a day, is the result of poor planing, design and operations. It's as simple as that. You do understand people can have a terrible day, deciding to never visit again, without going and leaving a review online. People vote with their wallets, not their Google reviews....2 points

I’m just here to say this, and it’s absolutely true so to hell with anyone that wants to criticize my comment. But sadly, by and large, Australian workers at the age and level of your average ride attendant are lazy and unmotivated. Does that mean the parks get a free pass? Of course not, but as pointed out, when it’s home time they will work harder to get out of there. As long as that is the pool for staffing them our parks will suck at operations compared to overseas. You can see this easily in hospitality, as it’s genuinely the same pool. With the absence of European and north American working holiday tourists over Covid staff in hospitality here sucked!! It’s slowly getting better. But theme parks don’t employ working tourists, so you will always have these feet dragging staff. That really is a big part of the problem, it’s largely generational and somewhat uniquely australian in nature.2 points

If your options are get there early and put your body and mind through a marathon of waiting, or get there late and experience very little, than you've got a capacity problem.2 points

All Dreamworks references within the Kung Fu Panda area have now been removed. Pandamonium is set to close on Monday 30th and will reopen late March. I’m speculating that maybe most of this area will be closed off soon so the Ocean Parade transformation can begin. There are heaps of coloured dots on the ground throughout the area too1 point

The parks don't seem to be bothered by the slow throughput. Less wear and tear on their machinery, less power consumed. And the punters still cough up their money. I doubt anything will change.1 point

Wow this has blown up while I’ve enjoyed my day at the beach. Getting evac’d out of the water due to a shark wasn’t in the plans, totally a 1 star review coming up for Burleigh Beach… End of the day, if you want to go on more than 3 rides, even on the busiest day, you will. Parks have family swap to assist with getting on some rides, if you have little kids you can comfortably get them on all of WB kids offerings in well under 2 hours (probably closer to 1) giving you, an adult, plenty of time to go on the big stuff. If you want to fart around to watch shows and take photos then that’s fine, and it’s what I personally would want from my day at a park, but it’s my choice to do that so I’m not going to whinge and moan that my choices cut down my ride opportunities.1 point

Cool story bro. I went to Alton Towers and rode everything without planning. I love it when we share meaningless stories!1 point

To be clear, I on occasion go with family, and probably do 1-3 rides. We also see whatever is in the roxy, watch whatever incarnation of a stunt show is playing, watch the parade, have lunch. It's a full day out and at no point has it occurred to me to get mad at the fact we're getting 3 rides in. If you're the sort of person to whom rides are the priority, but you can't prioritise them, I'm sorry but I don't know what you want the park to do about that. 'Are you saying there are no issues and everything is totally fine?' No, that's not what I'm saying and you know full well it's not. Is it possible to go to MW and do 3 rides? Yeah sure. Is it the parks fault if that happens? No, if you want to do rides, you've got to be a little more involved in making sure you actually go on them.1 point

Jungle Rash? I don't hate the name. I liked it more when I thought it was a low effort retheme of Madagascar instead of a ride through bushland. Also to be clear, I'm not going to judge the quality of the ride based on the types of trees around it, but I will 100% be judging the name based on how committed they are to planting a jungle.1 point

If this thread got any more dense it'd form a black hole. Nobody visiting these forums hates theme parks. Enthusiasts are known for being vocal and critical, but that is because they're deeply passionate about these places. Going back to reviews, many are overinflated and opinion based, but they still matter. Study's have been done on them. The above study concluded that user reviews generally reflect the overall experience within a tourist attraction. But does that matter? Well there are study's on that as well. That refers to another study on the matter. So from those three published research papers we can comfortably conclude that reviews reflect the general guest experience and are an important factor in determining future visitation from other guests.1 point

Obviously you agree with everything else I've written here, so that's great. In which, they visited over the school holidays, realised the place was packed and staff couldn't keep up. Decide to skip that property in the future.1 point

@jozWhat? I'm not trying to have a go at you mate, I'm genuinely curious on your thoughts. I showed the wait times because I thought people would be interested, not to make you look bad, and show that perhaps there is some truth behind somebody only being able to get three things done in a day. This is one day of data where I purposefully chose the worst case. Other days have been a lot quieter and would be a lot easier to get more things done. The reason I asked about capacity is because you engaged with my comment about capacity, so I assumed thats what you wanted to discuss. Again, not trying to have a go at you. If you're ever confused about my tone you're more than welcome to ask me what I'm trying to express.1 point

Popped in today to give it a last ride before the closure. The lack of cars was noticeable for sure with an advertised 90 min wait in the afternoon. Didn't help that some cars were being sent around the circuit empty. They weren't wrapped up in tape as the borked cars usually are, so it seemed like a recent issue. One of the staff members got a solo ride on one car for some reason. Was quite surprising, especially after seeing two cars get sent empty just before hand! Most of the effects were down as usual, with the first screen being completely turned off. No Tv's on the lift, which I hear has been the case for awhile now. Ride is definitely rougher now, but I still enjoyed it. Here's a few pics:1 point

When I went in late December, it appeared to be something to be a harness sensor tripping, but this is purely speculation based on what stage they were working on during the test cycles. The team just said 'sensor issue' to me and they announced the issue after 3 test cycles, reset the seats and then said it will be closed until further notice.1 point

Alright well let's play a game shall we. Say those times are accurate, not exaggerated which they often are. Let's also say I got to the park at opening, but I also at every point in the day I made terrible decisions and always went on the ride with the longest queue that I hadn't been on. What does the day look like? I'd be starting the day at 9:45 on Rivals. Cool good to get a big ride done. Then the longest queue when I get off is Scooby. It's a 100min wait, and let's allow 15mins to walk over there. So I join the queue at 11, and done about 12:40. Grab a quick bite from a mobile cart, and at 1, I go to the ride with the next biggest queue, Wild West, 150mins. 2 and a half hours is decidedly unpleasant! But whatever, those are the rules. 3:30 I'm done with that. I check the app and go for the next longest line, Green Lantern with an hour. Let's say that takes till 4:45. Hope on Superman which is right next door with a half hour queue, and then onto Justice Leauge to finish off the day. Does that sound like a nice day? Fuck no! Every decision I made was 100% wrong, and I made it that I queued as long as I possibly could. But making every wrong decision and having the worst day, I still rode everything except Batwing and Doomsday. So take your 'only got on 3 rides' reviews and fuck off. Quick edit to say I'm on mobile switching windows. I expect there will be mistakes I've made. I don't care, it doesn't materially change my point.1 point

This is certainly a well overdue upgrade. Next Generation was a poorer experience to the original ride, not fixing anything related to the coaster experience and instead a lacklustre effort at meeting fire safety requirements. Getting some of the theming fixed would be nice, especially at places like at the mirror scene or on the elevator. Retracking will make the ride more comfortable considering it runs in the dark and has so many pot holes.1 point

I'm just honestly impressed with ALL the parks lately spending so much money not just on new attractions but fixing up the place in general. Dreamworld has been making leaps and bounds over the last few years in this regard. Village has also been slowly going through all of their stuff and fixing it up (Road Runner, West, Justice League and now this). I really hope that after WOO is done that they shut down the kids area and do a full overhaul. I feel they could justify this as there will be more family attractions with Oz open. It's really good to see though1 point

It's really exciting to see Scooby get some proper love outside of thematic enhancements which easily keep it going for another decade or two. I'll be interested to see how much of the existing 'Next Generation' technology gets replaced because Village have definitely proven that they can pull off properly world class AV integrations with the Leviathan load. Operations wise I feel the park is really going to feel Scooby's absence next school holidays. Movie World has lost a lot of capacity over the last few years and losing another major attraction for a year will hurt.1 point

The loss of LTRR for Jnr Driving School is the biggest stain on our parks imo. Yes I know it would have been costly to refresh and update the animatronics, but it was quintessential MW and that ride truly would have had its place FOREVER if they kept it well maintained.1 point

It's all subjective because it's all nostalgia berries. I've often thought that if Lasseter's was at Wonderland people would be singing it's praises as the best themed ride Australia ever had. Seeing it was at SW, and only for a fairly short time, I think it gets forgotten about far more than it deserves. I mean don't get me wrong, Bermuda was much better and definitely an upgrade, but Lasseter's really was a great ride. My memory of it is very hazy though, so if there was one ride I could go on again, that would be my pick, just so I can join the dots on it. Bermuda was better, but I well and truly got my fill there. Also vrry honourable mention to Lil Puff at DW. Fucking loved that shit as a kid, would be nice to be able to remember it properly. I think for me the stuff I miss is the stuff I have the best memories on, not what was the best. I think DW should have replaced Wipeout with something equivalent, and it was the most beautifully executed flat ride in the country by a fair margin, but I don't miss it as such. What I miss about it was my first ride on it when I was 9. I miss the playground. I miss that feeling of going on an epic adventure on pretty much all of DW's old rides (Log ride, rapids, Captain Sturt, Eureka, The Train and even the vintage cars to an extent back in the day. It's not that they were great rides, but in all cases you didn't know what you were going to see when you went on them. It was like you were going on a journey. I know that's weird to explain to kids today; these days if you started getting excited about not knowing where the ride went, you'd pull out your phone and get a satellite image of the layout. Back then you could have been going anywhere. Also objectively the best ride to have closed at MW is Gremlins. Maybe its because Scooby is amazing but I feel pretty much nothing about its demise. The park would be better if they had it AS WELL, but one or the other it's Scooby all the way.1 point

