  2. Thing is what are you going to get from Proslide? Another funnel/whirlpool thing or one of those crappy slides where the turns are a disk? WWW sort of feels like visiting a Proslide catalogue from the early 2010s. I think some generic body slides that aren't big headliners will actually do really good things in terms of balancing the park out. Everything in WWW feels like it's meant to be a headline, even Temple of Huey is on the high end of small water slides. I think having smaller slides that are just solid fun is a good move. The other thing is normally a body slide isn't that interesting but given there are 6 of them you kind of get that critical mass for it to be something that works as a drawcard, you know more than the sum of their parts. It's the same thing as how adding a new kiddie Ferris wheel isn't going to increase attendance, but adding 6 new kiddie rides all together will. I've said in other threads that WWW needs 'Literally any new slide'. This is surprisingly spot on, and while the reasons for buying what they have might turn out to be price or lead times rather than whats the best slide for the park, I actually think what they've gone with might work out better than something like a Proslide wave thing. It's fun and basic with the critical mass to make it a thing.

  3. Great article and a brilliant breakdown of what the new coaster will bring to the party. Seriously hyped now to ride this- I have not visited the GC since 2009 and this announcement and the Seaworld investment has me wanting to visit the parks with an excitement I have not felt in years. Excellent stuff and proud that OUR parks are getting talked about again on the World stage for positive reasons. Lets hope this level of investment will continue into the next decade and foreshadows a golden age for our amusement park industry!! Great coverage Parkz- looking forward to the construction updates as they come for both Dreamworld and Seaworld's new investments!! Its a great time to be a coaster enthusiast in Australia-what a time to be alive!!

  4. There is more to this than “needs a seatbelt”. Their legislation is stating that if the primary locking system fails the redundant locking system cannot allow the harness to open to any degree (say a few cms till the seat belt catches). So you need a fully redundant primary locking system, like say two hydraulic cylinders... given we have this on all our park rides I think it’s completely fair enough. Particularly when in these sorts of rides the harness is the only think keeping you in. If you look at Rivals say, it has 3 locking systems. Two hydraulic systems and the seatbelt.

  7. Polin slides are popular in Australia thanks to Swimplex Aquatics (Australian providers). They helped with the construction of a new water park in Sydney 1/2 years ago and recently an expansion of that park. The slides are a little cheaper but the build quality is still high. They use a lot of translucent sections on some parts. Swimplex is from Coffs Harbour, so it won't be a big journey for the crew anyway. Hopefully, soon we see the tower construction start.

  8. When I visited last time I was surprised at how slow the Train ride is nowadays. It is certainly much slower than ever before. Regarding selling of land etc, I think the old Thunderbolt site would be an ideal spot for proposed Hotel/convention Centre. I hope they keep DW within the existing envelope of the train, keeping all that Amphitheatre/Blue Lagoon space for future Theme Park development.

  9. Thanks to @Tim Dasco for the heads up on this RCT2 inspired park map from Outback Splash. Note the old waterslide playground structure has been renamed Splash Island. https://www.outbacksplash.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Park-Map-Coming-Soon.pdf

  11. Although the title of the article sounds bad it is really not bad. If they sell or lease or whatever some of that land the theme park won't be affected today. Yes, some future expansion could be. But if it also helps make some money then it should be done. I think a hotel with a conference centre would work perfectly. At least I can see that happening here long before the other mob can do it.

  12. The only thing I don't like about Polin is they have an over reliance on just doing helixes, and helixes become a bit boring once you get past about 540 degrees because you are stuck in a fixed turning position. If you look at Proslides stuff, its a lot more fluid and more directional changes that keep it exciting

  16. Can see it being a great addition. Recently went to Waterbom in Bali, and the few towers that had 4+ slides kept my attention for so long. Go on one, oh I wonder what the other ones are like, an hour later and you've finally experienced them all. It draws you in and keeps you coming back. I'm looking forward to them!

  18. @joz You can still get towers like this from ProSlide or White Water West. But don’t get me wrong this slide tower will overall help give WWW a boast over WNW with something new and impressive visually to look at. While it is a cheaper company but considering everything else that’s been built or is being built I don’t think we can complain. It adds some much needed capacity to the park.

  20. I dont see DW ever running out of land, and if they do they can put in multi level parking. The park has been renewing attractions for years and hasn't really had a problem with the number standing (Im not talking about ride closures for maintenance btw) They've never built out the island, or re-used the Blue Lagoon site either. If you wanted to expand WWW the little tip of the car park next to Hydrocoaster, the old thunderbolt site, and the areas under the footprint of Cyclone could all accomodate ample numbers of slides for the foorseeable future.

  21. Yeah I mean it's not a bad addition at all, and normies aren't going to be as clinical as you or I. It definitely looks fun and twisty enough to captivate visitors, and will look good in marketing materials and to motorists going past.

  22. Old mate John Longhurst was going to use the northern land beyond the creek for a shopping centre, I can't see why Ardent working with QIC to develop the completely bonkers amount of excess land will be any different. My personal issue will be if they try to build town-houses or do something that infringes on existing land that's actually used by Dreamworld past or present. I've thrown a line on the satellite map but even without the obvious white marker, when you look online the line is practically already there: If we're talking long term (next two decades) Corroboree will probably expand onto the island, White Water World will fill out the Thunderbolt site, Ocean Parade will be expanded - from there, the only land that's left is the Ampitheatre / Blue Lagoon site for major development into something entirely new. That's it. If you're a regional US/Japanese park, that's incredibly limiting if you want to have a comparable attraction line-up with two or more staple coasters and large family attractions. However, if you migrated all the wildlife into a third gate a little north, then you've got a huge amount of land to play with again. TLDR: North of the white line? Go nuts, but anything south of the white line wouldn't be ideal for long term growth without major restructuring.

  27. I'm still not feeling it. I would have preferred WWW to turn the 6 slides into 3 longer body slides. OR even better, 1 big daddy slide. Call me old but I remember the day when you had to pack a snack for the walk to the top of the slide.

  29. It would be possible to change the grade and curve but with the new coaster going here that won't be happening. You'd need to start the regrade all the way back at corroboree station just to ensure the train wouldn't stall on the curve. I know the right-hand curve after the shed is tight and yes it does go up a grade but that section is not as steep because you've already have gone through the steep section, from the back of the shed to the points at the front. Reason the train and make it into the shed where the grade is higher is due to the fact the train is unloaded. I also noted on a visit the train ran slow in several sections. This might be due to the imposter having weight issues, the load is not evenly distributed from the main driving wheels to the front wheels (pony wheels, yes it is a real name). Going back to the coaster, it means if you change the grade for the train you gotta change the height for the coaster.

  31. I haven’t been on it or watched any videos but if a pre ride video is long enough that you need to sit down or get comfortable then it’s too long. -here’s where you go -here’s where you put your crap -here’s how you sit in your seat Thats literally all the video should be.

  33. Very wishful thinking here... but as it’s ten years of Fright Nights this year I think it would be very sick if they had an maze based on all the mazes they have done from 2009-2019 and have snippets from each maze I’ll be very interested to see what their maze selection is this year

  34. Depends. If it's wooden seating rather than plastic, I think it needs some varnish very soon after it's installed. You're right though, not just yet.

  35. Maybe if it was inside the new helicopter shed, and it was at Dreamworld, it might be something some of the Dreamworld management (or former management) might consider to be a dark ride. It's not though of course.
