Old Theme Park Pics

I know we once had a topic for this, but I can't seem to find it.

Was just surfing the net and found a heap of older pics of Movieworld, not sure if they've been posted on here before, but see for yourself.

There is one of Marvin Rocket Ride, a few of Looney Tunes Village, couple of Main Street and the star parade etc.

This is the site where I found some of these pics: http://www.margarethouse.com.au/family/Holiday03/0626lsl.html

Some are from 2003, not sure if they are all from 2003.

Who would think water running down the drop like that and fencing around the ride could make an area look better (the area still looks good but just saying, little details do make a big difference)

I don't know if I'd have anything to do with it, but I do know that certified pool fencing is required by law.

I'm not sure if the same rules apply to wild west falls, but if that's the case, it might explain the current fencing surrounding the ride.

I'm thinking around 1983? I remember the layout, the bumper boats near Vikings Revenge , the Windseeker Coatser(?) and the waterslide off the castle - that was really tame compared to the ones at Grundys. But damn, they have reclaimed a lot of space!

Just stumbled upon this YouTube channel called Greggy Gilgen, which is a gold mine for videos of the parks in the 90’s and early 2000’s! Some highlights include a POV of the Gremlins Ride complete with the entire blooper reel pre-show, a full ride through of the original Batman ride and a Wild West Falls POV that includes parts of its pre-show as well as the original “expanding barrel” finale! Take a look:

Thanks for sharing! Looks like some good content. I've never seen anything from Young Einstein's so I'm particularly interested in checking that out.

Now we just need a pov of Lassiter's Lost Mine. Footage from that ride is pretty hard to come by.

Edit: Wow the old Wild Wild West preshow is on there!

Firstly @Noll_57, great find, credit where credit is deserved.

Was awesome to see some footage of the spark effects on WWF, there's only one other video that I've seen that shows them. Do we know why they were removed? I heard it was because of the fire, but I do believe it was outside of park hours, so it couldn't have been caused by the sparks.

Now, some of the credit for me doing this has to lay with @Ashley Jeffery, since he showed his old DW souvenir book, it inspired me to do the same. So, please be sure to thank him.

Coincidentally, I've got that same book, but I also have an older one. Not sure of the year it came out, but it was before Whitewater World, so I'm going to guess 2005.

The older one is on the left.

A few pics of the inside of the older book.

A close up of the writing if anyone is interested.

Obviously it was still TOT not TOT2.

In this image you can see a picture on the bottom left showing what Giant Drops theming once looked like, before it had deteriorated. Glad they're doing a reno on it.

This is a pic from the newer book, along with the next picture.

Whitewater World got a page at the very end of the book. The books remained pretty similar, apart from some changes on the front cover, the main picture changing, and a few other changes, it basically remained the same.

I was a kid at the time of getting both of these books, and up until they stopped printing park maps I also once collected them, I only have DW maps. This is the oldest map I have, TOT2 was only brand new at the time.

I once had a few other maps which were from the early 2000s, before Nick Central, unfortunely I lost them several years ago when moving house.

correct me if i’m wrong but im 90% sure it was during ride testing and the sparks set off a fire. But at the same time i wasn’t even alive when it happened, so i could be wrong.

Well I was alive, but way too young to remember.

I first went on WWF in the early 2000s (when the spark effects would have been working), but I have any recollection of them.

I thought the ride wasn't in operation when the fire started, but I could be wrong, and you could be right.

Amazingly, I think I know him through work and he lives in Adelaide

Wow, it's definitely a small world.

Fire was at around 6pm after the park had closed for the day. The roof inside is still "charcoal black" to this day.

I might be misremembering but I'm pretty sure the sparks were taken out right after the fire. Same time they changed the ending scene right before the last drop (the older scene with the exploding barrel was so much better).

Interesting! I'll have to pay attention to that next time I ride