Bermuda Triangle kicked ass - it’s kind of crazy we were able to pull something like that off (and in-house!) that had that many animatronics and special effects (the pepper’s ghost UFO was stunning as a nine year old). Storm’s good, but it’s not better. Naturally Tower of Terror is an obvious nod - it’s the thing that put Dreamworld on the thrillseeker’s map globally, particularly at a time where we were all jumping online for the first time. It was the thing we were all proud of and it had some crazy cool technology to boot. Also the skull and the original pod design was badass. F*cking t-bar restraints 100m+ in the air? Yes please. I was lucky to do a few cycles where I was the only one in the pod and getting just that little bit closer to the top of the tower made it feel unsettlingly bonkers. Shoutout to Wipeout which is still one of the best themed flat rides ever. Never should’ve been replaced with nothing. I can appreciate a Dreamworld without Tower of Terror because it regularly ruined the ambience of the park and aged poorly, but Wipeout? It’s still not Dreamworld without Wipeout. It’s the ride that literally saved the park. It's iconic. When they said it was going to close and the Ardent price dipped lower to a market cap that was far lower than the cost of a replacement thrill ride, they should've course corrected instead of doubling down on shaded seating. Special mention to the IMAX theatre and the steam trains. The majesty of the IMAX theatre was how unassuming and how well integrated it was into the Central Plaza. It also was a stunning experience that folks couldn’t get anywhere else. It was so good it was the lynch pin in having the park achieve 10,000 pax days in its first years. Imagine that, a Dreamworld with less rides but with the same pax as Movie World on a busy day? Mental. Sky Voyager is good, and has the potential to be great, but that facade is tragic and did incredible damage to the success of the ride and the immersion of the greater area, as will the Zierer Swinger when they knock out the fountain. Real shame that. As for steam trains, the topic’s been done to death. They’re iconic, and leaving one out the front is a bit average, imo. EDIT: new adds Batman: The ride - like Tower of Terror, aged horribly. But again, as a nine-year-old, it was spectacular. As a young kid, I had just come back from Disneyland and it genuinely felt more iconic than Star Tours. From the massive cavernous library into the tiny little caves back open into Batman's lair and the animatronic that you could never quite tell was real or not. Suffice to say, whilst I am nostalgic for it, I do think Justice League just eeks out as being slightly better. Also, Police Academy. Everything from the gags (including pre-show) to the stunts was as captivating for kids as they were for adults. There's a special magic to getting something like that so spot on - I think it's why Bluey and Pixar films have had so much success. Funnily enough, I still haven't ever seen a single Police Academy movie and I dare say I never will. And that's the beauty of that show, you really didn't need to. I'll be bold and say that Movie World's single biggest mistake in its history was axing that show. EDIT: Interesting to see that I've already posted in this thread, and even after two years the under-currents of Police Academy, Bermuda Triangle and Wipeout still ring true.1 point

Hey Whombex! Thanks for the questions 1. Pretty good - lots of guests again congratulating us on first visit/honeymoon. And the interaction of a guest giving me a purse was beautiful. I did find the amount of guest on ECV's (the electric scooter vehicles) really surprised me - they were just everywhere. That and the amount of prams/strollers I found detracted a little from the magic - moreso at Disney than Universal. But, it's a part of life and so I just learned to look past it. Seeing people dressing up in robes at Universal for HP world was beautiful though, that really added to the atmosphere! 2. We did! We enjoyed breakfast of chocolate croissants (and average coffee) at Jolly Holiday for two mornings - lovely service and hardly any wait. We also ate at Flo's Diner in DVC which is quick service. We did mobile order with Flo's which was quick but no cast member interaction. I definitely preferred table service - much more attentive, chatted with us - just a nicer experience all round. 3. We did! My husband's screen name for lots of things is GeneralHSolo and so Han Solo is his favourite character - so to see a full size millenium falcon sitting there, and then being able to go in was just unbelievable! We only had the chance to ride it once - we both got engineers. We just ran out of time to do it again and try and be pilots, but maybe on our next trip! 4. YES! Always Bright Suns which was lovely, and when I asked how much extra kyber crystals were (as my husband did Savi's workshop and made his own lightsaber) I was told "18 credits" which I loved! It was just that attention to detail that made galaxy's edge that little bit more special 5. No we didn't - we have just finished watching Andor and we hadn't seen it then (we are very behind :D) - we will have to try that next time! 6. I think the homelessness problem really took me by surprise - once you leave the Disney bubble, the real world hits you and it was sad to experience the way many people live. While homelessness is a problem even in Australia - I think that because making tents/camps on the footpaths is legal in LA, the problem really kind of smacked you in the face and was more noticeable. But, I also enjoyed how friendly people in LA were - the first place we ate was In and Out Burger, and the staff there were so friendly, and upbeat and excited, it was a great experience! Even when I went to a CVS, the staff were very helpful. CVS was an experience - very different to an Aussie chemist!1 point
