  1. TOT Needed a new control system almost 10 years ago, they opted not to then. It would cost a lot more to do it now given the current state of the ride. They what? You realise it would be cheaper to buy and install a new off the shelf coaster? The cost of removing the old track, getting new track manufactured and then installed would be ridiculous. If they are going to the effort of re-tracking the ride, they may as well also rebuild the supports... and the station... and replace it with a new ride.

  2. AA has a systematic approach to maintenance, with the spare bogies being rebuilt throughout the time the ride is running. But, let's not forget Green Lantern was out for extended down time (and was inches away from killing people, we have seemed to have forgotten that fact). I think Doomsday Destroyer also had some unscheduled down time recently. Scooby has looked like crap for a long time, and we where constantly harping on about how the effects didn't work in that prior to the stripping of the themeing too. Movie World isn't perfect, it's just the boot is into Dreamworld at the moment on this forum at the moment (like it was into Movie World a few months back).

  3. HWSW is an Arrow Dynamics design. You know - the company that designed the world's first tubular steel track on Matterhorn? (still operating) Or the first Hypercoaster - Magnum XL-200? (still operating) Or the first 4th dimension coaster, X2? (still operating). How does your 'old and aged' theory apply? ToT is one of only two reverse freefall coasters listed on RCDB, but the other - Superman, Escape from Krypton continues to operate, and I think as @Slick has pointed out recently, the fact that SFMM took the opportunity to upgrade the control system when they refurbished the ride in 2010 is probably what keeps it running so well. Neither of these attractions at Dreamworld, based on their cousins from the same manufacturer, should require this much maintenance. The maintenance issues therefore should not be attributed to age, but rather, poor standards maintained by the park and their unwillingness to upgrade older attractions when the opportunity presents itself, instead preferring to let them run into the ground, whilst building the next spin-and-spew.

  4. Arrow loopers are like the coaster equivalent of an 80's corolla; they are known to be extremely reliable and run forever unless a park doesn't maintain it properly which Dreamworld has apparently done. A ride like Hot Wheels could easily run for 15 more years, but Dreamworld ends up shortening that by not maintaining it properly and letting the ride look like this: When they struggle to keep their rides looking anything other than appalling then we have problems here. This ride hasn't been repainted in 17 years. No other park I can think of has gone this long without repainting a ride. And if they struggle to maintain a type of coaster that every other park on the planet can do, then we're having problems here. Rides like 50 year old Arrow mine trains are being maintained by companies like Six Flags with barely any problems yet here we are with the second youngest Arrow looper being closed for over two months. Or, heaven forbid - keep a seven year old Maurer Skyloop closed down for nearly 6 months because of maintenance. And this crap doesn't happen just to Dreamworld. It also happened when they owned AMF Bowling back in the day, I work at an AMF centre as a technician, and I can tell you that Ardent cheaped out on maintenance there. When Timezone bought AMF earlier this year the safety standards hugely improved and checks became much more frequent. This company needs to be shut down or end up going the way of Dick Smith. What has come out of the inquest is telling of how appalling the safety standards of Ardent actually are, had TRRR's accident not woke them up the situation would probably be even more worse. And I still don't think they are getting it. I've said it a few times already, so apologies if I've repeated myself here, but I can't stand having this company run a Gold Coast icon like this into the ground like what Sunway did to Wonderland.

  5. Does this answer your question? Review of Fright Night 2018 (and Terror Tour Platinum) here. I have to agree that the "vip tour/scare experience" was the worst yet, I did it in a group of three. Would be interested in hearing other peoples opinion that have done it previous years.

  6. The difference I guess is that what happened with Green Lantern wasn't due to poor staff training, poor engineering standards, poor maintenance practices and poor health and safety culture. If heaven forbid the Green Lantern incident resulted in an inquest, S&S would've been found almost entirely at fault. The public backlash would still have been there but defenders would have more voice saying it's not their fault. MW have also had rides down without a reopening date. GL WWF and Doomsday come to mind, and I'll even throw in Surfrider right now. Thats about 3 or 4 years worth of stuff ups. DW have 4 rides without a reopening date at the same time right now. The story was the same last year with multiple ride closures with extended unplanned downtime. MW is by no means saintly but given where both parks are at I know which rides I'd feel better about going on

  7. I think they'd regain some public confidence from actually deciding to get rid of Wipeout, ToT and HWSW. The rides have had a good lifespan and put them out to pasture. I don't even think they need to build anything right away to replace them although they do need another attraction by late 2019/early 2020 after iRide. I think they could even get away with a basic wild mouse. Family friendly with safe attractions. It is their strength and Village's kind of weakness at the moment.

  8. Does it ever go down for extended maintenance, if so, contact Dreamworld immidiately.

  9. It’s great for dreamworld to have a new ride because it could be a major draw card for families. My only concern is Dreamworld won’t know how to market it. I mean from the video already released, they are highlighting the wrong things and just making iride seem like the surfers paradise 7d cinema. I really hope they market this right so it actually brings in crowds. On Instagram when they posted the video, they got 4 comments.... That is ridiculously low for the announcement of a new attraction, ABC kids wheel got more attention. I think they need to look at their marketing scheme.

  10. That’s what I’m wondering. How much money did they actually save by retaining a few bits of the original building? It looks like they might have even put in new roof slats? And if they did demolish so much of the building, why not re-build it entirely so that the capacity issue is no longer an issue?

  11. There is a few different options, but not really one that draw entire families like Lego Movie in my opinion. I definitely see your point though Push! On another point, I think a digital puppetry show would be a fantastic addition to Kids WB. (See Monsters Inc Laugh Floor at Disney). It would be really unique and cost efficient - You could run the show with just 3 people. In saying that though, we are not going to be seeing any potential large family ride until potentially 2020-2021 so there may be more options available then.

  12. @Slick I did some digging for you... HWSW originally closed 23/7 TOT2 originally closed 23/7, but was only operating for a couple of weeks before this, as it had just come out of maintenance then, which went for several months (Approximately closing around April) BuzzSaw closed April 2 (Originally scheduled to reopen April 16).

  13. I love Lego, but the Lego store is at Dreamworld, and at the moment so is the Lego Brickman exhibition. Movie World has the Lego Movie 4D at Roxy theatre. Makes me wonder if there's any other Warner Brothers movies they could use. I thought I'd seen one or two!

  14. I'f we was to see a new family ride, I reckon something like a Mack Suspended Dark Ride would go down a treat. Would never use Scooby IP though. Lego Movie would be there best option right now, considering of course they actually can get that IP considering Lego Land have it.

  16. No! No! No! again totally different situations. Rapids was 100% DW's fault. GL was 100% S&S's fault.

  17. Never claimed they where as bad as Dreamworld. My point was more that Movie World isn't the standard that we should be holding everyone else to, and reminding people that Village where nearly in the position themselves that Ardent are in now. Look back at the photos of the Green Lantern carriage teetering on the track, with a sole tie down strap and a brave firefighter potentially being all that stopped that carriage falling to the ground. The same reviews would have occurred, the same rides would have been shut down (TRRR may not have happened), DC Rivals probably would not have been built and both companies would be struggling along, with Ardent probably doing better out of the two.

  33. Wipeout broke down yesterday and is now closed until further notice. We are now down to just 5 thrill rides operating. Since the maintenance page update yesterday the start dates appear accurate, Buzzsaw closed since 23rd March, Hot Wheels since 24 Aug, and TOT since 28 June. Normally they try and edit the start dates like they did last year with Wipeout however these dates do appear correct. The Buzzsaw message has also been removed from the website and all rides under maintenance have had this pop-up added:
